I can definitely make this tournament since my Dad lives two minutes away from your store. Let me know if you sell singles there, becuase I may need to buy cards to complete a deck that I'll be playing.
I'll be there. Probably with 3-4 others.

They do sell singles and they have a lot of them, this store is the TITs if you haven't played a vintage tournament there you miss out
Will there be a deck name contest like at the vintage Events?

Hopefully we'll get a large showing at this event. This will mean that Myriad Games will hold one on a monthly basis. That would turn out to be a really good situation for me, since I will be able to easily commute to it.

I need to talk to the crooks running the GOV'T and see if they will lower the Gas prices. Besides, there is no real prize support, just store money. I don't think I am going to drive all that way to win and not find anything for my "Myriad Money" although they do have some good tasting mana I could eat. I will see if I can get coverage at my job because currently, that is worth more to me than playing cards.
Any chance of this changing? Sweet Christ.
Check it out: the entry is $25. The prizes listed for 24 people showing up are $300 IN STORE CREDIT. I'm not sure how good y'all are at math, but that means the store is taking $600 from the players and giving back $400 in credit.
You break even if you finish 5th-8th (except that now your cash is now "Myriad Dollars") and you triple your investment if you finish higher than that (except that your cash is now "Myriad Dollars") That doesn't even pay for gas money.
Thanks, but no thanks. I'll pass.

Evn, do you really do it just for the money? What ever happened to having a good time? I agree that the price is inflated though, $15 dollars sounds about right, if they ever decided to change it.

There are plenty of things that I can do to have a good time that don't cost $25. Going to a tournament in Hadley, for instance.
For anyone who hasn't been to a Vintage tournament at Myriad Games, I would just like to say that the tournaments are well run, the store is great, and they always get a bunch of people for every tournament, so it's usually a lot of fun. I recommend going.
That being said, I agree that the registration fee/prize support is a little suspect. It is what it is. If all you care about is prizes for Top 8, you could probably do better.
On a side note, however, this brings up an interesting philosophical question. If the majority of people who go to tournaments don't routinely make Top 8 (myself included), why do so many people take "injustices" in the prize support so personally? I think it's similar to why upper class tax increases are often not supported by people who are obviously not in the upper class. A lot of people think that 1) they are richer than they are, so the tax increases will affect them, or 2) they will be rich very soon, so the tax increases will affect them. The corollary here is obviously that 1) a lot of Vintage/Legacy players think they're better than they actually are, or 2) they think that this is the tournament where they are going to break into the Top 8 where they belong.

I usually make Top8 in tourneys, but I don't like the entry fee. Even if the entry fee was $10 I probably still wouldn't go, I like the store and all but I either 1) have something better to do on Sunday, or 2) have someone better to do on Sunday.

Yeah Sunday tournaments I just realized I can't attend especially in new hampshire no offense the store like i said is the TITS if it was on a Saturday and 15 entry fee id consider it, 25 is expensive for that prize support to drive from plymouth mass if you understand

Speaking for myself in this. Here are my factors:
When I went to Wareham it almost emptiesd my gas tank $40
Entry to the tourney $15
The cost for me was $55 to suck wind
It will cost more to go to Salem, NH

Due to the skyrocketing Gas prices I do not feel I can afford to drive X hours to a Magic Tourney unless I know what the prizes are. Store credit is not really a worthy prize.

Thank you to everyone who's posted. As with our regular Vintage tournaments, prizes scale based on attendance, so the more players the more prizes. The examples listed are for 24 players and scale up. We have a variety of prizes in addition to those for the Top 8. We will have Myriad Games Mana Cookies, a free Liar's Dice side event with prizes, and more. All new players will receive a Free Booster Pack. We strive to make our events fun for everyone, so if you're looking to play and enjoy yourself, we'll look forward to seeing everyone who would like to attend. We also have a Vintage event on Saturday, so you can make a weekend of it if you like. You may preregister by emailing Myriad@MyriadGames.com or calling Myriad Games at (603) 681-0355. All those who preregister will be entered in Bonus Preregistration Prize drawing for $25 of Myriad Money.

Guys, please go to this tournament. I talked to the store owner and he seemed like the nicest guy and is willing to up prize support. You should definitely catch this tournament, because it will be my first large tournament in like a year and a half. Thus the name Sleeping Dragon takes into effect.

No offense the store is great but the prize support isn't worth the gas to drive from plymouth, its like 3.50 a gallon with a SUV not happening and on a sunday, cool i drive down there like my car 60 gass estimate lil more or less plus 25 entry fee 85 dollars to get there and play, i win i get 300 dollars in store credit what do i really do with that i just lost 85 dollars not worth my time, only way id consider going is if it was cash prizes sorry to say just not worth my time

No offense Cav, this doesn't make it a big deal or a reason to go to the tournament. I think "Dragon" is way over the top, Sleeping Turtle seems more like it.

I'm a neophyte to the Legacy scene. But sofar as Vintage events go. Cash prizes are rare and far between. Often if you want "cash" as your prize, you have to expect a 60% return on your card value, that's outside of store prices. Magic tournaments, and competitive magic in general, are not sources of income. We (in Vintage at least) go to have fun, and have chances at some phat lewt. Myriad has higher entry for larger prizes to a larger array of people. You THINK the lower prizes for 1st-4th is bad, until you get 9th in a 30 person tournament and still walk away with a draft set, far more than any other tournament would give.
And honestly, this is normal prize support for such an entry. At Vintage events, Myriad always includes free side events for packs and store credit. A VERY high % of the entries goes the prizes. The same goes for any regularly maintained Vintage event for the past few years in New England.
Complaining about travel costs is honestly petty. Carpool. Split Gas costs. Friendships have more benefits than simply relieving loneliness.
Lastly, Myriad has any card in their stock you would want. If you don't want it, they'll order it for you. I've gotten all of my store credit from Myriad turned into Power 9 that they purchase for me. If you want Legacy stock cards, he can get it, assuming its not on hand. The benefit of winning "store credit" is your prize is anything you want and more! Tons of insane foils, format staples, not to mention enough boosters to gag a hippopotamus. Its really a Win Win Win. A great location, excellent locale, and organizer.

5/24 Hadley
Entry Cost: $10
Top 4 Store Cred: $305
5/17 DHG
Entry Cost: $20
Top 4 CASH payout: $500
5/10 Gateway
Entry Cost: $20
Top 4 CASH payout: $500
4/19 Hadley
Entry Cost: $10.00
Top 4 Store Cred: $350
4/12 Gateway
Entry Cost: $15.00
Top 4 Store Cred: $295
= Average Entry Cost: $15
= Average Top 4 Pay Out: $390 (2/5ths of the sample paying out in cash)
It is average Prize support for a $15 entry, not a $25 entry.

I wasn't saying anything about it being a source of income i was only stating for me and most of my team its not worth the drive there is really nothing we overall need and that credit could really get us for a total of 100 in entry, along with 65-70 in gas so total of 170 total spent for credit that we most likely would use on useless stuff, or stuff already owned none of us are hardcore vintage players so it wouldn't go towards p9. And if you look at it since most tournaments have a cash option as apposed to cards how often are the cards taken its how tournament organizers recycle prizes for future events and generally the prizes are worth more then the prize's given here for a lower entry fee.

Quite obviously as groups. The top 1-4 split will total [over] $300, the 5-8 split will total [over] $100. On a sliding scale, where those values are equal to 24 participants.

I can only imagine it bombed. For a large part of the NE this was to much out of the way for the prize support. Also it doesnt help that most people wont want to blow that amount of gas two days in a row after attending the RI tournament.
