I can't go to this tourney for the following reason:

Me (in May): Can I borrow the car the weekend of July the 19th to drive 3 & a half hours South to go to Syracuse.

My dad (in May): Sure shouldn't be a problem.

Parents (late June): We are going on vacation and taking taking the car on the weekend of July the 19th.

Me: But you said over a month ago I could have the car that weekend.

Parents: We'll let you have it for the next big tournament.

Carousel Center has instituted a Parental Escort Policy on Fridays and Saturdays between the hours of 4pm and closing.

Anyone under the age of 18 visiting Carousel Center must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21 years of age or older. One parent or guardian (21 years of age or older) is permitted to supervise up to five teens. Teens must remain within the company of their parent or guardian. Acceptable proof of age is a driver's license, state/provincial non-driver ID, military or college ID, passport or visa.

I see this and go WTF? Then later on when the family was vacationing in Buffalo/Niagra Falls we stop at the Walden Galleria mall in Buffalo and there is a sign stating the same rule.

Actually, the only decks that I have played in the past 2 years that don't have top in them are Burn and Survival. I put top in Wombat when I played it for a couple of weeks, and I also have it in any kind of black based board control deck that I play, except for landstill. So yeah, Tarmogoyf doesn't even have any bearing on whether or not I play top. And for the record, when we played it was my first and second times playing the deck. And against Big Brian, it was my first time playing against Ichorid, and he was also taking his time. I did not go to time in the round at all this past tournament, except against Di, and I think he would agree that was not because of me playing slowly, just that it was a very long game 1.

I had a lot of fun at this tournament, I got to see a lot of people I haven't seen in awhile, though it wasn't fun to 2-2 because of play mistake and bad dredging round 4 game 3.

I also have to thank Zach "two baskets" Tartell, because nothing could top his awesomeness. How often does someone hand you 75 good cards and say go play?

Overall, good tournament. There were some issues when it came to seating due to crowded space and trying to get fat people through rows, but otherwise everything ran smoothly. It was the first seven round event we've had in a while, so that was good. I ended up 5-2 in 14th place, being the unfortunate lowest 5-2 out of all of us (I think every single person I played against ended up scrubbing out, which was unfortunate because a 5-2 made it into top8). Oh well, good times.

And a congratulations to everyone in top8, especially Geoff for never losing throughout the event. My hat's off to you.

That last game in the finals was one of the best game's of magic I have ever played in a tournament. Goobafish literally had lethal damage on the stack and I still pulled out the win in the end. Perhaps people will stop saying Landstill is dead now?

I actually predicted the metagame correctly and that Goblins would be the right call to play at this tournament. I told a number of people to play the deck and they'd be nearly guaranteed to do well, but nobody ended up doing it. There was a lot of Ichorid and a lot of Counterbalance decks. Goblins was really a perfect metagame call, but I only saw like 2-3 being played.

To be fair, Anwar mulled to 3 game 1, and still had like LED, golgari and some card, but his LED got forced so he got smashed. And game 2, his deck just crapped out on him. He opened with Cephalid Coliseum, LED, Breakthrough for 0. He milled 23 cards and saw 0 Narcomebas and 0 DAs. Dave then brainstormed into Tormod's Crypt and smashed again. Anwar just got a case of bad luck, dredging half his deck and finding nothing.

Awesome event. I would have taken notes, but once I lost the first round, I wasn't too sure about going the distance. I had an awesome time, and it was amazing meeting so many Sourcers in one place. I can't stop going over game three of the finals in my head, it was just so intense and drawn out. A well deserved victory by Geoff.

TheNick was playing Goblins, and was in contention right up until the end.


I thought Goblins was going to be the correct choice because I heard there was going to be a lot of Ichorid and expected Threshold to show up. I've been playing Canadian Threshold in the large events recently, but didn't feel like playing against either Ichorid or mirror matches all day.

I played very well and coming up just a little short in the end. My loses was to Bryant with TES which I expected and the second lost game in the 6 round to Anwar with Ichorid in 3 games.

The tournament was a lot of fun, hopefully the next one will be even better.

Also, I blame Tenniebopper for not showing and having 9th place go to me instead of him. :)

Survival was a great choice for me yesterday. I lost to Ichorid and It's the Fear in the Swiss. Ichorid I lose 95% of the time, and Deep6er straight up outplayed me for his win. Those were cool games. I lost to TES in the Top 8, which is alright. But I steamrolled Imperial Painter, 5c and Red Thresh, MUC, and the mirror. Goblins should have seen more play, and so should Ichorid, probably. I was very happy not to see more Ichorid, though.

Just thought I would add to this, sorry for not really introducing myself to more people and for not being as helarious as I normally am. I had a massive hedache because the lights above one table were twitching on and off(Don remembers). I went to sleep with it and woke up with it.

In all fairness I imagine at least half of the players paid $25 to pre-reg. for the event. They also gave away a Mana Drain, Abyss, Sea Drake, and some shitty magic art prints.

Maybe they'll use all this money they made to PUT A FUCKING TOILET IN THE STORE.
