vial faeries did well in probably the most competetive store/meta in MN. i started 2-0-2, drawing to high tide reset(how does turn 4 combo draw??) and aggro loam which i think were good matchups for me post board, to get knocked out before top8 by another u/g vial faeries who went to 4th, losing to a like 20-80 mu against new meathooks deck. top prizes are beta dual, duals playset, forces playset, store credit

anyway i think this deck needs more examination as lists have been turning up on germagic and elsewhere i heard and theres so many engines to be had. im posting this because my last post had pretty much no feedback

U/G engine didnt use standstill/manlands and runs goyf, scryb sprites, jitte, pendlehaven (hot, id run it if i wasnt so addicted to assembly workers) and some board antics im sure

heres my mono u, adjustable sideboard for play/draw

4 mutavault
4 mishras factory
12 island
3 super lackey vial

3 sofi
1 sols

4 cloud of fairies
4 spellstutter sprite
2 looter il-kor/cephalid scout/erayo (threats son)/sea sprite (dont like Eplague targets)
4 ninja of the deep hours
2 sower of temptation

3 standstill
3 repeal
4 force of will
3 daze
2 misdirection (way underrated, aggro control loves this card. kill your dude. no, kill YOUR dude, my turn? swing with ninja =] )
2 spellsnare

sb:
1 standstill
1 spellsnare
1 aether vial
4 tormods crypt
the rest is metagame i guess, jitte seems good against aggro and other jittes which destroy fairys. propaganda and crypt roll bridge. worst matchup seems to be stompy or stax shell, could use energy flux even with anti synergy.

ive thought about boarding wasteland/stifle to wreck heavy fetch decks early. for example your typical thresh humpers with 1 basic. stifle can always find a use later if not to pitch to one of your 6 forces. also, stifle completely deals with storm and belcher. against stax, stifle mox and waste tomb seems pretty good. imagine their reaction when u wreck their mana base with 15 cspells mainboard

Cool concept, indeed, but I think that you need more tricks. The Vendilion Clique is too awesome not to be played.

Also, when your Vial wins you the game (almost), then WHY NOT PLAY 4???

I don't like the equipment either. It seems too slow. Brainstorm and 6 fetches (even 8) should do the job.

Isn't Ninja of the Deep Hours way too slow? I thought it could only do in Fish? Replace it for Vendilion Clique IMO.

Good luck with the deck ;P

Why not the following Cards:
Diamond or Chrome Mox
Ancient Tomb/City of Traitors
Scion of Oona
Bitterblo$$om
Chalice of the Void

I think various cards from Faerie Stompy and T2 Fae could make into a very interesting deck

why not just play blue skies, its a deck i'v been playing in legacy for a couple of years now. Hey i even played in a type 1 tournament with no power and made top four with my only loss being to oath. ill post my list soon.

this is my list that i play last night and went 3-1 with. it is based off of andy martin's list (aka the u/g one)

4 spellstuter sprite
4 cloud of faeries
4 goyf
2 vermilion clique
3 sower
4 ninja of the deep hours (aka the nuts)

3 daze
4 force
4 brainstorm

3 top
3 counterbalance
4 vial

4 wasteland
4 trop
4 polluted delta
3 flooded strand
3 island

sb
2 back to basic
2 echoing truth
3 tormad's crypt
4 hydroblast
2 jitte
2 krosan grip

andy had scryb sprites, pendelhaven, and jitte in the main. jitte is good but i like daze and the counterbalance suite. i forgot the pendelhaven. and scryb spites doesnt seem good to me (i may be wrong). tell me what u think.

A friend of mine played a pretty standard Standard Faeries list once in a Legacy event, only with Chrome Mox and Force of Will. He did pretty well, and like people said before me, Vendillon Clicque is too good to not be played.
He also played Jitte and Bitterblossom (wich cost him a match agains a Burning Zoo).
I'll check his list the next time he plays, it'll probably be a better Legacy list, with Daze, Brainstorm and such.

Personally I think Faeries has a very promising future in Legacy. Cheap counters, digging capabilities, efficient flash creatures etc. The only thing is that its curve is a little above the optimal, but I'm sure Mox and Aether Vial will do the trick.

goyf btw is the nuts in this deck. it saves u from plague and gives u a great clock.. also ninja has great interaction with all the faeries come inro play abilities.

Once you play faeries, you'll probably come to the same conclusion that I did, Vial isn't really needed. Vial on 2 + 2/3 lands = drop your team but with little/no card avantage to refill your hand, it ends up like a two turn eureka and with no hard counterspells, what do you really need the open mana for? The best three faeries have flash and the rest are cheap enough (besides sower) that it really doesn't make a huge difference.

Here is a semi-controling version I've played:
Creatures 22:
3 Vendilion Clique
4 Scion of Oona
3 Sower of Temptation
4 Spellstutter Sprite
4 Latchkey faerie
4 Cloud of faeries

Spells 12:
4 Force of will
4 Daze
4 Peppersmoke

Enchantments 4:
4 Bitterblossom

Lands 22:
4 Polluted Delta
4 Secluded Glen
8 Island
2 Swamp
4 Underground Sea

The peppersmoke may seem weak but cantrips with any creature out and kills random x/1's (dark confidant, eternal witness...). The beef is all 3/1 fliers (vendillion clique, oona's prowler, latchkey faerie) while there are still controling aspects (scion, bitterblossom, sower, force, daze). Bitterblossom is insane vs all decks not running deed and can win control matchups on it's own. The 3 and 4 drops also help to not auto-scoop to counter-top.

Why has nobody mentioned Mistbind Clique? It's such a house in the Standard UB Faeries that it seems like it could have a home here. I mean, a 4/4 flyer for 4 mana that comes down instant speed and Mana Shorts them seems decent.

Or do people think that 4cc is too high for the curve this deck is trying to achieve?

Also, Jitte + Bitterblossom seems pretty hot.

ya i tested a bit with him before mden, he got me game 3 with vial daze force into goyf/ninja. good games tho its such a fun deck to play with or against.

btw i mentioned all the cards he had in my original post

about the vial comment, yeah it seems like a win-more card but believe me its a total engine with 4x deep hours. it also lets you play standstill safer

heres the considerable facts of scryb sprites
pros
can block unlike cloud sprite, pendlehaven target, turn 1 or vial on turn 2 for spellstutter = 2, fairy =]
cons
not a force pitch xD

I've been working on a list since around the prerelease for lorwyn that seems fairly promising. I'll post a list as soon as I get the chance too.
My list ran the tombs, but it also ran some artifact lands and mox diamonds along with Thirst for Knowledge.
Mistbind Clique is definitely a good card to add. It's a 4/4 flyer that you play during an opponents upkeep and tap down all their lands.

Vial allows you to sneak in a goyf and gives you an uncounterable counter in the form of Spellstutter Sprite.

Maybe it's just something about vialing in a goyf that makes people feel like they're cheating.

yeah i thought it was too obvious to mention. activate vial? ok, ill put this counterspell into play. stifle is a 1 for 0 if they want to stop it

my bad, erayo could be good on side against force/daze decks

the cb build is solid, u should try running 1x rushing river, it works wonders for me against tombstalker and the like. plus i heard bouncing spellstutter to vial was pretty pro

remand has great synergy with tons of cards and so ive made this list... i cut the swords and looters for stronger cards

4 mutavault
4 mishras factory
12 island
3 vial

4 cloud of fairies
4 spellstutter sprite
4 ninja of the deep hours
2 sower of temptation

4 standstill
3 repeal
1 rushing river
4 force of will
4 daze
1 misdirection
4 remand
2 spellsnare

I've been toying with the list. And for me it's awesome to get T2 ninja active. So i removed the vials (which I think are weak when you only run a few actually vialable creatures.) and 1 rivers and added 4 cloud sprite.

the list posted right above here took me about 40 games(a few days) to lose a 2/3 on mws(got greedy against spanish inqui).

vial forces opponents into standstill and i havent had a game yet where it gets no targets and i lose cuz of it. the MUC version boasts so much card draw the creature count isnt even accurate. setting a vial to 4 scares the shit out of opponents to keeping their goyfs/stalkers in hand.
4 standstill
4 remand
3 repeal

once a ninja gets in, hes almost always online(ending the game) in this build. repeal + spellstutter + vial is untouchable as far as card advantage.

looking back on earlier comment about chalice, this card could definetly find a place in a stompyish build if you cut vials (or not =D). stops most removal to keep your fairy engine running

has any1 tested a lot of matches against tier 1 combo? im wondering if any side slots are needed against things like ichorid where half our counters can miss

haha, wakiki i played your friend last night on MWS i think from germany. he played the exact deck u describe and said his friend got it from TheSource ^^ he was my second loss in testing

Hey, that was me and i'm from the netherlands(thats the little thing on the left from germany:laugh: ).

I'm testing this deck now for a couple of days on mws and i really think its very strong. My build now has no vials because i dont think there needed. they make me a bit slower and standstill in this deck is great wihtout it too.

I've cutted the misdirections now too for +1daze, +1snare but umezawa's jitte can be good too in that slot. I didnt really like the misdirections, because i already had fow too, and had many situations where i didnt wanted to pitch that cards. And i like running more counters.

I played today against, ugr tempo thresh and 4c landstill and won them both with 2-0.

i will tell more testresults if i have them.

i read and heard that cloud doesnt untap thru vial?? what the lame. either way ive been testing the green splash and discovered it to fill the holes of mono U very well (goblins, large cost creatures). i keep 4 standstill but cut pendle haven and 1 factory to make room for a forest. heres the list (goyf is insane wow -_-)

I have played "Faeries" in the last two Legacy events I attended, one of them being 90 men GP Vienna Legacy side-event (or, as they are called now, public event). I was satisfied with the deck, although at Vienna i had to drop after 3rd round (with 1-1-1, all lost games being very close). Without further ado, here is the decklist as I would play it if I decided to run it at the next Legacy event:

Lands
4 Flooded Strand
3 Tropical Island
2 Island
4 Polluted Delta
3 Underground Sea

Creatures
4 Vendilion Clique
4 Spellstutter Sprite
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Dark Confidant

Spells
4 Force of Will
3 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Chrome Mox
4 Daze
4 Ponder
3 Umezawa's Jitte
2 Sword of Fire and Ice
2 Snuff Out
2 Stifle

... well, it plays only 8 faeries I know, but the look at your opponents face when you spellstutter his StP is just priceless.

You have the possibility of 1st turn DConfidant, or Jitte. Mostly Jitte looks really innocent without a creature - then one Spellstutter EOT, untap equip+swing=gg against many decks.

"Flash" is the most important thing to this deck, really. Many players tend to fall into the "I have to play Jitte to an empty board, I have no creatures poor me" trap, tap out and lose epically when you play flash creature eot and swing next turn FTW.

Vendillion Clique is pure condensed awesomness. I have seen opponents Stifle her cip ability and then StP her - that's one hell of a 2for1 CA if you ask me.

You may wonder why I play Ponder over Brainstorm, especially with those Chrome Moxes that one would love to late game shuffle back and draw something of greater importance - but, as you see, i play maindeck 3x SDT, and that's the reason. With SDT on the table Brainstorm has extremely poor synergy, whereas Ponder = shuffle effect = luv.

Sideboard contains a few copies of Counterbalance for sure, as well as 4x Engineered Plague - our 12 almost-no-toughness creatures are too easy to fall a prey to rampaging green men. The rest is up to you, I play 3 Krosan Grips and some EE...

Sorry for my poor grammar, I'm not from an English speaking country. Have fun with faeries! :)

/facepalm

Brainstorm has synergy with fetchlands. Brainstorm has synergy with keeping mana open to Stifle/Faerie/hardcast counters/hardcast Snuff Out during your opponent's turn. Brainstorm has synergy with SB Counterbalance. Brainstorm has synergy with desperately looking for your 2 Stifles while a Pernicious Deed is about to fistfuck your board position with a spiked Power Glove drenched in hot chili sauce.

Brainstorm has synergy with arguably the best card ever printed that is not T1-restricted, which is Brainstorm itself.

That it might be worse than Ponder in the chance that you have a) an active Top b) no fetchlands c) three bad cards on top of your library in no way, form, or shape compensates for the vast majority of times you will love having an instant cantrip in a deck featuring goddamned creatures with flash.

On an unrelated note, a non-Vial build running equipment should almost surely test Bitterblossom.

Do you really need those extra shuffle effects anyway? You already run 8 fetches (that fact alone means you need a very strong reason to not run brainstorm...something like having no blue sources in your deck). Also, don't forget that vendilion clique can be used as a shuffle effect for you if you're really in a tight spot and want to get rid of your extra mox/shuffle your top three away.

Brainstorm has ...Oh man, you surely opened my eyes, I didn't realize half of those points - this deck was created in the morning just before the side event started (I had some hard times to obtain those Spellstutter Sprites, it was an Extended GP) and I just put it together somehow (after a hard night etc etc - you know the drill ). Then the deck further evolved but I just didn't question my decision to run Ponder instead of Brainstorm. And I should have. *switching to Brainstorm immediately*

On an unrelated note, a non-Vial build running equipment should almost surely test Bitterblossom. This surely is an interesting idea - I'm going to provide a friend of mine with faeries deck for the next large Legacy event, and this seems exactly like idea he will like :) ... I always thought about BB as being too slow for Legacy, but with those equipments ... not so. Certainly a thing to try out during our next playtest session. Thanks!
