I woudnt touch that auction. Look at the sellers feedback. mosty a recent and on small deals. He is also only listing power and a few other things. The cards he lists don't add up to all that much and you might be getting a bunch of junk other than them. I mean cmon he is listing platinum angel. I guess that means his other old cards suck.
Either way a set of unlimited power is only like 3000 max with beta power being 4500 max. Add in 125 duals/forces and thats 2500 max. Thats only 10,000 at very high values. If you were to pick it up slowly and get good deals on everything unlimited power can be gotten for 2500 and beta power for 4000.
There is also the chance that you will be getting fake cards.

Couldn't he make more if he sold the power individually, the duals as playsets, then the other choice rares as playsets, then bulk the rest?
EDIT: ^^ didn't know that about value for power. Thought is was much higher.

I recently got back into magic and have collected a great number of the better newer cards.

Huh? In general, I smell scam. 10,000 $ are perfectly worth the time of building up to 134 feedback via small deals.
he has no problem of letting people pick it up and inspect it before they pay?

14 PLATINUM ANGELS and 15 DEATH WISHES?!?!?! Sign me up.
Yeah, he is letting people pick the cards up so I doubt the power and stuff is fake. Some of it could still be junk rares though, but I doubt it.
That Lotus looks odd. The colors are off. Could be too much gamma on the picture, but, eh...

Weren't death wishes played in an extended deck?

No, he's just assuming no one from his area bids on it.

He says he's from San Diego and then that he's from Sacremento. Obv.

It's not uncommon for people to forget to update their information from Ebay when they change addresses, it happened all the time when I sold online.
As far as I'm concerned, this is probably legit. If the guy says it's fine to come by with cash on hand and pick it up in person, I don't see how he could possibly attempt to scam someone. Even if it's fraud, that's federal lines he'd be crossing there with that much cash, so he'd have Paypal/Ebay, State and Federal agents on him in a heartbeat.
The only thing I could think of is it's possibly a hot collection. That kind of stuff is pretty rare, and it wouldn't shock me if this was lifted some time ago and sold when the heat was off. That's the only thing I'd personally worry about.

So it ended at about 15k. I looked through some of his questions, and honestly the guy is a dick. He wasn't willing to list off any of the money cards from Legends or Arabian, even though he stated he only got a couple boxes worth of cards from either set (which would total maybe 1000-1500 cards at most). At best he said he had 2 Library, a Workshop, and "some" Djinns.
You'd think for roughly 15 grand he'd be willing to put a bit more effort into his auction, he would have gotten much better responses and bids had he done the work for it.

Theres talk about this on a few forums, the coloring is way off. Anyone who has ever seen beta power should know this off the bat. The borders are too skinny to be beta on the lotus. Not to mention the Lotus has no white dots.
EDIT: now that I'm zooming in on the picture of the Lotus look at the boarders, it almost appears as if you can see paper lines like it was glued on. Maybe it's me being tired, but thats what it looks like.

This is my fav. Q & A:
Q: Hello! What an amazing collection! I would love to purchase it! I read your responses to others and noticed that you are fine with buyers coming by to view the collection/pick it up. I just wanted to clear this up with you: if I purchase the collection I would like to drive to Sacramento to pick it up on Friday, the day following the auctions end. If I win I will meet with you to inspect and authenticate the two power 9 sets. After confirming their authenticity I will connect to the internet and transfer you the auction total. You can confirm the funds as being transfered and then I will take the cards. This way both of us are secure the entire time and you receive your payment within a day of the auction end as requested. I just wanted to confirm this plan with you ahead of time to make sure it was fine with you. Also I was wondering if any of the Power 9 have any damage or play wear that is noticeable, since you say the cards are all mint and that is so rare. Thanks!Dec-31-07
A: as for the condition of the power nine, they have never been played. i have a third set in my legacy deck that is not for sale. it may seem rare to find these cards mint now, but when i first started they were plentyfull. i played with one set and the rest chilled in a binder all these years. as for picking them up, you would need to be in sacramento the night the auction ends and i would need cash only!! if you are picking them up.
This guy must have a sick legacy deck if it has P9 in it...

No, you're right. I talked to Annorax, the trade moderator on MTGSalvation, and he confirmed this.
Yeah I do agree. I didn't see the white dots either, but thought it was just the pic quality. I still don't see how he is going to let people come and pick it up still.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't notice that. That is definitely not a Beta Lotus, at best it's a penned Unlimited. Not having my own Lotus anymore to check against, I forgot the edging on those is a little thicker than the cards are now.
Well, here's to hoping he gets time for this sale if someone actually picks it up in person. We could use one less collectible scammer on Ebay, and he can't back out of it since there's written proof he supposedly pulled them all from packs himself.
gosh people are so stupid^^
if you buy a collection for that amount of money it's assumable the buyer woudl like to look at it first :s

Well, if it is fake, then there is the 7 day money back guarantee that the seller offered. Too bad the guy from Spain won't be able to cash in on it if they are fake.

Yeah, really. For 15K I want to know every goddamn card being offered, right down to the last Uncle Istavan.

A lot of things really don't seem right here. The guy needs the cash the night of the auction? He can't wait for someone to send it to him in a day or two? This all sounds bizarre. Like another poster said, he isn't going to type up a list of the other money cards like Drains? It doesn't make sense; if I were selling a collection like that, it wouldn't be because I NEEDED THE MONEY TONIGHT and I'd definitely have all the cards in the pile listed up so that I can get the most money I can out of it.
The fishy thing is all those revised duals; would a scammer have that many? Who knows. He may be planning on doing something like getting the money in Paypal, emptying his account, getting the money out of the bank and then closing all accounts before the cards even get there.
When something looks weird or out of place, it usually is.

There was a guy that did just that a few years back, cept he did it with coins. He like something like $50,000 in coins he didn't have, then he left the country after he got all the money. They eventually cought him in Canada but it took a long time to get all the money back to the people that got scamed. If done right I think you could get away with it, but why take the risk...

Actually, that's been a very common problem on Ebay for a while now, and the main reason why dual lands are still so cheap there. A couple people (I assume, or maybe just one) from Singapore (supposedly) bought out both Revised and some BB duals a while back, then started making incredibly legit looking photocopies of them, and selling the decksets dirt cheap. The money hit a Paypal account in the states, was immediately withdrawn from and cancelled within the 2 weeks or so it took to ship the cards so people would receive them, and then start a new one with another Paypal and Ebay account. The guy raked in about $10,000 at a time with his auctions, as he listed a few full decksets of Revised duals, plus decksets of single duals in 3-4x successions before people caught onto it. Still no word on whether or not they even got caught, I'm highly doubting it.
