Humility + CITP Abilities

Does humility turn off eternal witness and other such come in to play abilities?

yes. Eternal witness' ability says, "when eternal witness comes into play, you may return a card from your graveyard to your hand." Humility makes all creatures 1/1's with no abilities. since E. Witness has to be in play in order for her ability to go onto the stack, and humility makes her not have an ability, she does nothing, and is merely an expensive 1/1.

There is a difference between "As ~this~ comes into play" and "When ~this~ comes into play" abilities. Humility stops the second but not the first.
