Testing the week of, i decide i'm going to be running Erayo affinity. In all testing flipped erayo = game win. It's just amazing when affinity can vomit it's hand turn 1. I wake up nice and early, pack my bag, and jump in the car.

MapQuest says 2 hour drive, but my mom convinces me to leave at 7. I head out 7:15, thinking this is WAY too early. Grab a RockStar from the gass station when filling up, and hit the road. I get lost right from the get go. I love not knowing my own freeways, and find the way to get back on track is blocked and their is a freeway detour.

I finally make it to the 5, and start blazing down the freeway, eating pavement. 109 miles later, i'm there, at the amazing hour of 9:00am. YES I'm there 1:30 early. I sit in my car, and play Contra on my phone.

I walk into the store at 10:00 and ask for the Erayo's i called about Friday. They are amazingly missing. Thus i sign up at 10:30, and jump back in the car to drive 20 min's to grab 3 from another store.

Making it back, i meet up with Team FUNK, and slip the Erayo's into the covers. However i can't find one BEFORE the tourny, and mave to run a 4th Mox over the last Erayo slot.

Here is what i ran:

// Deck file for Magic Workstation (http://www.magicworkstation.com)

// Lands
4 [MR] Seat of the Synod
4 [MR] Vault of Whispers
4 [DS] Blinkmoth Nexus
4 [DS] Darksteel Citadel

// Creatures
4 [MR] Frogmite
4 [MR] Disciple of the Vault
4 [10E] Ornithopter
4 [DS] Arcbound Ravager
3 [SOK] Erayo, Soratami Ascendant
3 [MR] Somber Hoverguard

// Spells
4 [MR] Thoughtcast
4 [FD] Cranial Plating
4 [DS] AEther Vial
2 [10E] Pithing Needle
4 [MR] Chrome Mox
4 [TSB] Tormod's Crypt

// Sideboard
SB: 1 [MR] Somber Hoverguard
SB: 2 [10E] Pithing Needle
SB: 4 [MR] Chalice of the Void
SB: 4 [FUT] Yixlid Jailer
SB: 4 [DS] Echoing Truth

Round 1: Ben playing SI (he top 8's)
Game 1: I mull to 5 and keep. He goes first turn grant. I play some spells and watch as he combo's 3rd turn with little i can do, and him at 7 life.

In: 4 Chalice Out: 4 Crypt

Game 2: I mull to 5 and start off with disciple, and pass, he grants and passes back. I play ravager, and a grip of artifacts. He combos out using belcher, and i never get a chance to see his life drop to sub disciple/ravager range.

0-2, 0-2

Round 2: Mike playing FlingNought
Game 1: I have erayo and enough to play 3 spells to almost flip. I lay a land and pass, he goes land Mongouse. I draw a Mox, and flip and Erayo. Ravager joins the team and thats game.

(i though he way playing thresh)
No boarding

Game 2: I lay some stuff, he get a nought into play. I swing in for 11 putting him at 7. He swings with the nought. If i block with frog it takes 2 turns to win, so i say ok. He flings it FTW.

Out: -4 Crypt, In: 4 Chalice

Game 3: I beat down with flyers, as he proceads to draw shit.

1-1, 2-3

Round 3: Matt playing ATS
Game 1: Affinity beats face, and does it's job.

Out: 4 Frogmite, 2 Vial, In: 4 Jailer, 2 Needle

Game 2: He stalls with tradewind rider. I needle it, he grips, and i concead with 10 minuets left in the round. (Stupid mistake, but i thought i could finish him next game, I know i should have waited longer, as he couldn't draw a win to save his life.)

No board

Game 3: He gets an active Survival. I drop jailer, and he messes up getting squee, and anger. I tap the jailer, and he go opps. he grabs Kavu, kills the jailer, and beats for the win, while i draw lands, and vials.

1-2, 3-5

Round 4: John playing IGGy Pop
Game 1: I mull to 5, He combo's turn 2.

Out: -2Needle, -2 Vial In: +4 Chalice

Game 2: I mull to 4, I make the hand playable, First turn of crypt, land, diciple go. Draw a land and drop the ravager. He chains the crypt, i kill his grave, and he combo's turn 4 at 2 life after i sac all to ravager.

1-3, 3-7

Round 5: Wilber (Team FUNK) playing Glimpse.dec
Before the round he tells me has hasn't combed all day...

Game 1: He goes petal go. I drop vial, he says fuck it i'll try and wins turn 2.

Out: -4 Crypt In: +4 Chalice

Game 2: I mull to 6, and drop a challice and disiple. He oxidizes the chalice. I play ravager, and beat. He combo's trun 2. (would have turn 1 w/o chalice) I win the amazing Jesters Cap oversized card. Yeah, dosn't help the sting of the loss.

1-4, 3-9

Round 6: Gregg playing Bad.dec
Game 1: He tells me this is the most annoying deck to play against, that he will prevent all my damage. FINALLY my decks wants to work, and i win turn 3 with a plated Hoverguard.

Board nothing

Game 2: I win turn 4 with a double plated thopper.

He says he left in CoP Black and Blue in, and i laugh saying all my damage is colorless. He shows me his 7 mana combo of Island Sancuatuary, and a 2UU that stops all flying and islandwalk creatures...

2-4, 5-9

I stick around, and pick up cards for the deck i SHOULD have been playing, WURbliterate. w/e. I'll be back. I drive home in and hour and a half, laughing at traffic and slapping myself for never flipping the decks name sake.

The 2 games i won (last match wasn't really a deck, more of a pile) i flipped erayo one of them, and vomitted my hand the other. Affinity crapped on me all the other games!

Props:
Robert for Tops
Ben for buying my Bayou
WURbliterate for smashing everyone in the test games after the match.
Game Empire, for an amazing tourny
The players for a great turnout, and good smart nice players.

Slops:
Drawing like fucking shit, and mulling like 50% of my games.
Getting paired Combo round 1
Not seeing Thresh or goblins ALL day!
Lack of cards Game Empire had for WURbliterate.
Lack of trades people had.
Having to run 3 Erayo.

I'm glad you decided to play Affinity as I'm one of the biggest advocates of the deck here on The Source. Its too bad that you didn't do a little better with the Erayo version of the deck. The one problem when I was testing with Erayo was that you have to weaken the build of the deck in order to maximize the number of times playing 4 spells in one turn. That is the one weakness that I found with the deck.

I think the list is pretty solid. Here are the following changes I would make in order to maximize the effectiveness of the deck.

I would try the following changes. Tell me what you think.

Summary

-4 Chrome Mox
-4 Aether Vial
-3 Somber Hoverguard
-1 Cranial Plating
+4 Arcbound Worker
+4 Paradise Mantle
+3 Scale of Chiss Goria
+1 Erayo

I wouldn't play hoverguard they die easy and can be awfully slow.

I'm playing 3 repeal in my erayo build right now it allows you to flip erayo nice and quick (play ornithopter, repeal ornithopter, draw, play ornithopter)

I'm playing lotus petal instead of chrome mox right now, it seems to work good allows me to get any color I need.

Never take out vial it allows you to play shit for free.

I know I said hoverguard was slow, but enforcer has the possiblility of costing nothing.

// Lands
4 Seat of the Synod
4 Vault of Whispers
3 Blinkmoth Nexus
3 Darksteel Citadel
2 Glimmervoid

// Creatures
4 Frogmite
4 Disciple of the Vault
3 Ornithopter
3 Myr Enforcer
4 Arcbound Ravager
3 Erayo, Soratami Ascendant
4 Arcbound Worker

// Spells
4 Thoughtcast
4 Cranial Plating
4 AEther Vial
3 Repeal
4 Lotus Petal

Online yesterday I beat Goblins and Landstill.

The trouble is, isn't this deck underpowered in the current metagame? You basically scoop to Storm, Solidarity, Breakfast... basically any form of combo. I don't buy that Erayo shores up those matchups.

I don't buy that this thread should be necroed.
