Recently I've become more interested in attending Legacy tournaments(and playing Legacy in general) now that I have more time. Unfortunately, as far as I know there are no real tournaments in the Midwest and when I ask Magic players about Legacy they think I'm talking about Urza's Legacy.
So, I've been looking into traveling to tournaments farther out, but I'm unsure about what tournaments would be worth it compared to the distance. I was at GP:Columbus and had a great time. I can understand traveling 3 hours for a Legacy GP, but I wanted to ask the community what makes traveling to a tournament worth it when they are so far away and what tournaments are really worth going to?

It's more worth it for the people you meet and hang out with than any prize you'll really win. Legacy has a great community so it's a good time, whenever you can get out to an event!

Firstly, I'd reccomend that you read your posts before you make them. "Travelin ,g?" Seriously.
Secondly, I'd say that you should look into Dual Land Drafts - they have some pretty boss swag if you top 8 (even nineth is sometimes a cool prize, like beta bolts or shocklands), and sometimes have good door prizes. GP's are a 'duh' answer, and any PTQ or big tournament might have a Legacy side event. Mostly I'd just say don't be stingy with your gas money - 'cause you'll be driving to New York or Virginia pretty frequently (we get like 35-60 people at DLD's in Syracuse).

I also went to GP Columbus, actually a bunch of us came from Syracuse, it was a great time. I will traval to an Event if the Prizes look good compaired to the drive time. I am not going to Drive 3 hours to win store credit or 4 x Scrublands. 3 of us drove to Hadley MA for the 4 x underground tourny a few feeks back, it took just under 3 hrs and had a $10 entry fee. This was well worth it and I would do it again. I think the decition to traval to A big Legacy event really depends on how many people you can bring with you. The more people you can fit into a car, the cheaper it is for everyone. What part of the midwest are you from? How close are you to the Legacy capital of Syracuse? We always love to have new people attend our tournaments. There are 4 major legacy events in the area before the end of the year, all would be worth an 8 hour drive. Hope to see you around and good luck!

Its not so much the prize that I'm worried about as the atmosphere at the tournaments. Prizes are important for getting me to consider a tournament, but the people and the place I think are just as important (if not more).

I did not notice the title until it was too late. I've already asked a mod to change the title. I'll be more careful in the future.
I am also a newer legacy player, but I live in Syracuse and the tournment I went to was mad fun. Even though I am dumb and win the first three rounds then lose the other three.
Not to nitpick, but I wouldn't really consider a 15-minute drive "traveling." Eli's was a good time though.
