View Full Version : Echoing Truth, Bridge, Slogger, Dredge...

So, I have a few of questions.
Question #1:
I have a narcomoeba in play and three bridge from belows as well as a cabal therapy in my grave yard. I sacrifice the narcomoeba to cabal therapy, targeting my opponent for echoing truth.
Can he respond by playing echoing truth on my tokens? I beleive that as soon as I play cabal therapy, the token-maker triggers and goes on top of the therapy right? So, he can let that resolve and then before therapy resolves, target my tokens with echoing truth.
Question #2:
If I dredge my entire library away, on my library-finishing dredge, do I lose the game, or do I not lose until my next turn when I can no longer draw?(We'll say i have three cards in my library and that I dredge for 6.)
Question #3:
With arc-slogger can you lose the game from removing all of your library, or can you not use its activated ability, because you are unable to pay the cost to activate it if you have less than ten cards in your library? If the latter is the case, are you allowed to count your remaining cards face-down in your library, or is this a violation of tournament rules?

When you go to draw a card, if there's nothing there, you lose when state based effects are checked.
Also note that you can't Dredge for a number higher then the number of cards in your library.

I believed so...Thank you for helping, but what about the counting cards in your library question?

I believe that you should be able to count them, because you know how many cards are in the deck, your hand, and you can count your graveyard. There is nothing "secret" about how many cards are left in your library. However, tell your opponent what you are doing before you just grab your library and start going through it.
Nothing official about that answer, though. If a judge has a problem with counting your library, count the graveyard and hand. That's always going to be a safer bet.
You can count your library at any time. You can also count your opponent's library. If he/she won't let you, you can call a judge to have them count it. Although the judge will probably simply tell your opponent to let you count their library. I'd have to have a really good reason to count someone's library for them.
Just don't do it to waste time. That's stalling, and is never fun.

May you also take note, that dredge requires you to dredge exactly the amount stated on the card, as it is a replacement effect, and it clearly states it on the cards.
ie, you cannot dredge grave troll with only 5 cards in library.

No one mentioned this for this question, but you make the choice of what card to name with Cabal Therapy as part of the spells resolution. Once you name "Echoing Truth" he has no chance to response by playing it. He can feel free to play it before the spell resolves.

Except you can't say "Cabal Therapy you naming Echoing Truth" to try and get out of it. Choices that would normally be made on resolution that you make on announcement are binding if there are no responses by an opponent to the spell.

Which makes me wonder, are they binding if he does respond?
In this case, if he casts an Echoing truth, would you be allowed to name something else on resolution?
I can imagine someone being an ass about such a thing.

It's kind of like an old Gamekeeper/Colossus situation where someone thought Cabal Therapy resolved first so it could knock out Swords before your Colossus came into play. It just doesn't work that way.

If you say, "Cabal Therapy naming Echoing Truth" and your opponent doesn't respond, you're stuck with Echoing Truth. If he responds with anything (in this case, by casting Echoing Truth) you are no longer bound to your original choice. You may name a different card upon resolution.

So if I say "Cabal Therapy naming Echoing Truth", my opponent casts Truth, it resolves and he then immideately reveals his hand- can I still name a different card, because it's my opponent's fault if he revealed his hand?

Yes.
