I was playing a game on MWS. My opponent is playing 43 Lands, I play a Magus of the Moon and he tries to barbarian ring it in response. I say that he can't do that because MotM's ability is static and thus doesn't go on the stack once it is in play; and the creature isn't in play while it is on the stack, so it cant be targeted there either. Obviously I wouldn't be here if he agreed w/ me, so who is right?

Well he can't sac a mountain to kill you Magus, so I guess you're right.

So, while MotM is on the stack, he activates a Barbarian Ring and targets the non-existent MotM? I wish I could make plays like that. MotM's text isn't a triggered ability, so he either shoots you for 2 or he loses the Ring. He can't target the critter, because it's not in play, so he has no other legal target except you.
