Last night (Friday the 23rd of November) I played in a 23 man tournament (no top 8 play offs)... I went completely undefeated getting first and 40 dollars store credit... this is what I played.

URW landstill (Belgareth's landstill).

lands//26
1 island
1 plains
4 flooded strand
4 tundra
4 volcanic island
4 mishra's factory
4 wasteland
4 faerie conclave

spells//34
4 force of will
4 counterspell
2 teferi's response
2 stifle
4 standstill
3 fact or fitcion
4 swords to plowshares
3 fire/ice
3 lightning bolt
2 crucible of worlds
3 nevinyrral's disk

sideboard//
2 pithing needle
4 meddling mage
2 engineered explosives
4 tormod's crypt
2 BEB

Round 1: Against Mono-blue aggro control (Merfolk based off of goblins with ports, wastes, and vials... plus countermagic)

Game one: He starts off strong with a vial and some ports... I teferi response his port on my upkeep then next turn cast a disk (5th turn to get around daze)... I sweep his board at his EOT, then on my turn I cast my standstill and win through long drawn out beats + burn.

I board, -2 stifle, +2 engineered explisives

Game 2: He starts off the game with another vial, then another one drop, then a pithing needle naming Disk... My turn, I play an engineered explosives for one and pop his entire board... I then played disk 2 turns later to get rid of the rest of hid dudes. I restocked with a FoF the same turn and began to beat face with my mishra's.

Record: 1-0-0

Round 2: Against BHWC landstill (Carbon copy of Nick Trudeau's list, I played his friend Trevor)

Game 1: He thinks I am playing a rogue control deck and proceeds to play his standstill... I raped him underneath the standstill with superior numbers and 'removal' (wastelands)... he broke his standstill to let me burn him out for the win.

Board in nothing, pretty confident in this match

Game 2: I never play a standstill this entire match, and neither does he. I play FoF at his EOT, he plays FoF in response I FoW it, he FoWs removing a spell snare, I counterspell his FoF... I resolve seeing my second crucible (first one in hand) and pleanty of wastelands... I wastelock him with the second crucible soon after.

Record: 2-0-0

Round 3: Against BGR aggro control (Br sui with green for Tarmogoyf)..

Game 1: I fetch out white and show swords for his confidant, he plays a negator and I play my other fetch... he swings I block with my factory, Teferi response his removal spell and fetch a volcanic and bolt the negator, sweeping his entire board... I then proceeded to beat him down with my conclaves and mishras.

Board nothing again.

Game 2: He plays a couple duresses and thoughtseizes, but I had a land heavy hand so he didn't get much... I play a disk and reset his board, then I draw a standstill soon after murdering his dudes... I then continue to beat face with my mishras.

Record: 3-0-0

Round 4: (final round) I am playing against the only other undefeated, who is playing URW fish..

Game 1: He gets a strong start with an Aether vial for some uncounterable dorks being meddling mage, jotan grunt, and serra avenger... the mage names swords and I have 3 in hand. I fire his mage and swords the avenger.. I double blcok the grunt and he stops playing more dudes... I play a disk and wait to pop it for his lonely vial.. I attack a couple time before he plays another critter.. I then blow disk and cast a standstill. I won shortly after.

Sideboard: -2 stifle +2 BeB (for lightning angel, and burn).

Game 2: I mull down to five with two nonland hands (WTF!?)... but a quick wasteland quickly dispatches of his only white producent and I eventually get enough lands to FoF and recover for the quick win.

Slops n' props:

Props: Game Empire for throwing yet another well run tournament... Micheal for getting my volcanics back in time fr the tournament... My sideboard for sitting there and doing almost nothing.

The tournament was kinda small, we had some scrubs, some regulars, and some every oce and againers... The field was mostly aggro-control with a little bit of control and combo (one goblin deck, but I thin this is implied for any tournament)...

Nice work, thanks for the decklists. Is TR better than stifle? Is it worth running 3 or more of them?

You are missing the bolts in your list. Good report and the list sounds really strong. Why have you excluded Decree. Seems like as a 2-of could be a string win con. Good build!

I'm not sure why you are slashing Red, since you are only using 3 Fire/Ice. Is it really just to taking advantage of EE but I really can't imagine that is the case either since you are only using 2 and they start in the board.

He forgot the bolts. But I only see room for 3 slots. Did you run 3 or 4?

Thanks for the replies you guys!

I edited the original post to include the 3 bolts I forgot to mention... sorry for the confusion.

Red is in the deck mainly for more versatile cards in the main deck... I used to run pyroclasm in the board when goblins were still a threat here as well.

Teferi's response is only better in certain metas, whereas mine has pleanty of control elements and it is good, but I can see where stifle can be better in other metas (like combo/aggro based... storm and ringleader mostly)...

I still run the 2/2 split for they are both good as 2 ofs anyways.

Decree is decent, I played around with it for a while, but dismissed it because it almost always seemed like a win more card... if you have the mana to pull off a large enough Decree then you are already winning.

Engineered explosives are strictly for aggro-control and the occasional ETW swarm... they can come in for Response (against combo) or for bolt (against thresh they are useless for the most part)... occasionally I will board out 1 disk because it can be too slow for combo.

Crypt is an obvious must for ichorid and of coarse Loam... mage is the catch all sideboard card, working against loam and combo... BEB is just a filler for the most part, you can have EE 3 & needle 3 in their place... They were there because I failed to find those 3rds I was looking for.

Thank you for the comments you guys!

thefreakaccident, if you are going to report the tourney on the site, make sure to get your info straight.

1. The tourney had a very low turnout with 15 people in which three of the top placing regulars did not attend Nick, Ben, Rodrigo. Your $40 alleged prize was in reality a $20 win as the prize payouts were (confirmed by the judge)
1st- $20 credit
2nd- $15 credit
3rd- $10 credit
4th- $10 credit

2. Your decklists are incorrect:
a. I know that your 4th round opponent was playing at least 1 Brion Stoutarm and 2 umezawa's jittes (as can be confirmed by multiple other players). After the tourney I asked to see his deck to show it to another person playing R/W/U. We said we liked everything in the deck but the jittes and we went fishing through the dollar bin to find Kira Great Glass Spinner to replace them.

b. You DREW with BHWC landstill (as confirmed by DCI reporter) to go watch the merfolk deck because that winner determined your guys breakers. Your final record was 3-0-1 as was the other landstill deck and YOU ONLY GOT 1st because you had better breakers.

c. I played against the merfolk deck and it ran 15 merfolk and grunts MAIN (as confirmed by the guy who built/played merfolk himself):
MAINBOARD
3x SEASINGER
4x Rejery
4x Lord of atlantis
4x Silvergill adept
3x JOTUN GRUNT
2x Umezawa's Jitte

d. As far as a couple of us can remember, there were no BGR decks. The only decks running tarmogoyf were BGW Life combo+doran+goyf, B/G/w pox, and B/G TYPE 2 TARMORACK with a few legacy cards thrown in. Unless there was someone else playing thoughtseize AND treetop village IN THE SAME DECK, you faced type 2 tarmorack with no red and smother+terror as removal.

3. Your slops are supposed to be about opponent topdecks, wrong card choices, and player errors / lack of knowledge. NOT calling someone by their full name a bad word because your only interaction with him that night was him calling the judge to give you a warning for COACHING his opponent who was playing COMBO and recently got a warning for cheating. If the tourney was above REL-NORMAL, you would have just handed his opponent a second game loss in that match. This was not arbitrary as you have done it MANY times in the past and no one else officially calls you on it and you have been repeatedly warned not to comment on games.

4. If you are going to brag about a deck, you must not only show its wins, but also weeks where you didn't do very well in order to show weaknesses or random luck factors that affect the deck (heavy price of progress boards, mainboard back to basics, tons of golbins/elves/faeries...). No deck is perfect, let alone a Landstill that has been repeatedly proven to be inferior to 4-color overall in recent years.

The player that I played my 3rd round against was playing a BGR aggro-control deck, I saw him playing a BGR deck earlier that day and I saw many similar cards in the deck he was playing against me... I saw the Jotan grunts in Mikes' sideboard, if he changed it later in the night that is up to him to cheat... none of the cards that you listed from Thomas' list I saw, I posted what I saw from his list, although The rest of the decks were quite accurate as I asked to see them immediately after the game... I was unaware that I only got $20, as I had to leave before prizes were given.

We played it out afterwards, I was unaware that I did draw, seeing as I thought we decided to both play it out (and I did win 2-0)... you can ask Trevor if you believe that I did not beat him.

I assumed that Matt and that group were playing as I had seen them there, I guess they did not play and therefore you would be correct in saying that there were only 15 people playing (disappointing to here that the tourney is getting that small).

I have never said, I think I am awesome, or... This deck is awesome, ever... I have posted my wins yes, I have posted my losses too, If you have followed the landstill thread you would see me posting my concerns/asking questions...

The only direction a thread like this typically turns is DOWNWARD. So, we have a couple of options here: 1) continue down the road of ad hominen attack/flaming/responses-to-flames-that-are-even-more-flames and let the Mods dole out warning and thread lockage; or 2) be civil, keep your shit cool and keep the discussion mature. - Bardo

I only see the swords for white cards. Did you ever feel like you might be able to drop one or two of them for some more basics? I'd be awful afraid of B2B or Magus of the Moon.

Also, ahve you tried academy ruins? It seems like that might be fun for some Disk shenanigans.

Looks like your uwr landstill list robert(thefreakaccident) can have a good matchup against just about anything in the metagame. I am actually impressed with your new list it definitely looks more streamlined then your previous landstill list. Not only that though but it looks almost like the UR landstill list that placed 21st at the legacy champs. Anyhow keep up the great work teammate! :)
