Unfortunately there weren't enough people for a DCI tourney tonight, but we ended up with 20 players in an unsanctioned Legacy tourney. This meant there were a wider range of decks than you'd normally expect (so while I don't have a meta breakdown I'm not too sure it would be relevant to anyone). I went 3-1 in four rounds (they didn't cut to top 4) for third place. In my meager Legacy tournament experience, this was both my best placement and biggest tourney. Unfortunately I don't have much in terms of notes.

I ran the same 61-card 4c countersliver deck (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7309&page=4#post173958) with:

4 Perish (Still there from last week, decided not to use E.Plague)
4 Stifle (For no particular reason other than it can be really nice)
4 Leyline of the Void (Expected Ichorid, saw none)
3 Harmonic Sliver (Standard stuff)

Round 1 was against a guy playing an Extended GBw deck. It didn't seem to work for him. I saw fetches, Loxodon Warhammers, and some random critters. I only took damage from my own fetches. Didn't use Hibernation ability at all.

Sided: +4 Perish, +3 Harmonic, -7 something

Result: 1-0, 2-0

Round 2 against my friend playing modified CAMBA (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6524&highlight=camba) (some uncommons and rares were added). She ended up taking 5th with another 3-1 record. Dazing Hymn to Tourach was big in both games, as was Hibernation Sliver to "counter" targeted removal in the absence of Crystalline.

Sided: Nothing

Result: 2-0, 4-0

Round 3 against mono green mana accel, land destruction, big green beats. First game, he seemed a bit slow (no 3-mana LD) and the hive ran him over. Second game, I played out a bunch of untripped fetches forcing him to spend two LD spells per land. Cantrips helped keep my hand stocked with enough land, disruption kept his LD in check, and I gradually wore him down with a Muscle and Hibernation. Didn't use Hibernation ability at all.

Sided: +4 Perish, +3 Harmonic Sliver, -3 Crystalline (no targeted removal/destruction), -4 something

Result: 3-0, 8-0

Round 4 was against my old nemesis, the same damn Elf deck (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5500&page=17#post163708) (now with Vanquisher and Perfect, but no Eladamri). First game I stupidly kept a hand with only one Muscle, a Vial, and 4 land. You really can't afford to lose the creature race, and such a loss is all but guaranteed when you have 1 guy. At least I Swordsed a Symbiote and Dazed a Perfect, but a lone Muscle is soon outclassed.

Sided: +4 PERISH, -3 Duress (hardly anything besides Elves), -1 Vial

Game 2 was everything the deck should be when going aggro: Crystalline, a ton of Muscles, and a Winged. The game is soon over in spite of Symbiote+Wellwisher tricks. It's great when your opponent's deck allows you to overextend and your creatures cooperate.

Game 3 started ok with a Vial, 2 Crystallines, and a Muscle. He started going nuts with the Elf engine and I couldn't fly over him for damage, nor did I have Hibernation to match his combat trickery with Symbiote. I shuffled and cantripped like a madman trying to find Perish, but it never came. Sometimes, it's just not meant to be.

3-1, 9-2, finished 3rd of 20

Notes +4 Perish sided in 3 times and I never saw one, which was especially relevant in the last game of the tourney.

Daze was great (I was wrong to support cutting it), and Hibernation is often even better than Crystalline due to its combat tricks. Surprisingly, the deck never got manascrewed or colorscrewed. Perhaps Vials can go to 3 to bring the maindeck back to 60 cards, but turn 3 Vials are much less impressive.

Overall, really fun stuff. I only wish more "serious" Legacy people showed up so we could have had a sanctioned tourney. Maybe next time!

Thanks for the report, Kirby. Don't worry, I have trouble beating Elves! as well. You need Perish or E Plague to have a chance. Pithing Needles can help some, too.

Engineered Plague is very nearly a gg vs. Elves. You just have to watch out for the Viridian Zealots...however I am not sure if they have a chance to pop it on the plague once it enters play.

They don't. Last I checked, you had to use Elf Replica. :/
