I'm taking over this round for Cait_Sith, who is caught up in schoolwork. Congratulations go to the previous round's winner, who, as far as I'm aware, is me. Go me! Decklists and results for previous 3CBs can be found at the wiki (http://thesource3cb.pbwiki.com/). Actually, I lied; the results can't be. I'd like to ask everyone who participated in the previous three tournaments to fill in their results for those pages. (Password is "3cbthesource"). Thanks.
Entries for this round close at 23:59 EST on Saturday, November 3rd. To enter, send your deck by email to thesource3cb at gmail. Preferred format for submissions:
(3CB #6 Entry title of email)
DoomGoat deck name
Mountain first card
Mountain Goat second card
Doomsday third card
DoomGoat is a most terrible deck (think Ivan the Terrible), the bane and emperor of every format it's legal in, and a terrifying outlaw menace to those where it's not. It crushes its enemies by summoning a Mountain Goat, following which the opponent despairs, and DoomGoat wins. notes, comments, flames, taunts, theological thermodynamic dissertations
My username is MonkeyUncleFucker. be sure to include your username if it's not the same as your email address
DO NOT PM ME! ENTRIES SENT BY PM WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
I won't even log in to the account until the deadline has passed, but if you're paranoid, I'll be posting the MWS security code for my own deck later today (if I don't spontaneously fall asleep, in which case tomorrow) and you can wait for that.
-- Rules of 3CB --
Your deck is composed of 3 cards which all start in your hand.
Your library contains 0 cards and you don’t have a sideboard nor own any cards outside of the game. (Wishes fetch nothing.)
Random effects always go in your opponent's favor. (This includes Chaos Orb and Falling Star.)
You can see your opponent's hand, so you make the best possible play. (If both players' taking an action would cause that player to lose the game, then neither player takes any action, and the game is a draw.)
You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card. (If cards are put in your library, you draw them as normal. Effects which require you to skip a draw work as normal.)
You play each opponent twice; once going first and once going second.
For each win, you score 3 points.
For each draw, you score 1 point.
For each loss, you score 0 points.
Three rules restrict the kind of deck you can send. They are:
1. You may not submit a deck that can win before the opponent's first main phase.
2. You may not submit a deck that can force an opponent to lose more than one card from his or her hand in a single turn.
3. You may not submit a deck that uses a card on the 3CB banned list.
Other than the aforementioned, everything is handled exactly like a real game of Magic.

I think you lose against 10 both times, because you burn for one when playing the Tongs, and get outraced by a turn. That's a really clever deck, props to Xero.

Na, the Swallower-deck won (I think he goes all-kill, an awesome deck although he shoulda used Mana Crypt for extra damage thanks to the random-rule). We LL against Sky Swallower. On the play, our best play is Workshop-Tongs-go. He does his thing, and we take pingage from the Vault, he takes one from the Tong, so we're left at 18, he's at 19. Illisius finished better than us too. We got third, I think.
Illisius, you lose at least one game to the Swallower-deck since Mana Vault is a source you control so you take damage from it, Energy Field or not. In fact, you lose both since Cove CiPTs.
Illissius
11-04-2007, 05:57 AM
Hmm. That's an interesting rules question, whether "random effects always go in your opponent's favor" goes by owners or controllers. I'd guess owners, but I really have no idea...
Eldariel
11-04-2007, 05:58 AM
Meh. Evidently it doesn't matter as the deck all-kills with Vaults already :D
EDIT: What's the Wiki-password?
EDIT#2: Ill, you still lose to Swallower, since Energy Field only protects you from damage from sources you don't control and you'll control the Vault, and you won't live to untap.
Illissius
11-04-2007, 06:03 AM
Make yourself an account.
EDIT: Woah, you're right. Fixed.
EDIT again: Wow, there is a wiki-wide password, as I just found out after logging out (and not remembering what the hell it was). Damn my memory is shitty. Going back to thread #1, it seems the password is "3cbthesource". Sorry everyone. Guess that explains why no one was editing their results in. ;)

Can we get a ruling about the "random" rule when it comes to the swallower deck? I think it's an interesting debate.

Even with the low turnout, it's nice how such a format evolves from round to round...Swallower/Vault is clever, keeping the strategy of the double threat while significantly improving the power level compared to, say, Idol/Wheel.

You control the card. Sucks to be you.
The random rule should include make it clear with "sources you control" of some type stuck in there.

It still has a single point of failure though, unlike Wheel (well, that one has Workshop, but it's a lot less vulnerable than Lotus). I'm not sure what a better comparison might be, maybe some Vineyard deck (whether Treetop or Rootwalla).

If you're using Firefox or IE, just go to the Outcomes page, click in the little boxes, and type a number (row #N is your own deck, the columns are your opponents'). If you're not, but your browser supports the functionality (e.g. Opera, like me), set it to identify as Firefox, and then same -- otherwise, open the page in Firefox. (I did post how to edit the raw wikicode in a previous thread, but it's a giant pain in the ass by comparison, so I wouldn't recommend it.)

So, next round? Should I or shall Cait_Sith? With everyone calculating their own results, these things are so low overhead that we could open entries for the next one as soon as they close for the last... even start one every 3-4 days, though I'm not sure if people would have the stamina for that. Weekly could be a happy medium, and some predictability and regularity might even help participation.
