It should be fun to play some standard once again with a new and fun set in Lorwyn. Hopefully, the place is a little bigger than the last one so we won't be so crowded. I'm looking to have a good time this weekend. Hope to see a lot of fellow magic players there.

Meh screw states. A local here in CT is getting a tourney going the same day for a case of lorwyn. The store is slightly on the small side so he had to cap the attendance off at 40.

They will go up in the middle of the week. BTW congrats to Jason Merwin (Janos_Wuryon) on his 10th place finish in the NY Champs. We had 140 people, I think, he played very well and even Jedi Mind-tricked a player out of a game!!

A friend of mine ended up winning the Indiana States going undefeated. Major props to him.

Actually, it is pretty funny how Merwin pulled out a win there. If players paid attention to the game then this kind of stuff shouldn't happen. It's quite funny when it does.

The rest of us from Syracuse didn't do that well, but hopefully I'll turn things around in The Mana Leak Open this weekend.

So is anyone going to tell us the story or are you all just going to talk about how great and funny it was?

Well, here is the story.

Jason Merwin was playing someone in game 3 of Champs and his opponent cast Summoner's Pact at the end of Jason's turn. Jason figured out that there was no way he was going to win, so he started talking to the guy that he has this match all wrapped up. As it turns out, his opponent forgets about the upkeep cost of the Pact and when he goes to draw his card Merwin says "You lose the game".

His opponent was pretty nervous during the match, so by making his opponent feel real confidant that he was going to win, he totally forgot about the upkeep cost of the Pact. Pretty good play that ended up working and putting Jason a win away from making Top 8.

The Pact was played during Jason's Opponents turn, main phase. Jason sat there and played out two or three diff. scenarios, out loud. He cast a discard spell or a removal spell, covering the pact that was in the yard. Then after thinking out loud some more Jason Passed the turn. His opponent drew his card anf the game was over. I was standing there watching the whole thing, it was nice. Jason Played very well and if it wern't for one bad match and a bit of land screw he woulf have made top 8. I 4-4 and had my usual problems, playing 18 land and drawing way to much almost every round, I played a Kithkin Deck and was 4-2 heading into the last two rounds.

I scrubbed out with elves. God that deck sucks. It would have been better just to light a fifty on fire... plus it would have been less painful

Elves doesn't suck you probably just played a bad list or got bad matchups. Anyway my secret tech just smashed everyone all day but It sucked when I had to pay 14$ for two cards and I had bought one of them earlier foil for 5$.

Yeah, Elves is what my friend used to win States. So I'd have to say it's some good.

Well i played against Dralnu, Rack splashing red for more mass, and a random RW deck with wog, clasms, and other shiat. I did beat the 2 aggro decks that i came across but besides that i didnt do to well. It costed me 50 because i bought a playset of BG painlands and BG lor duals.

I lost to faeries in the last round to not top 8, I was playing R/G/B goblins.

I thought losing to faeries was funny enough.

Hey all. The actually mind trick was in g2 of the match that I was up 1-0 in. It was beautiful and for a detailed description I started a thread on wheter or not it was a scum bag move to Mind trick for the win ( its under general discussion)

I hope that they will eventual get a legacy champs, I dont see any reason why they dont expand these style events to cover more formats and I really think these should provide a hook for larger events maybe a 2 round bye at a GP or an invite/bye at regionals/nationals.

Also since im on the subject let me see how many people would do the following.. youre on the draw and mull to 6. Youre playing G/B aggro control and open hand a goyf, Death, mark, sudden death, pendelhave, treetop village and a horizon canopy. Youre opponent is playing u/w/g goyf tempo aggro. Do you keep this hand?

I did and proceeded to draw 9 black removal spells in a row, lost to an opponent who missed his 3 land drop for 4 turns and got f'de out of t8. Let me know

I would have kept. After a mulligan, you're looking for decent hands, not good ones. The one you posted had two creatures (one a Goyf) and a cycler, and since you run Sudden Death I assume your deck was pretty rich in black sources, which means it was likely you'd at least be able to cast the Deathmark.

I went to the old location once, only in NYC do you have to take an elevator to get to a gaming store.

To those who know him, is Jason Merwin usually temperamental when he looses a match? I ask because he flipped out and stormed off when I won game 3 of our match at GP Montreal.(I was wondering if this was an isolated incident because everyone can have their bad day). Congrats on your 10th place finish. That pact story was hilarious.

hey revenge was montreal the block constructed Gp???? If it was let me make a feww facts known..

1. I hate Canada and it hates me, everything there has been a disaster and all three GP's there have sucked for me.

2. If it was the Block constructed GP I was extra pissed off because the deck I ran had a huge win percentage all through Playtesting ( which was almost 3 months worth I think) and was absolutley pooing on me that day.

3. To keep the rest of this short ill say this, I am succeptable to the occasional unsportsman like outburst after losses that I consider bad ( like waht happened all day to me in Montreal) and when My opponent(s) for the day have gotten on my last nerve. Typically I am very calm, usually intellectual about the losses and really even keeled but when things go bad I can be a huge Cack! A fact that I am usually regretful of later on.

So if this is the case then there is youre answer about my typical nature although I would like to point out that I think any true competitor who doesnt have the potential to rage against the losses he gets is no competitor at all.
