So here is the situation I encoutered at my local tournement last night:

Board situation - me with two Lions, and a Mother of Runes (summoning sickness).

He casts a Pestilence on his turn, and activating it once.

In response to his activation, I played Shining Shoal, removing a Silver Knight, choosing his Pestilence as the source.

So now the question is, do I get to choose which creatures I save? Can I choose to save only one creature and redirect the 1 dmg dealt to me?

Now if I had an Angel in my hand and removed that instead, I can redirect the next six damage. The Pestilence right now is only dealing 5 damage, (him, me, 1 to each creature, he has no creatures on the board), so...

a) do I have to prevent all 5?
b) say after my Shoal resolved, he activates the Pestilence again, do I still get to prevent 1 or 2 damage? (depending on the outcome of part a)

We compared the Shoal's wording to Circile of Protection wordings, and did not arrive at any conclusion. The player that played this particular MBC deck would like an explination as well. So if anyone is willing to walk us through this mess, that would be greatly appreciated.

2/1/2005 The redirection protects both you and your creatures from the source. If the source would deal more than X damage to multiple objects, you decide which damage is redirected until X is used up. For example, your opponent plays a spell that deals 1 damage to you and 1 damage to two of your creatures. If you play Shining Shoal with X = 2, you can have damage to you and one creature redirected to the target, or you could have damage to both creatures redirected.

Oh, thanks, Pinder, I think I know where I made the mistake. I never have to take into consideration of the Pestilence damage to him, because Shoal only prevents the damage to me and my creatures, so I'm never forced to prevent damage to him, because I can't, lol.

Thanks.
