I recently went to the Wizards website and the Gatherer card database web address was ww2.wizards.com/gatherer instead of "www." Is this web address legit? I never remember it being this way. There also doing ads on that site which can't be good. Any help in this matter is appreciated. Thanx ahead of time.

It's been that way for a while now. I don't know why, but it has.

Yes it is. Just different Subdomain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subdomain).

But you shouldn't care either way, because you should be using Magiccards.info which is strictly better ;)

Yeah, www is just the way some people name their web servers. Some big sites have dedicated image servers like img.example.com. You can be totally nuts like Microsoft, who serves Hotmail from something like http://by134w.bay134.mail.live.com/

If ads bother you, you can strip them with different tools, e.g. a hostname blacklist (http://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/) or browser plugin.

You're kidding, right? Are you actually suggesting Gatherer is better than Magiccards.info?

Not only is it better, but it's strictly better too. I always use gatherer, search by color and type then sort by cost and go to town making new bad decks. What does magiccards.info give you that gatherer does not?

Most of all. Gatherer has the newest oracle text.

Check for Eladamri, Lord of Leaves, for instance...

Gatherer also lets you search spoilers, so you don't have to open any extra windows to see the text. Just sayin'.

You've never used Magiccards.info, have you?

I do like that you can link cards from their easier though. But I love gatherer so I don't have to click on a card to read it's oracle text.

Entschuldigung? Did you know there's an 'advanced' function, right next to the search box?

http://magiccards.info/search.html

There. Everything you need. Spoiler view, checklist view, sort by anything, sub-sort by anything, boolean search, and more stuff Gatherer lacks.

You can also use 'Preferences' to set spoiler view as default (needs cookies, obv).

I generally use MWS for card search, but when I don't have it, MC.info is my next choice.

It's also capable of more advanced searcheds then Gatherer. For example, say I wanted to know if there are any creatures in Lorwyn that can be played in Dragon Stompy. I could search for red creatures with power equal to or greater than there converted mana cost, and mana cost that contains "2r."

Does it have a filter for "Good Cards Only?"

ROFL!!!

On a serious note, it'd be cool if someone did a database and tagged all the cards with a playability rating from 1-10 in each format.
OMG it'd take forever and would have conflicting opinions, but an actual "Good Cards Filter" would rule.

Why is it that when I searched all B/G/R sorceries, sorted by color then by mana cost, that all the 1 drops and a lot of other cards did not show up on magiccards.info? What is it that I'm missing?

I always use gatherer for the simple reason that primary sources > secondary sources.

Actually, this would be simple to implement if you made it wiki style where it's dependant on user input. Just have a drop down menu or something in the pop-up box asking for a vote on playability in a particular format...

Yup - I just used MagicCards.info to find out what that 5/7 trample vigalince guy is in Lorwyn, and I don't think I'll ever use Gatherer again. What's up with adds now adays, anyway?
