Me and a friend (Internet Hate Machine, and another friend who's so bad at magic he doesnt even begin to count) were talking about what the coolest picture, on a creature card, is in our opinions.
So I'll see what you guys think, a few that we talked about in our just random naming decent cards where Cursed Ronin, Tarox Bladewing, and Tarmogoyf.

Survival of the Fittest and Oath of Druids are two of my favorite pictures, probably partially because whenever I see them I attach their images to "OMG busted green enchantments that win the game" ! But I think the art on them is pretty cool/memorable... w/e. Force of Will also, I'm not exactly sure what's going on in that picture, but it's badass; that guy clearly is not letting target spell resolve.

Damn, I totally had this awesome list of cool cards that I loved the artwork on, then caught the "Creature card" portion. Guess that just boils it down to two words:
Niv-Mizzet.
Not only is Kev Walker one of my top 3 favorites in Magic, but his work with dragons in particular is outstanding. If you look closely, in most of his work you can still see the sketch marks he paints over, or his "fade out" technique, yet you are never upset with either of those things, which some would just chalk up as laziness. And the mixture of a red and blue dragon to something being entirely it's own style, having only small details from both? Genius.

Vengeance from Portal 2. Its a little girl holding a gun, so cool that its one of the few Magic cards to show a real gun (shit like Goblin Sharpshooter doesnt count), plus it has a loli in it, which makes it so bonus

If you asked me off the top of my head who the worst artist in the history of Magic is, I would say RKF. There's no definition to any of his pieces and they're all just ugly. My favorite art on a creature card is interesting, since I rarely ever cast one, but I think I would be lying if I didn't say Psychatog.
Favorite other arts include: Stasis, Drew Tucker's High Tide, Tundra, Saga Brainstorm

Re: Sundering Titan.
Definitely anthropomorphic: two legs and arms; torso; head. It's right arm is some sick-ass looking scythe-thing (shadowed in the illustration); the left one is some crazy-ass drill. It's head is kinda beakish, with its eyes presumably being the large yellow-glowing areas. It's heavily armored which makes it a little confusing to look at. Otherwise, great art and scale.

Can someone please decribe the physiology of Sundering Titan to me? I really don't see a head/body or anything.The sholders are behind the leg joints, one arm has the awesome drill and the other appears to have a large blade. The head could be the the edge of the beak, like this;
http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb242/Sacul_Kamadaka/Titan-Beak.jpg
Or it could be something else, it's not so clear. The feat are somewhat clawed, the textured, unshaded foot shows it in the air, while the other shows the outline of a load bearing foot.

I believe they are blood related. Last I recall Ron Spencer and Terese Nielson are as well, they are either full or half siblings, something like that. But that also reminded me, I still think that Eternal Witness is one of those "damn hot even though she's fake" images.
Also, if you are honestly saying that RFK has no depth to his work, you obviously fail at art. His work is so ridiculously detailed that real life can't imitate the shades and dimensions he uses. It's like saying that about Rembrandt, Monet, or Van Gogh. It's just not true.

IMHO, Arabian Nights had some of my favorite art as well. Army of Allah, Pyramids, all of the Efreets and Djinns.
I loved pretty much everything up until (but not including) Fallen Empires. The art seemed to take a nosedive after The Dark... for some reason they started to incorporate overly detailed pieces that end up looking like an incoherent mess once shrunken down to card-size.

Just once, I want to see Rob Alexander and John Avon combine their talents to make a mural of the Magic basic lands. I think between the two of them, we'd get images that even the most awe inspiring areas of our own planet wouldn't be able to express. Or better yet, get them to make a mural of altered art dual lands.
I think I need to change my pants at that thought.

Wow, I never really noticed how awesome some of the art for old lands are. Seriously, these are the best pieces of work I've seen posted in this thread. Wow.

I'm going to put in my vote for Quinton Hoover though. The combination of bold lines and vibrant color schemes does it for me.

An-Havva Township (or whatever the hell it is) from Homelands has always been one I've liked. Good call.

Is one of my favorite cards ever. It's a leprechaun that turns things green.

A lot of Amy Weber's stuff is awesome. Also a good time: do a Google image search with "Safe Search" turned off. :)

This is the funniest picture, ever. It's not the best though, but it gives me flashbacks of that deck to beat that the guy from my class had.
Venom + Lure
Crushin' casual players' dreams since when... '94?
Just imagine, a poisnonous sword and a lure in a chin... Does that really make sense?
Ooooh, but then Taunting Elf was printed. Lure was crappy now tech. Kill all untapped creatures in turn 3? My monoblue fog bank deck was no more.

I am a big fan of Stronghold Assassin original art, where he has his thumb in his victim's eye socket up to the first knuckle.
