As most of you guys know the Lucky Frog in Annandale, VA has been a huge supporter of the Legacy format (all the way back to it's 1.5 days) and a great card shop to play at for any format really. It saddens me to say that this Saturday, March 2nd will most likely be the last Legacy tournament it will hold as Dan Grandon (Store owner) will be shutting the store down. We'd like everyone that is able to attend please show up and give the store the thank you it deserves.

When: March 1st, 2008
Where: Lucky Frog
7229 Little River Tpke
Annandale, VA 22003
Fee: $5 like always
Prize: Store credit based on participants.

As I mentioned please show up if you can as this place has helped the NoVA Legacy community for far too long.

Although I've never been to the Lucky Frog, it saddens me to hear that such a devout suporter of Legacy is forced to close its door. Good luck to all.

That is unfortunate - extremely. It's news like this that emboldens me to open out to the community and say, "Someone needs to open a new store devoted to gaming and include Legacy as part of its tournament structure". Comix Zone here in Syracuse is a great place to play, and during the summer things are sure to pick up (when everyone is back from school and such). It makes we wonder: What are you guys going to do now?

Well there's another store willing to hold bi-weekly tournaments, but it just wont be the same regardless. Hopefully we'll try to get something going and going hard. I'd hate for legacy to die out here in the Northern Virginia.

This is very sad, I have some nice memories of this store. If I could find someone that would want to go down with me I would be there for this.

Sad and true. I'm growing more and more concerned; aside from the store in VA, I know of three stores in NC that have closed recently and more that may be on the way. Is it purely the difficulty in turning a profit with such a narrow focus, or is there something else that is closing down all these stores?

That sucks, I was looking forward to playing there when I move to MD for school. Hopefully somewhere else picks up the Legacy tourneys.

Sad but fucking true. Albany has a pretty good T2 scene but no Legacy to speak except for P_R, Watcher, and Myself. =(

yeah, and my attendence at these every-other-friday legacy events is rather spotty as it's a decent haul and there is that whole problem of having a varying schedule with work.

Oh what I'd give for the Guild to be back, even with it's shady store-goers and Warhammer40k/RAWDEAL players jacking our chairs and tables on friday nights.

And it's rigged own format that unrestricted everything in Vintage? I'll pass on that :)

We can't even agree on the worst card in magic - how the hell are we going to fix the economy, bolster consumer confidence (especially in gaming products), provide more disposable income, and strengthen the dollar against the euro, the yen & the Magic booster pack?!?

Because Allen: We're a population in the geological sense - a relatively small population. We should find more ways to openly promote the format rather than just the internet. Couldn't hurt to try.

March 2nd is not a leap year, however, March 1st is. March 2nd is also my bday.

It is called you use your winnings to buy cards/product before they close. What are they supposed to do just give cash out and not make money? That is how stores get closed in the first place.

Please go back to working on your shitty Reanimator build and not poking fun at a long time Legacy supporter closing their doors.

How many times have all of us bought cards on Ebay or some online store or just sharked MOTL? And we are a small population...not enough to keep a store afloat ourselves in what is becoming a nasty recession.

WTF are you talking about, Sir? The Gamers Guild played 1.5 and then Legacy after teh format rotation. I believe you've been mistaken.

The fucking memories.
I see Doug every now and again at Borders.

PS- There's a minor Legacy scene in glens falls, but I haven't made the trip up in a while. Get at rsaunder or thebirdman for more details.

Also, 2 518 area players top8ed the GAGG, Albany magic ain't dead yet.

Last I played there was... 2001?... and they had a FN format where I faced someone with *4* Mox Rubies in his deck... and a 10-12-year-old playing Squirrelcraft. After that, I shopped there, but didn't play... Played limited at Flights every so often and constructed at school.

Ah, Well I started playing 1.5 there in '03 and friday night was 1.5 tournaments, and then after the '04 seperation, Legacy. I never played there during the whatever you want stages, though I did play at Saratoga Sci-fi that had a nearly whatever you want rulings. That place was fun sometimes; Gold borders were legal, 4x anything as long as you owned it (so power if you got it), and basically anything you want that wasn't storm or worldgorger combo because they wanted the games to last more than 1 turn. Fun times playing Ravager Affinity with skullclamp, sol rings, and black vise
