Sorry if my explanation was a little vague. Basically it works like this, 500 bucks WILL BE HANDED OUT to top 4 no matter how many people show. Any prize support for 5-8 depends on how many people show. We've been busting our chops to make sure its a great experience for everybody involved and if it is in our means to give prizes to more people, we will do it. Glad to see that people are as excited as I am.

Does anyone from those interested in Myriad's events or the organizers themselves attempt to talk to the organizers of Legacy tournaments? Unless I'm mistaken, quit your bitching and do something constructive. If no one tells us, we're not going to know. The onus is not on the Legacy community to check every date of every tournament in the area, and I'm saying this for the last time. The dates that are chosen are what they are. We're not actively trying to shun Vintage players, and you guys know that. We were glad to have Ray and the other vintage dudes at the last Pawtucket event, and would be glad to again. However, work with us a little bit and I'm sure a compromise can be made.

Well since this is the 2nd DHG MTG 500 it should get a lot more then 24 players anyways due to players at the last event spreading the word on how good the store was, etc. Also like Ebinsugewa said its not the owner who's planning a Legacy event to research T1 events that may be on the same day considering majority of the players who play legacy prefer legacy so it wouldn't matter really if 5 players that were at the last event didn't show sure it would help them get a little more money but I think 5 players is not worth rescheduling an event over besides Dave Feinstein is coming to this over T1.

A Vintage tourney should not affect this. There is only 4 - 5 weekends in a month. This is not the place for this. There are 4 formats and not enough weekends for everyone. Oh well, we have to make sacrifices. For me, I will be playing Legacy at DHG

In a more perfect world, store owners/TOs will post their tournaments well in advance & check relevant websites before doing so. That leads to the question, is the tournament posting for Vintage active on TMD? If so, could interested parties with connections to these store owners/TOs show them where the information lies &/or checks and passes on relevant information? That seems much more productive, for everyone, than pissing & moaning about format/tournament overlap.

I missed the original post about Myriad being the same day.

I don't see this is as being a big deal, but here's the Feinsteinian response:

DHG goes out of their way to please people. They moved the first tournament because it fell the same day as something else, but this time around I'm pretty sure the date is set in stone and I don't blame them.

The owners wanted to run one in April but they couldn't get a date where everyone could be there on the same day. The owners, the judge and the general manager (javi) all want to be there on the same day because this tournament means the world to them. Both of the owners have other full time jobs so it's tricky to get a date that works.

May 17th worked for them. They're posting it almost 6 weeks in advance. They're not out to rain on anyone's parade. If you choose to go to vintage over this, that's your right but you'll be missing out.

There's not alot I can say about Die-hard games that hasn't already been said. Their first tournament was fantastic, their second one will be better, and they are the best store I've ever been to. Period.

It'd be great to see Scott/Ray and other vintagey players there. I can see it being a tough choice for those who play both formats but the reality is you have vintage every single week and even if this was on another date there's a good chance it would still be up against a vintage tourney.

New England is the strongest area for vintage in the US. Legacy is the format that needs help growing. This is an amazing store holding a good tourney for a format that needs one.

Vintage will always be there. Legacy is trying to attain that status.

Hey guys, it's Jay one of the owners of DHG. I wanna start by apologizing for not getting on these boards after the first MTG 500. I really can't say enough about that day. Being newb store owners, it was really awesome to see all the people that showed considering how far some of them travelled. As someone who drives for a living, it was MUCH appreciated! The crowd was great, the tournament was smooth, to sum it up: you guys rule. Period end of story. Was never so happy to hand out $500 to people I never met before!

I want to comment on the whole "scheduling tournaments" thing. I think Dave summed it up almost perfectly on his post a couple of days ago, and Dave you know how much we appreciate everything you've done to help get us off the ground. You especially rule.

Anyone who has met us knows we're not jerks or people to step on other people's toes. We have a rock solid mantra of "doing the right thing" for us and for our customers. In the 2 short months we've been open, it has seemed to work for us. We strive to be respectful of everyone and everything, regardless of what "format" it is. What proves to be especially challenging for us is that we don't do the game store gig full time. James and I have full time jobs that require us to make sacrifices. Sometimes we have to work weekends, sometimes we have to travel to California(as is the case next week) and so on. We also have families and lives that require our attention. Out of state weddings to go to, girlfriends to hang out with etc. Without breaking out the violin, let's just say we're stretched pretty thin! Saturday May 17th, was absolutely, positively the only date in May we could choose. Due to commitments at work, we couldn't even have a 500 in April!:frown: That's not cool as far as we're concerned, as we are trying to pioneer the Legacy movement in RI. I'm not out to piss off Vintage players, I'm out to hold rock solid tournaments with bomb prize support for my customers, period. I can't worry about who's running tournaments on what day, simply because we have to do so much worrying as to whether certain dates work with our other schedules!

All in all, we need to do what is right for us while at the same time making every attempt to be accomodating to our TO bretheren. Unfortunately, someone has to lose out. I apologize deeply and sincerely to that group of people. Hopefully the feedback that these great bunch of guys have left on these boards will prove I am telling the truth.

That being said, to say I look forward to seeing everyone on the 17th would the understatement of all understatements!!

First off, Ebinsugewa has never T8ed anything in his life, let alone T4ed. He's the only person on our team who hasn't met the requirement for being on the team. I T4ed a DLD with ANGEL STOMPY, for Pete's sake (and that was LONG after it was good.) Heck, I T8ed with Truffle Shuffle.

34 people total in the tourny.

I went 4-0 then ID rounds 5 and 6 then lost in top 8 to Dave Feinstein's Elves. (sorry if i misspelled the last name)

There seemed to be atleast 5 or more survival decks, including my slivers.

I'm not sure if there was a third 4-0 but the one i was paired against round 5 was a life from the loam deck.

Beat goblins and dragon stompy today, but i dont think either of those is realy a positive matchup (goblins used to be untill goblin wierdling came about).

This dude has a TMDO playmat, and answers derisively 'no' when I ask if he posts on the source. Fuck him, that mouthbreathing T1 fuck. I beat the shit out of him.
Game 1 - I waste his Trops, and then get stuck on two land, but it's okay, because double Weirding and double Piledriver goes all the way.
Game 2 - He plays some Trinket Mages, fetching Sensei's Divining Top, which I Grip, and then kill the Trinket Mage, so he plays another and fetches SDT, so I kill the mage and beat him. I think he plays a Goyf, I forget, but I kill him handily. Also, he played Chrome Mox. What a loser.

Round 3 - Burn - technogeek's dad

He's clearly not very good at magic, and was handed straight burn by technogeek, as he was reading the cards as he played them.
Game 1 - I went broken on him, slipping through a Lackey and going double Warchief on his ass. In come the Jittes.
Game 2 - I get a double Jitte hand, with like a Piledriver or a Warchief or something, but I can't get Jitte active in time for him to burn me out w/ Flame Rift and Fireblast.
Game 3 - It's a war of attrition, he draws mostly lands, but is able to kill the critters I put out(he also rips Flamebreak off the top - nice). I get him to lethal next turn, rip a Jitte and play it, attackign with Lackey. It goes through,and I gain 4 life. Jitte is then killed by that 1R Shatter that also bolts me, and I am Fireblasted and Barbarian Ringed to 1 life, but he can't finish. He mentions afterwards that the Shatter was an instant, and he had it in hand all game long. He just fucked up playing it. I credit my cool fucking shades for the intimidation.

Game 4 - Affinity
Game 1 - I rip a whole bunch of awesome stuff off Ringleaders and Matrons, and get Wort active with Weirding in the yard, and beat down.
Game 2 - He plays Cranial Plating, Disciple, Vial, Worker, and Ornithopter, but Pyrokinesis whacks them all before his Myr Enforcer lands. He deals me a bunch of damage, then I beat him up very badly.

Game 5 - Hammafist Roob playing Mono Black Aggro

Game 3 - This time I AM low on land, but that's okay, because I go all the way against an Engineered Plague due to triple Piledriver and double Warren Weirding to clear the way.

Round 6 - ID with Rich Shay(Dreadstill)

I face against Hammafist Roob in the T8 again, but he has no chance - I have my sunglasses on, and he's totally fucked. He had to mull both games.
Game 1 - He mulls down to 6, I'm on the play. I play Lackey, Warchief, Piledriver, and back it up with Port. He's stuck on 1 land, and loses quickly.
Game 2 - He mulls to 6. His entire hand is discard, so he rips apart my hand as wel as he can, but I topdecked a Vial, and rode it all the way to victory. Also, EOT Matron into Wort off Vial is broken as fuck, and I easily cruise to victory.

Me, technogeek, Rich Shay, and Dave Feinstein split Top 4 - $125 in the bank. What the fuck kind of top 4 is that?

Being able to sneak into top 8 was nice... getting turn 2 garruk to make top 4 was even nicer :o

The field was extremely varied. Nice mix of stuff in t8 also.

Anyway, Survival is such an absolute beating. I played like crap all day and still managed 4-1-1, only losing to technogeek playing Aggro Loam. Massive hasty Goyf armies mercilessly overran helpless Thresh, Kavu Predator, Dragon Stompy, and Death & Taxes players all day. Round 4 though was more of a Genesis party in the pseudo-mirror that involved many a Shriekmaw and dying Goyf, resulting in a Game 1 draw. What fun. I played basically the same list that Jaynel has been tearing it up with recently, with a couple random SB changes because of card availability.

I was supposed to be running 4 Plagues, but was only able to get my hands on 3, so Tom (JanValentine00) graciously tossed me a Spore Frog to fill that last slot. There should probably also be Extirpates in there somewhere, but in lieu of that much better option, Offalsnout happily sat in my deckbox all day, never once coming in.

On a side note, I was a little displeased with the top-heavy prize payout of the tournament. Basically everywhere I've played, Top 8 guarantees that you at least break even for the day. With a hefty $20 entry fee, $15 store credit (not even cash) to 5th-8th just seems really underwhelming. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Why the belligerent attitude? I'm not sure I understand it. A Vintage player comes and shows up at a Legacy event. You react to this with scorn and derision. Does that seem like the best way to go about growing your format and you community?

A Waterbury playmatt and a lack of Source account is by no means reason to spew venom at someone. T00L (his name) was interested enough in Legacy to show up and play. He played something original and different from the rest of the field, something that he didn't netdeck. Did it work out for him? No. But you know, he came and he played and he was willing to give it a shot.

As long as you are hostile toward new arrivals giving your format a shot, then your format is not going to go anywhere. For myself, I'm a Vintage player. I'm a moderator on The Mana Drain and consider myself very much a part of that community. But I've gone to a few of the local Legacy events, and I've really enjoyed myself. The players have been polite and sporting. Roddy was an especially sporting opponent, and Rodney has taken the time to explain his great Dreadstill deck to me. And that's the sort of gesture and behavior that is needed to grow a format and a player base. That's the sort of sentiment that is going to be necessary for the health of the format going forward.

If Legacy players are getting upset at Vintage players just because they are more affiliated with The Mana Drain than with The Source, then Legacy is in trouble. We all enjoy playing with broken cards and having access to huge cardpools. There's no need at all for animosity.

I gotta agree with this. It's not like forums for Vintage or Legacy are necessary as far as the strategy aspects of the game are concerned. Tech is discovered as soon as someone gets a decklist for a large enough tournaments, and most people can put together a pretty simple checklist of what to expect by just keeping an eye on their metagames.

The major point of forums such as The Source and TMD are to build the community, and be great resources for players that actually enjoy being competitive. Even if anything you say is in jest, remember as far as the internet is concerned, sarcasm doesn't exist without a /sarcasm.

Being good in any format doesn't excuse you from being a douchebag to an outsider. The animosity between Legacy and Vintage players is laughable at best, both formats are nothing more than hobby formats as far as the stronger supported formats are concerned. Enjoy the fact that every tournament you have isn't running the risk of kicking you off the PT run, and enjoy the action in the meantime.

The maindeck was virtually perfect. I'm not sure there's anything I'd change. In the board, I never wished for Regrowth (and I'm not sure I've ever wished for it) and I Primal Command was pretty close to useless. Although I think it bought me a turn and a Tarmogoyf against Threshold.

I lost in the first round to Kavu Predator (well, really I lost to Force of Will and Pithing Needle.) Round 2 I won the mirror match. Round 3 I beat straight Burn (Spike Feeder is apparently really good in this match. Who knew?) Round 4 I beat Merfolk, although it was really close. Round 5 I beat Canadian Thresh in a tight three games (well, the first two were tight. In the third one he mulled to 5 and I pretty much destroyed him with trip Tarmogoyf. The highlight of this match was Cabal Therapy hitting double Spell Snare.) Round 6 I drew with Slivers, although that's a ridiculously good matchup for me. In the Top 8 I lost to Aggro Loam. I kind of got stomped on. Hard. I wasn't playing very well, but I think even with perfect play I would have lost that one.

Scott I 100% agree with you on how shitty the 5th-8th was and that was the only time I have ever been pissed off about a card game. I lost 3 games all day and got mana screwed in the top8 against Slay, o well.

We both acknowledged that he got shit out of luck in not only tiebreakers, but also with him being mana screwed and mulligan-screwed in both matches. And honestly it's not that far-fetched that his tiebreakers are so bad that not only would be be paired down against me, but if he scooped to me he might get paired down against a 3-1-1 and have to win out to make top 8. I don't have any grievances against him for not scooping to me, though I would have liked him to. He doesn't necessarily know that he could scoop and be in top 8, and I don't expect him to know tournament math well enough to ascertain it for sure, even if you knew it. Besides, he was a class act all the way through taking both of my lucky ass beatings, and I'd like to think I was the same to him.

I don't know what your problem was Saturday because you've been nothing but great as a judge, but to be honest I don't want to ever have to deal with you as a player again if you're going to keep acting the way you did at the tourney.

Since it already got brought up, I'll just echo it: You should've left when I asked you to leave my match. I felt you were being a disruptive spectator because you constantly got involved in my matches all day. When I politely ask you to leave when I'm playing for top 8 and you're distracting me you should leave.

The judge asked you to leave and then after you pleaded with him enough he changed his mind, which pissed me off to no end (anyone there can attest :p).

I'm definitely not perfect and have my moments of screw-ups, but you called a judge on me for cutting after my opponent tri-cuts. I mean that's just freaking ridiculous. You shouldn't be shocked after I ask you to leave, because all you're doing is disrupting us for the sake of disrupting us.

The worst was not leaving though. You upset a bunch of people and basically caused a scene, which unfortunately took focus away from me and Garrett on our match to determine who makes top 8.

But don't do it to the point where it gets annoying. I mean, seriously. This is turning into a game of advertisement where if someone wins they promote their deck (through the team name) and then they just snowball with it. It's seriously annoying. If you do consistently well, then people will recognize you and your team for your performance and character and not how much shit you talk on the internet. Trash-talking for fun is one thing. But insulting other people's intelligence and disrespecting them during the middle of a match is uncalled for.

Bottom line is: If you're asking for trouble at a tournament, you can book-dollar 3,700 people will hear about you and your shit the next day. And then, you've lost respect and no one will take you or your posts seriously. So why bother.
