Engineered plauge and nimble mongoose

If i have a engineered plague out for mongoose and my opponent has threshold and decides to play a nimble mongoose, does it die? or will it get +2/+2 before my plague can give it -1/-1?

Threshold is a static effect, so as long as its controller has 7 or more cards in your graveyard, Nimble Mongoose will be a 3/3.

There's no timestamps ("will it get +2/+2 before my plague can give it -1/-1") or other shenanigans involved. It will just be a 2/2.

I'm pretty sure that when state-based effects are checked that the mongoose would be a 2/2.
