Beta Tundra Winterland Event (49 Players)
Round 1
Round 1 Burn (??)
Game 1: I didn't really have a chance b/c he is playing burn and I'm playing landstill.
Game 2: I get a early COP-Red out and control the game until I win it via Mishra's Factories and have cast Decree of Justice angel tokens.
Game 3: I got another early COP-Red out, and lock him out with Pulse of the Fields. Unfortunately, I run out of time and start the day with a draw. I needed a few more turns for the win as I have a Decree Angel and a Eternal Dragon on the board. 0-0-1
Round 2 Angel-Stax (Wes )
These games were really quick as I assembled my mana base. I had counters for anything relevant and swords for exalted angels that hit the board. Wow, a quick matchup for landstill; that shit doesn't happen much.
1-0-1
Round 3 Ichorid (Parcher)
Oh, great a bad matchup to say the least.
Game 1: My strategy was basically to stay alive as long as possible until I tutor for Moat and he scoops.
Game 2: I bring in Tormod's Crypt and Engineered Plague. I'm not sure if plague is the proper call here, but it does stop Ichorid. I'm a little sketchy with the details of this game, but his dredges were pretty horrible. I did let him dredge the first few times before I got Crypt with tutor to empty out his graveyard. Mishra's Factories went in for the win.
2-0-1
Round 4 Landstill (Barnello)
This was another good matchup between the 2 of us. Also to note, both of our decks were pretty pimped, so thats another good reason to watch our matches.
Game 1: I win the die roll and start off with a turn 2 landstill which I protect with force of will backup. Adam eventually breaks through by playing Hoofprints of the Stag. I play tutor and get explosives to get rid of this card before things get out of hand. After I blow explosives, a turn later he plays a second one which was disappointing to say the least. The turning point in this game was when he had counterbalance and top out, I cast a crucible, but he found shackles off of the top activation.
Game 2: He gets more lands then I do in play and proceeds to win via Decree of Justice solider tokens as I'm playing defensive from the get go. It seems like his deck was better built for the mirror, while mine try to improve on general matchups as I have a tool box of cards I can tutor for.
Good games Adam.
2-1-1
Round 5: Kaddy (landstill)
Game 1: I found very early that he played with the green splash for goyf and monastery main deck. I was thinking about playing that build until I discovered that with enlightened tutor I improved a lot of my matchups. This matchup went back and forth so many times that it was a fun matchup to play. I know many people don't like landstill mirrors, but they are a lot of fun in my book. I eventually get a moat to stick in the late game and he scoops.
Ran out of time and didn't play game 2.
3-1-1
Round 6: Zuhair (B/g Suicide)
Game 1: He gets a pretty quick start which I have to play defensive, but with all the LD, Discard, and threats he overwhelms me late game with a spector and a tombstalker.
Game 2: I would of been in very good shape, but he drops a choke on me which I'm unable to recover from.
This ended my day going 3-2-1, a bit disappointing b/c with the win in the last round I would of make top 8. It was a lot of fun and hope to bring this deck to another big event.
I'm usually playing Affinity or Goblins around here, but its a new year so I believe its time for a new deck. Welcome Enlightened Landstill to the Syracuse metagame.
Props to all that attended.
