Lego

ANNOUNCING!! Legacy at Your Move Games in Boston (Somerville) MA!
- Date: Saturday, March 15th
- Start Time: 12:30pm (the store opens at noon, the tournament will start promptly at 12:30)
- Type: Legacy (1.5) - This event will be DCI Sanctioned
- Cost: $10
- Location: Your Move Games, 389 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA, 02144 (right off the Davis Square T Stop)

The tournament will be Swiss with a cut to Top 4 (or Top 8 if we get a large enough turnout.) Prizes will still be based on turnout, but they will be actual card prizes now, and at the very least I can guarantee a Tarmogoyf for first (of course, if we get more people the prize support will be greater, and it's up to participants if we want a more top-heavy payout or not.)

Please feel free to let me know you're coming, and let me know what kind of prizes you'd like to see. I'd also like feedback on raising the price to $10- do you like the change, or would you prefer the $5 entry and smaller prizes?

In case anyone is interested, I will be judging the tournament, and it will be run at REL Regular.

If you have any questions, PM me or e-mail Evn [dot] Tomeny [at] Gmail [dot] com. I hope to see you there!

You mispelled Somerville. And I'm probably not going to be able to go to another tournament until May. I took apart all of my decks and I'm in the process of investing money on a new deck. Sorry I can't make it. If you can lend me a decent deck, Evn, I might be able to go though. :wink:

P.S. - And even if I buy cards for a new deck in a week from now, they probably won't come in the mail until later than the 15th.

Evn, I will be there
Cav, I will try and build you something if you can't put your cards into a pile of 60 cards.

Thanx for the offer Bill. But if I mail a money order I should be able to get the cards in time *hopefully*. I still need some stuff for the deck though. Trade me 4 Ghostly Prison and 2 Extirpate if you have any bro (the Extirpate is for a different deck, mind you).

I'm afraid that that weekend, I'll be at the gaming weekend they have at WPI. Maybe next time... I don't think too many players cross-demographic that much, though...

I'm sorry you can't make it, but we'll keep holding them, so you can come to the next one :)

Change of plans, I probably won't be there. Since I'm totally broke after Hadley and need to save my entry fee money for ELD's Lotus tourney on the 29th, it looks like I'll miss this unless I manage to find an extra $15 this week for entry and parking. Sorry.

Lego

After the last tournament, players seemed pretty unanimous about raising the entry fee to support better prizes, but lately I've gotten a fairly decent response from players who don't want the entry fee raised. Anyone have a problem with a $5, or even a $3 entry fee? Then it's not so much about the prizes, but just about getting together on a Saturday to play some Legacy.

I'm still definitely down for playing at whatever price and think 10 is a good number.

In the spirit of inclusion I will pay the entry fee for whoever plays this:

// Lands
2 Karakas
2 Mishra's Factory
4 City of Brass
2 Dryad Arbor
1 Savannah
4 Flooded Strand
4 Tundra

// Creatures
1 Tarmogoyf
3 Phyrexian Dreadnought
3 Volrath's Shapeshifter
3 Vesuvan Shapeshifter

// Spells
3 Attunement
1 Saproling Burst
1 Pandemonium
2 Parallax Wave
2 Ghostway
3 Intuition
2 Parallax Tide
2 Living Plane
4 Careful Study
2 AEther Flash
3 Opalescence
3 Replenish
3 Humility

It has tarmogoyf so you know it's competitive.

Looking forward to this. Last tournament was great fun.

Humility screws with a lot of things. The idea was to give lego something fun to do every round since he is judging.

I wasn't expecting to be called out on it twice. But, no, I can't build that deck completely. Why would I build a deck and pay you to play it? Where is the sport in that? But if you can and play it I will pay your entrance fee. (Limited to one player more for avoidance of the mirror in the 0-3 bracket than anything).

Needs more Tarmogoyf? A bit dry isn't it?

Honestly, rules questions like that aren't the biggest headache we have to deal with. If you want "big headache.dec", then you missed Dark Confidant and Sensei's Divining Top, just as a start.

But seriously... can that deck actually win games?

It certainly could win games but I can't think of a single legacy deck it would win against. Maybe reanimator.

Has anyone tried replenish? It is like salvagers game a bit but without the vulnerability to chalice 0,1 and counter top. It is just high CC and slow.

Why was confidant and top so hard? Were people wanting to top after revealing to change the value?

All in all the day was a lot of fun. I went 3-0 and T4'd with Death and Taxes which I just finished building literally on Friday. It was very nice to meet you guys and you even convinced me to sign up for an account here on the Source, heh.

Damn, if I would of gotten paired up with either Death & Taxes or Burn I would of made Top4. Just my luck that I got paired up versus Dragon Stompy, in the last round. :frown: I'm also kind of mad at BC for not including Naturalizes in the SB of the deck he lent me. :mad: Xantid Swarm was a waste of a slot for this particular metagame. And during the whole tournament I only sideboarded once. It's all good though, B.C., I should of thought about the naturalizes ahead of time. :wink:

Fun tournament over all. Especially rewarding was my only match loss which was against death & taxes where I got cataclysm'ed off the top. I am just now mentally recovering.

I played this and made T2:

// Lands
11 Mountain
4 City of Traitors
4 Ancient Tomb

// Creatures
4 Magus of the Moon
4 Arc-Slogger
4 Gathan Raiders
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Rakdos Pit Dragon
3 Akroma, Angel of Fury

// Spells
3 Umezawa's Jitte
2 Blood Moon
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Chrome Mox
4 Seething Song

// Sideboard
SB: 1 Umezawa's Jitte
SB: 4 Tormod's Crypt
SB: 1 Shattering Spree
SB: 3 Pyrokinesis
SB: 4 Trinisphere
SB: 2 Powder Keg

I used the entire sideboard except the crypts. Blood moons came out every match in this meta. The Akroma's and SoF/I were not used and were just a bit too clunky. Arc-Slogger was great all day.

Sorry about that. :wink: You've got to admit though, that was a rediculous match.

Anywho, I thought I'd post my decklist too.

// Land
11 Plains
4 Rishadan Port
4 Karakas
3 Flagstone of Trokair

//Creatures
4 Serra Avenger
3 Mangara of Corondor
3 Isamaru, Hound of Konda
3 Samurai of the Pale Curtain
3 True Believer
2 Jotun Grunt

//Spells
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 AEther Vial
3 Cataclysm
3 Umezawa's Jitte
3 Oblivion Ring

// Sideboard
SB: 4 Thorn of Amethyst
SB: 4 Orim's Chant
SB: 3 Tivadar of Thorn
SB: 1 True Believer
SB: 1 Jotun Grunt
SB: 1 Samurai of the Pale Curtain
SB: 1 Oblivion Ring

I went 3-0 vs. Burn, Dragon Stompy and TES only to lose to Goblins (a favorable matchup in my opinion) in the T4. Oh well.

I played something close to this (I can't remember exactly):

6 Mountain
2 Plateau
4 Wooded Foothills
4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Wasteland
3 Rishadan Port
= 23 land

4 Lackey
4 Ringleader
4 Warchief
4 Piledriver
3 Gempalm Incinerator
2 Mogg Fanatic
4 Matron
1 Stingscourger
2 Siege-Gang
1 Kiki-Jiki
1 Sharpshooter
= 30 creatures

4 Aether Vial
3 Swords to Plowshares
= 7 other

4 Pyrostatic Pillar
4 Leyline of the Void
3 Pyrokinesis
3 Disenchant
1 Swords to Plowshares
= 15 sideboard cards

I play white splash instead of black splash because, as I told Lego, the Goblins are the ones that win the game, not the white or black cards. Those are just gravy. I prefer Swords to Weirding because it costs one less and it targets. On the other side of the argument, it can't be Matroned or Ringleadered, which would have been nice a couple of times. White also gives you Disenchant, and although I never cast it, I'm glad it's there.

Goblins is an utterly predictable deck. It won against Dragon Stompy, Burn, and (an unexpectedly tough match) against White Weenie. It lost to combo. How boring.

Why was confidant and top so hard? Were people wanting to top after revealing to change the value?

It's not a rules thing. People forget to reveal for Confidant, and people activate Top when it's not in play (Tap top, draw a card, pass my turn. You take your turn, EOT, activate top to look at the top 3... happens all the time.) They become so difficult because there are questions of Missed Triggers, Failure to Reveal, Looking at Extra Cards, Drawing Extra Cards, etc.

As for the tournament, it was only 8 people, but it was a lot of fun! I'm thinking about running the next one here in Newton, on campus, because I can do it for free, and that way the entire entry fee can go to prizes. We'll see though. Looks like April 5th is the next time I can make this happen.

I was actually a little surprised that the payout was not 100% of the entry fee. It seems like that has become the standard for Eternal tournaments lately. And since the prize is store credit, the shop will still make money on the tournament. Anyway, I support moving to another location and having higher payout.

Yeah, I realized afterwards that it's because the store paid me. Which is cool, but I don't mind volunteering.

Is Newton ok for people? I know there are a couple of people who live up in Somerville who'd be happy to give rides, and the location is right off the T (ok, up a big-ass hill from the T, but I don't mind giving rides up the hill :smile:) If I get 8 people who respond, I'll hold the next one on April 5th in Newton Centre. On the other hand, in Newton Center, you have access to great Neapolitan pizza (Sweet Tomatoes), some good Thai food (Coconut Cafe... I suggest trying the Kai Sub Kraplao/Prik Ka Prow (ground chicken with onions, hot and sweet peppers, and basil)), ice cream (JP Licks and Cold Stone), and some take-out Chinese. There's just a lack of the more... standard fast-food.

I haven't the slightest clue as to who the fuck any of you are but I would like to play. That being said something extremely close to the T is going to be the best bet.

PS Tables and a decent amount of play space is pretty key IMO.
PSS Something that resembles a living space rather then a dungeon would be hot. Think Myriad Games in NH if any of you have been there, Dan Yarrington (SP?) keeps that place immaculate.
