I will be holding a 15-proxy Vintage tournament on Sunday, December 2 at Washington University in St. Louis with a GUARANTEED Unlimited Mox Jet for first place regardless of attendance. Prizes for 2nd-4th or 2nd-8th will be based on attendance, and will be 100%+ payout.

Example prizes (assuming 16 people):
1st - Unlimited Mox Jet
2nd - Choice of FBB Plateau, Tarmogoyf, or DCI Foil Meddling Mage + choice of BC altered art or non-power proxy
3rd and 4th - Choice of Foil Yawgmoth's Bargain, FBB Demonic Tutor, or FBB Sol Ring + choice of BC altered art or non-power proxy

Where:
The BASEMENT of the Mallinckrodt Student Center
6465 Forsyth Blvd
St. Louis, MO 63105

When: Sunday December 2, tournament STARTING at 12:00 PM

Entry Fee: $20

I am hosting this tournament because I am moving to Boston soon and I want to thank the Vintage players from St. Louis and the surrounding area. As such, I don't care that much about making money, so the prize payout will be generous. I hope a lot of people can make it.

If there is enough interest (~8 people or more), we will also be having a Legacy side event starting after the conclusion of the Swiss rounds in the Vintage event. Entry fee will be $10, and the prizes for this event will most likely be dual lands for the Top 4.

For questions or directions to the event, call Blaine: 314-583-5622

Isn't that a wide gap in value of prize support between first and second - assuming that many people show up?

How is this a problem? If you make it to the finals either split or continue playing well/getting good matchups.

...how can you ideally split a Mox Jet as a first place prize? I mean - that's what was supposed to draw people into playing in this tournament anyways...

Mox Jet Unlimited (EX-EX+? Condition was never specified) = $375-$425
A FBB Plateau for second? ($50 topps)
A Tarmogoyf for second? ($30-35 topps)

All's I'm saying is if you're going to put a prize like that up for first - it might seem more reasonable to have a little more value for 2nd-8th considering what you're putting up for first. You want to actually make your money back.

The first place prize is essentially set in stone. The prizes for 2-4 or 2-8 will continue to get better the higher the attendance. For instance, if I get 25 people, second prize will probably be bumped to something like 4x Force of Will. But you're right that the Mox is what gets people in the door.

And since you asked, you can split a Mox if the person actually taking the Mox home makes up the difference in cash to the person taking the second place prize. Happens all the time.

Just a reminder that this tournament is coming up this weekend. I hope everyone in the area considers going.
