Ok I understand how this should work but want to make sure this is not broken.

The creatures in Shadowmoor have the ability to untap themselves and activate their abilities. With convoke can you tap/untap/tap/untap to pay the convoke ability and make your convoke creatures really cheep? My instinct is you can not but since this is a spells 'casting cost' of sorts it may fall into some sort of loophole. I figure I will ask the rules lawyers for clarity.

Nope. You pay the Shadowmoor card's ability's untap cost when you play that ability, and you can't play an ability while you are playing a Convoke spell (or any other spell).

The closest thing that exists in Magic is that you can pay the costs for a spell or ability in any order that you choose. So, if an ability had the cost "Q [i.e. Untap symbol], T [i.e. Tap symbol]", then it would essentially be free since you could play either cost first, and then pay the other one (assuming the creature does not have summoning sickness).

Mostly true, you are given a chance to play mana abilities when resolving a spell. Unfortunatly you must play any of these mana abilities before you tap creatures for convoke. So if a creature had a mana ability that had untap as a cost, you still couldn't go broken.

If you have Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro in play (the gal that makes all your Shamans tap for GG), and a Shaman with an ability that costs "1G, [Untap]", you could play that ability infinite times.

This is the same reason a Tinder Wall cannot pay for Sundering Vitae on its own.
