QFT...adding prizes for 5th - 8th would increase the turn out...people will be more willing to travel if they know they can come away with something for making top 8.

If you only have the $1000 cash to put up, I think most people wouldn't mind:

1st: 400
2nd: 200
3rd: 100
4th: 100
5-8: 50

$400 for 1st is still quite a bit of money, a fist-second split is easier, and 5-8th at least come away with their entrance fee and gas/food money.

That said, if you have an additional $300 to put towards this event, I'd suggest $75 for 5th - 8th tacked on to the original $1000 payout for top 4.

I like your second suggestion a lot. Adding that little extra would make this tournament like a combination of a Mox tournament and a DLD, which would make it much more attractive in my opinion. There would be the excitement of a very large first prize without the bitter disappointment of making top 8 and walking away with nothing (Which I have experienced first hand. It sucks even more than scrubbing out.) All that the extra $300 needs to do to be profitable is attract more than 12 extra people, which seems very likely to happen.

Do you realize that this tournement is the same weekend as another one already scheduled? Granted it's onthe other side of the country but people from syracuse, rochester, and virginia are already planning on going to that one. Perhaps you could schedule it several weeks later or earlier so we could go to this?

It's stickied right above this thread.

I don't htink any of us won't be back from the tournement for the following weekend. You'd have to delay it at least two weeks for us to be able to attend. And we'd be traveling the two weekends before that as well.

So basically there can be no Legacy events other than the Washington tourney in the month of June because you want to spend an entire month on the road?

I don't know what you guys do, but how the hell can you afford three weeks of travel?

Anyway, I'll try to be there whenever it is. I also think prizes for 5-8 should be given. Hopefully this is a good turnout.

They're gonna lose out on 4 from Syracuse, and maybe 5 from VA. It's not really all that big a deal, even if they run it the same day.

That's my point, if they work it seems like three weeks is a lot of time to take off.

Sorry if my last post sounded dickish, I was extremely tired and working on a paper when I posted, so I wasn't in a very good mood.

Rob, if you could post when preregistration ends for this that would be helpful, it sucked last time when it ended 2 days before the event and there was nothing mentioned about that on your website, especially when the event still looked available to buy.

I'd say that they'd be losing at least a dozen people. That's like a third to a fourth of average attendance to a torunament.

Unfortunate timing, really.

The weekend of 6/21 is the same as Grand Prix Indi, I would not hold it that weekend.

I doubt to many would go to washington for a DLD where top prize is only 4 dual lands, but they could be crazy.

There are a bunch of us going to GP Indy that weekend, you might want to move it like 7/12/2008, its the weekend after the 4th and I don't see anything else going on...this would prob. get you the best turn out...

If you wanted to move this for the sake of non conflicting with the washington tournement, then the weekend of June 14,21,28 and July 5th, would be no good for us. Postponeing it two weeks, or bumping it up 3 weeks would be fine.

July 12th-ish seems to make a lot of sense. Neither a GP nor an EPIC road trip nor another previously scheduled event seems to be occurring within 2 weeks, which would give your tournament priority & make anyone later be the interloper. Just beware that it might pose a dilemma for all the Spanish players having to choose between traveling to this & GP Madrid on 7/26....

Heres a crazy thought. why not have it the week before the GP in indianapolis. Im not sure howe many legacy players want to attend the GP but if I have a chance to win some of my travel expenses to Indy Id totally be there. This may be the best strategy. Heck event those going to Washington mightmake the trip to try and win extra travel cash.

Sweet, I might make this. A few weeks after the East Coasters get stomped in Washington, I can add insult to injury and take prizes from your home turf!

Is anyone going to this from the Long Island area? I'd be willing to split gas.

And/Or will anyone put me up for a night or two that weekend in Syracuse? Mapquest says it's a five hour drive. Will I have any luck trying to get a train between those two places?

It is if you use the overpass bridges with the sidewalks...otherwise you takes your chances....

81's actually an elevated highway at that point - you'll walk beneath an overpass getting to the mall from the station. No troubles.

I have several questions:

-So far the prize structure looks really great, so this is going to sound greedy. If many people come up from MA and VA there could be a big turnout. Would it be possible to have a prize structure in the event of turnout of 40-70 people?

-What does pre-registering entail? Can I just say please pre-register (insert my name here)? Or do I have to pay in advance?

-So far the prize structure looks really great, so this is going to sound greedy. If many people come up from MA and VA there could be a big turnout. Would it be possible to have a prize structure in the event of turnout of 40-70 people?Based on history, it's unlikely the support will increase past the advertised, regardless of attendance. That's fine though, remember that the store is a business, and has bills to pay.

-What does pre-registering entail? Can I just say please pre-register (insert my name here)? Or do I have to pay in advance? It requires you pay in advance. There's a place to do so on the website (or will be, closer to the date), which is linked in the opening post.

-What are PGMCKU points? It's a competition that runs locally all summer; you gain points for entering and doing well in events, and gain store credit based on your ending results.

-Will there be side-events? (It's a bit early-I know )It's way early, but there's usually a draft or something.

You might feel that way, but any time an event has been held in Syracuse the same weekend as the Pre-Release, several people voice the same opinion, yet most end up at the Pre-Re instead.

I just felt it necessary to give a heads up that there was a conflict. If Altered wants to risk losing the money by holding the event the same weekend as Eventide, then so be it.

Right now i have some play sets of cards that i will be giving away if we reach, i just have to figure out the levels at which to give them away at.

So drag a friend along with you!!!

its about a 5 Hour drive, but about 4 of Team Hammafist's members should be making the trip and spending a weekend in Syracuse.

Last time I checked there is only 4 members of the team so that would include everyone huh huh? I love not being pre-informed about dedicating a weekend to being in Syracuse, for future reference please inform everyone on the team about this next time,so yeah i guess I'm clearing anything I had planned for that weekend kkthks

Syracuse will never be the same.

Umm the only person I'd be scared of on the team being in Syracuse is Rodney thank you very much the rest of the team is how you say normal, at least I can say that for Rob and Myself I don't know about Tom he is out there with Rodney:tongue: they hangout to much, we could always bump Rodney for
that weird Jason guy., so yeah I'd only be worried about Rodney and Tom making the City never the same.

There is a pretty good possibility of a car from Virginia that would want to go to this.

First, is someone willing to put up with a carload for crashing space?

Second... actually, no, it's more of just the first one. So, can we crash somewhere? We should have more information on the numbers as it gets closer (we Virginians are notoriously lazy).

And seriously, the K-Rockathon will suck. Every year they have the same bands with a few other decent ones tossed in the mix. You can catch better shows at the Lost Horizon or Half Penny downtown Syracuse. It's crowded, dirty, humid, expensive, and you can't even drink without getting a dirty look from security, even if you're way over 21. I'd rather play cards and trade with old friends for money.

Well coming from someone who has ACTUALLY seen the majority of these bands live already, I know that this show will be fucking intense.

Sorry for wanting to be outside listening to music instead of playing Magic cards.

To the VA crew who wants to go to this, just keep me posted. Tix right now are available @ www.krockathon.com .

To the rest of who who might not enjoy this (i.e. Mike((s))), fuck off. I'm not trying to take people away from this tournament that you guys will surely scrub out of just like every other big tourney. If y'all don't like this music, then don't go. Don't rain on my parade, either.

Altered is fine as long as they don't have any other events that day.

What day is your birthday? I hope it isn't the night before the event. I'm not sure I can do hungover wasted Magic again and still win money. Then again, I got plastered and had a threesome the night before the last big event, and top8'd. We'll see what happens.

Guys, I reckon I'll say that my place (I have one futon that can seat two (if you call no-homo) and pleanty of floor space) is free for like up to six. The deal is as follows, however:

-Bed by 2 A.M.
-Sleep quietly

I plan on staying sober friday night, then returning to my place (about 45 minutes away from the event site) friday night, to return saturday morning.

PM me for questions or hot step-sister sightings.

Pardon my interruption of the shittalking (both Magical and Liquid) for this organizational (or organisational if you're British) announcement:

If you've asked me about crashing on my floor, or you're looking for a place to sleep in Syracuse, we need to start organizing locations. Right now, I've committed all the possible floor space at my house to the Masshole contingent of:

JanValentine00
HammafistRoob
Roodmistah
Jon (Unregged)

In addition, I've been asked for help for:

AngryTroll
Ebinsugewa

And I'm under the impression that the crew from VA is going to need some room, as well. I believe this includes:

Quicksilver
Mad Zur
Ob Freely
Krieger

and theoretically:

Deep6er
Parcher
Ewokslayer
AnwarA101
Nitewolf9

Now, this is all well and good. To my knowledge, we should be able to accomodate all of you in one way or another. I'll give Zaranski a call in a bit to see what his story is as far as crash space/party goes. That being said, here's the plan of attack for the weekend:

Friday - People arrive at various times of the evening. Testing, a little alcohol maybe, and debauchery ensues, as we have an event to play the next "morning." If people are interested in having a party Friday night, too, well, we'll see what we can do.

Saturday - Tournament. Based on how fast Edinger scrubs out, we may be headed to bars early or later on. There will most likely be drinking in Fakespam's basement, if not elsewhere. If you are old enough to drink Legally in the United States, then you can feel free to accompany us to celebrate Teeniebopper's birthday at our favorite dives, and watch me drop the ball on hotties that want my junk, and watch Mike get hit on by old ladies and gay guys. It will be a good time.

Sunday - Much recovery and breakfast will ensue. Then GTFO of my state.

After doing a quick "Yeah, Dave Price could sleep here." observation of my apartment, I can sleep 8 Dave Prices. I could even get like... nine if my roommate wouldn't mind you guys defiling his bed.

Previously mentioned restrictions and noteworthy shit:

It'd be straight up like it was at Allen's place, sans-drinking and staying up (seriously) all night. This means:

No extremely drunk people. I'll only tollerate you so long as you are quiet and get to sleep by 2:30 AM.
No heavy drinking here. If you want to drink the 1 Corona I have left in my fridge, or that can of Miller that has been in there since last May, go for it. But that's pretty much it.
I have no bedclothes for you. Or whatever you call them. There is 1 pillow in the house not on my bed, and I could spare 1 not-seamen soaked blanket (we'll discuss the number of seamen soaked ones later). I have a futon that has been shotgunned by AngryTroll, and a couple chairs that would be uncomfortable to sleep in. You folks would have to seriously just like curl up on the carpet and dream of winning some sweet cash, 'cause dreaming of sleeping more comfortably won't help.

That is to say that my floor, while carpeted, will most likely be very uncomfortable.

I'm two turns and 35-45 minutes off the 81 next to the event site. My brother (who, while I love him dearly, is not the brightest marker in the box) got here no problem; I'm sure you folks will be fine.
I have 1 shower. I don't recall that ever being a problem at Allen's (since I don't recall many people using the upstairs shower), but I don't have towels for you to use. You'll seriously find only one in my apartment, and I use that one to dry my balls off.

I hope that's gross enough to scare you off

I plan on staying sober (enough - I'll probably have a drink or two) on Saturday, so if you guys would like a ride to and from my place earlier that day then you're probably in luck. I will, however, be going out with TeenieBopper's birthday brigade, so that may make rendezvousing for the ride back to my place difficult to coordinate.
PM me with "save me a spot"-s.

Does that mean I can get a ride back to my house that night? You know I live right off 690/48 heading back to Oswego, so it's not like I'm out of the way. I'll even be able to float you some money for gas probably.

Also, an addendum to Adam's itinerary. I'm inviting non-magic playing friends out (yes, I have them). I'm going to be setting it up so that I'm downtown around 10:30, no later than 11. If you want to go, plan for that. You may even have to leave as soon as finals are over. Expect to have to quit your casual games in the middle. If you want food between magic and drinking (and I know you will) plan for it. Don't think a 15 person party is going to be sat and served in an hour. Oh, and don't forget that I"m an asshole. I will leave without you.

OK, so VA might have as many as 9 coming. The list of people who (might, waiting for finalization for some of them) are coming is as follows:

Me
Dan (nitewolf9)
Damon (Parcher)
Anwar (AnwarA101)
Brian (Ewokslayer)
Alix (Obfuscate Freely)
Jesse H (Mad Zur)
Krieger (Krieger)
Kevin Kehoe (beastman)

Not all of them have confirmed yet, but that's the theoretical list so far.

As an aside, if I recall correctly, Jesse Hatfield doesn't get along so well with cats. I don't think it was a problem when we were at Kadilak's, but I noticed that Zach's new avatar had a cat in it. Do you have a cat Zach?

Additionally, we'll be finalizing things this week. So, are the people who still offered space still cool with (up to 9) people coming? How soon do you need numbers? How soon do you want confirmation?

No, that's actually my brother (he's way more attractive than I am, even though he's a little broken out in the picture). And that's one of my cats from home. I did have a cat staying here like... four months ago. Is it cat hair that he's not down with, or cats?

Also, remember, I'm like 45 minutes away from the tournament site. Just reiterating that shit.

And I can do nine folks easy. But remember - no food (Oswego does have sundry fast food places and delivery places, though), no pillows or blankets, and no extremely drunk folk.

Edit: Funny story - the cat is actually featured in our own pimp thread:

Breaking News Update:

Brendan "I call Zach embarrassingly early after he's spent the entire last night contemplating proposing to Amanda Tapping via snail mail" O'Dowd will be arriving at what could generously be called my apartment shortly. I don't know if anyone else cares about this, but he freaking woke me up like.... four hours before I'd have liked. Anyway, trash talk in list form:

Virginia:

My spurned offer of room and negligible board will (hopefully) load me up for some savage, karma-fueled beats. Like, the kind of "first round at the last Hadley (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10127)" style beats.

Ohio:

I could care less if this is where emdiliion is coming from - I'm honestly way more concerned about Media314r8 and his crew. They were pretty cool when last we met, but I haven't heard from any of them. So... I'ma beat all your asses, but it'd be a pleasure to see you (that I might beat your ass)

Massachutsuettes players (yeah, I'ma disrespect you and make an issue of my terrible spelling in one move. Top that, suckas):

I really don't have anything against you. I guess I could go with the obligatory "your favorite deck sucks" comment (useless trivia: I was recently thinking of cool stuff that could be stenciled on a playmat, and came up with "The EPIC Syndicate" and then in smaller letters below it, "P.S. - we've got decks like Jesus"), but I'm impressed that your teenage selves were able to make it out here (be ready for us to drop all of the terrible jokes we were until recently able to dump upon Bryant all over your asses). Pre-Slops go to the rest of Slaygo or whatever they're calling their team - I drive out for you suckers.

EPIC:

I'd consider a top four split when Bryant, Myself, Trevor, and.... Nat? Is Jim coming? How about a top 8 with Adam, Abold, me, Bryant, Jim, Nat, Trevor, and Colin. That'd be nice.
