[Lorwyn] Cards to Buy and Trade For

This is an idea I had at TMD: every new set that comes out, ask people what they see as the gems of a new set and what they intend to buy.

As for ground rules, I would kindly ask that no one gripe about the likely cost of the rares or dwell on how awesome something is going to be in T2, Limited, etc. This is a Legacy forum after all.

Here's what I have on my "To Get" list.

I thought this was awesome until I discovered the activation cost after going through the spoiler for the third time.... Since removed.

Worth testing and certainly worth collecting.

For my Threshold decks.

Just to point out that Eyes of the "Wisent" now reads "Whenever an opponent plays a blue spell during your turn, you may put a 4/4 green Elemental creature token into play."


That makes it significantly less awesome.

yea same as Nightmare's and Bardo's lists, and Shriekmaw too for Survival. I'm sure something more will come to my attention later on that's worth getting, but from the spoiler posts and the cards Wizards have shown these seem like the big ones.

I can't see that card being good out of standard...hell, it's going for what Fountains went for...and that was a land for fuck's sake

I hate the way Standard prices are working these days. People have realized that they can get whatever they ask for for a card, as long as they can convince other people to ask for that as well. Such random cards from Lorwyn are expensive, not because they're good, but because everything else from Lorwyn is terrible.

Cryptic Command is more like $12 actually, check ebay. It's also used in Teachings and Mannequin decks, so sees a good amount of T2 play.

As far as LOR, I'd say the only real money cards now that the dust has settled are Thoughtseize which in tapering off and the new king of the singles Garruk, which is fucking house in Standard.

Yeah Garruk is awesome. I was one of the people who expected planeswalkers to suck, but after playing him in testing for states I picked up like 20 for $7, since he was amazing. I just sold them this weekend for 18 a piece : )
