The store site doesn't mention the event. I think this might be a little bit fake.
If it's not, I'd love to go.

It's on there, you just have to scroll down pretty far. Their website is full of bullshit.
Directly below the City Champs Logo, is the "Magic Fall Schedule". Below that is the event info.

This tournament would be pretty sweet to go to. Hey, is anyone from Syracuse willing to go down for this one? Let me know.

I would if it wasn't the 4th str8 weekend of tournaments and if I had more than a weeks notice.

Notice how there's no prize support for 3-8.

Actually this tournament was part of a trio of tournaments in the Chicago area and has already been advertised in another thread on this site. So, no, it's not fake, and they've already done a tournament like this in the past.
Notice how there's no prize support for 3-8.
There actually is, it's just usually in the form of store credit or some other additional prizes, as the OP and former thread state, based on attendance.

Hey I'm not the coordinator I'm just an enthusiast and thought I would post this up on the Source. But because I rarely see any tournies for the Chicago land area I seriously didn't think anyone would come if this does cause an inconvenience I am sorry, just makes it easier for me:tongue:

I posted an announcement about all the Pastimes events being held this fall back in September but I guess nobody noticed/cared even though I included "40 dual Tournament" in the title. Pastimes held a 40 dual tournament last year in December which got 50+ people.

Is anyone from Syracuse going to this??

It is an 11 hour drive from syracuse, and they have almost no information on the tournament, besides the prizes for 1 and 2, registration times, and additional prizes based on attendance. This is a bit of short notice for an 11 hour trip.

I have been to their website before. They hold large tournaments every weekend with similar prizes. I do not know the turnout, but they must have a base of players. I have actually looked for work in that area because of this.

It looks pretty legit, there are more prizes based on turnout, registration is early.., and it was posted months ago (http://mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6896), this is just a reposting of the tourny.
Either way, if anyone is not burned out, I'm in.

What is all this 'Short notice, tournament isn't legit, no information' shit? Like several people in this thread have pointed out, this tournament was posted two months ago. But then again, it wasn't 'stickied' all over the fucking site.
That'd be like me getting online two or three days before a large East Coast tournament and saying, "Too bad it was posted on such short notice."

Sorry we didn't cross-reference a tourney announcement that went up months ago with this one... I'll be sure to use the Search function for all future tournament announcements before I post something again.
On a side note, anybody know what happened with this?

Hey guys the tournament went o.k. I guess me and a lot of the other people were pretty dissapointed. The turn out was 29 with 5 rounds then cutting to the top 8, which meant no additional prizes. It was really crowded because they had 2 massive WoW tournaments and a prerelease hero clicks event all going at the same time. In addition they claimed that their site said it cost 30 bucks to enter not 25 so that kinda sucked. So here is my report.
Lands
4 Polluted Delta
3 Underground Sea
1 Tropical Island
4 Cephalid Coliseum
Creatures
4 Golgari Cave Trolls
4 Stinkweed Imp
3 Golgari Thug
4 Putrid Imp
4 Ichorid
4 Narcomoeba
1 Flame-kin Zealot
1 Cephalid Sage
Artifacts
4 Lion's Eye Diamonds
Other Spells
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Breakthrough
3 Dread Return
4 Deep Analysis
4 Bridge From Below
Side Board
4 Leyline of the Void
4 Chain of Vapor
4 Reverent Silence
2 Tropical Islands
1 Wonder
If any of you actually keep up with Ichorid you will notice that I did not run the rainbow lands. It was a mistake I think Reverent silence really never came up or I did not have the forest  . I did this side board cuz a team member talked me into it saying that against double lotv I needed this. I will say Chain of Vapor is my MVP though.
So Here is the break down of my match ups for those who wish to continue to read.
Round 1 Goblins g splash
Game 1
I mulliganed to oblivion doing nothing.
Game 2
I sided in the lotv but kept a decent hand of 7 with no lotv ran into double tormonds(which i had a chance to call with therapy but i messed up that one).
Round 2 Grwb 43 land with terravore
Game 1 much like goblins game one.
Game 2 reverent silence and chains came in. He started with Lotv and duresed my Reverent silence. He ate up my hand with duress and thoughtseize (he had 4 of each)
so at this point i was kinda dissapointed I had not chance to top 8 but that was not that big of a deal, in addition this was my first big competitive tournament. I was thinking of driving by my buddy who drove me(piloting Ugw Thresh was 2-0) was still doing good so I kept with it.
Round 3 Dead guy ale yeah more LOTV
Game 1
He wins die roll duress bye bye break through. I get going to slow he kills me with shade.
Game 2
Board in lotv hate but kept zealot in for some reason.
won turn 2
Game 3
saw lotv he mulled to 5 for it. I bounced it won turn 5.
Round 4 Grim iggy pop
Ya so he did have LOTV side but both games i killed him turn 3
Round 5 UGr Thresh
I won die roll turn 2 win just went right through counter magic
game 2
he slowed me down with counter magic and got double goyf and won
game 3
I slowed rolled it to dredge off of break through won with Ichorid and a couple of zombies.
So pretty good going 3-2 but I lost both matches due to lack of experience with the deck and not knowing what to do in all situations but as you can see I learned fairly fast.
Well even with the jerking off with the coordinator I would still go again basically because most of the people were pretty cool (except for the Thresh guy who said i sucked at the deck and should drop dead and die) and due to the fact that my local tournaments always have the same 6 decks.
Also non of us toped 8 so we took off early because of hunger. I do not have the lists or the final standings but the top 8 decks were
2 goblin decks almost same list
1 43 land
2 loam almost like 43 land decks
1 UG thresh
2 UGr thresh
Hopefully the top 8 will be posted but based on the enthusiasm of the coordinator I would not hold my breath.
Well guys go easy on me this is my first report, and now im running late for class so see ya.

Good job picking up the playskill mid tourny =0
But I have to say this is the most complicated deck Ive ever played. Im still learning "better plays" with it all the time. Fighting hate becomes a different monster all together. Sideboarding wrong is very easy. Im hoping to write an extensive primer on the deck soon along with strategy and matchup analysis.
I will say this as an end note. Cabal Therapy is very significant in your games. Its the mvp of the deck and your skills with it can become dependant on your games outcomes all the time.

No I didn't. Why would you think that? I didn't show you a leyline. I don't even own leylines anymore.
You killed me turn 4 and turn 3. Both games I drew a billion lands. Had I not had the absolute balls game 1 and mulled to 5 to hit even saltier balls game 2 en route to blowing myself up with a poor mystical tutor decision, you would have been blown out. I say this because you weren't mulling properly at all and your decisions regarding cabal therapy were the worst I've seen since watching DFT play ichorid. I guess all that matters is the W though.
Furthermore, Mono White Armageddon Stax made top8 piloted by Wayne Tam(spelling?).

oh opps guess I should have taken better notes must of gotten this match mixed up with the one against 43 lands??? maybe....
See my things against you I didn't realize you were playing iggy till after the tourny thought you were playing a weird TES, never played against iggy or actually have seen it played before. A friend of mine told me you had to have been playing iggy cuz of the grime tutor cuz TES would never in the right mind play grim..or somthing like that.
Like i said in the bigging first time playing this game in a very competitive tourny, I was really only ready for the thresh and landstill match up.
Also non of us toped 8 so we took off early because of hunger. I do not have the lists or the final standings but the top 8 decks were
2 goblin decks almost same list
1 43 land
2 loam almost like 43 land decks
1 UG thresh
2 UGr threshHow would you claim to have an idea of what was in the top 8 without actually being there? This is totally inaccurate. I don't believe there were any 43land or Loam decks in the top 8, or they most likely would have beaten any of the 3 UGR Threshold decks that advanced to top 4.
I played BHWW 4C Landstill, went undefeated in the swiss yet again, and made top 3/4. I beat Wayne in a close one in the quarterfinals (made an error in game 1 which most likely cost me the game, then handled business games 2 and 3), then lost to one of the 3 UGR Threshold decks (piloted by Jeff Rabovsky) in the top 8 in the semifinals, which I would consider a much better match for my deck. I drew absolutely no relevant colored mana sources two games in a row, and Threshold did what it does when you can't play any spells. Jeff then went on to split with AJ in the finals.
Perhaps someone who was actually present and who did well, or who knows what the hell they are talking about, can help me flesh out this Top 8:
5th-8th: WG Stax - Wayne Tam
5th-8th: ?
5th-8th: ?
5th-8th: ?
3rd-4th: UGR Threshold
3rd-4th: BHWW 4C Landstill - Jaco
1st-2nd: UGR Threshold - Jeff Rabovsky
1st-2nd: UGR Threshold - AJ Sacher
It seemed like the 3 Threshold decks in the top 8 were all near identical copies of each other (not including sideboards), with 4 Nimble Mongoose, 4 Tarmogoyf, and 3-4 Quirion Dryads main, plus Opt in the Portent slot.
As usual, attendance sucked (25-28 people), so the prize support only paid out to top 2.
I played BHWW 4C Landstill, went undefeated in the swiss...in the top 8 in the semifinals, which I would consider a much better match for my deck....I drew absolutely no relevant colored mana sources two games in a row. That sucks. So goes it with that deck. I am guessing that this remaining fact will keep it out of top contention at Worlds.
That sucks. So goes it with that deck. I am guessing that this remaining fact will keep it out of top contention at Worlds. That's fine with me, as I would rather have it not catch on in popularity, because it's much more fun to destroy everybody else than play mirror matches all day long. It's just dissapointing that it would happen against Threshold, which I usually overwhelmingly dominate with Landstill. I have lost like 2 matches against Threshold with Landstill, both due to mulliganing into no or 1 colored lands, and won like 30 other matches against it. I would play against Threshold every round if I could.
Ironically, the exact same thing happened to me last tournament I played in as well. Undefeated in 5 rounds of swiss, then mulligan into oblivion in the top 8.
