So I was looking at some prices yesterday because I am trying to build a new deck. I was astounded that it would cost this much when I have all the manabase completed minus 4 fetches and around 16 other cards. This means I have over half the deck. Try to guess what the price was. Prices are from ccghouse.com.

Answer
Around $550

A couple factors to the large price:

1) Buying Fetches during extended PTQ season.
2) Using an online store and not MOTL or Ebay(which sucks now a days anyway)
3) Being impatient and wanting all the cards at once (happens to me all the time and I overpay. Back in my "dealing" days I was much more patient and got amazing deals but I might not get a card I wanted for 3 months, I sometimes overpay now but I have my limits.)

These will help you get good deals on cards.

I am looking to build GBWr Survival. It was just crazy to me how expensive it all was. 4 Giyfs, 4 Seize, 4 Doran, 4 Birds, 4 SotF, 4 Wooded Foothills. That ammounted for most of it. 24 cards = roughly $450-500! Now, I know ebay is way cheaper and I would use that, I just use Starcity and CCG for seeing how much weight I'll lose. I was just surprised and now don't know when I'll be able to finish the deck.

Hah, I had the same problem, with the same deck...I needed the duals and the SotF's, thats it, I saw how much the SotF's were going for and said forget it...

I love going to one of my card shops just a town over. Called Off the Wall Games as some of you may know it.

Trade in a bunch of cards I will never touch again and get lots of cards without having to pay money.

4 Goyfs, 4 Seize, 4 Doran, 4 Birds, 4 SotF, 4 Wooded Foothills

Very Popular Extended cards highlighted. Go and buy these after Extended season and besides the Goyfs, everything will be half price. Just to give you an idea of how much the price jumps: I bought 4 Vindicates at 8 apiece in October with credit I won at a store. Average price now: around $20

The real ($$) problem here is the overlap between your deck needs and the 100s of 1,000s of demands from Block, Standard and Extended for the same cards. Play something else for the time being. :)

You weren't doing your research by my understanding so that is why you ha to pay through the nose.

I haven't bought anything yet... I was just astounded at the prices. I probably won'y buy anything until prices goes down and Goyf rotates out of Standard or something.

Why would you want to wait till Goyf rotates, it's not going to bring his price down that much?

Once it rotates out of Standard, and if you catch him NOT during Extended season, then I'm sure you can save $10 on him. $10 x 4 = $40. That's alot of money to save by waiting a while. Goyf isn't going anywhere in Legacy, so it's not like you have a time limit as to how long you can play him.

Yeah I agree. I'm so happy to have picked up my Japanese playset of Burning Wishes before the Extended kick.
I was SHOCKED when I saw the prices those stupid things are going for.

Hey, it's not that bad.

When I saw those prices I've decided to get rid of some cards... Sold some Flooded Strands (bought them for 15$/piece) for 20$/piece, some Burning Wishes (bought for like... 7,50$/piece?) for 14$/piece, some Chrome Moxen etc etc. I'll just pick them up again as soon as the season is over.

On anything Extended:

Wait until the end of the year. We rotate out Invasion, Odyssey, and Onslaught blocks. A good 75% of the cards you want will be gone from there for good, and prices will tank.

We don't rotate out Onslaught.... no cheap fetchlands.

Actually, it seems your right. I just did some research, and it looks like Wizards decided to change their rotation standards again. Now we're down to only 2 blocks rotating out, plus 1 core.

Guess Legacy didn't pick up and take on the slot of "middle man" tournament like they wanted it to back in 2004.

OK WTF. Now the rotations are going to happen YEARLY. So now not only is Extended the ultimate bastard child of tournaments, it's rotating just as often as standard. Say goodbye to a diverse cardpool, I guess.

Oh wtf, I wanted cheaper fetchlands :<<<

Guess I'll settle for MMage and Chant coming down...Vindicate too probably (already have my wishes and deeds).
