I'm just curious if anyone here played in the Legacy sideevent of GP Brussels. I know there were 71 players, but I would be interested in the Top8 decklists or at least a general overview about the meta. I've been able to watch some of the games, but as I was still in the main event I couldn't play there myself.

At least that main event got me my new User title: look here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgevent/gpbru08/welcome#8)

For everybody too lazy to click that link:
I beat Guillaume Wafo-Tapa using Reaper King in Draft so wizards declared me "The king of scarecrows" on their official coverage

I played in it with death and taxes, 3-2 drop since I had to go, it were 8rounds with no top8

don't know the precise top8 but it consisted of
-ugw ******** (this came in 1st or 2nd)
-br goblins
-standstill
-land.dec
-stax

as far as my memory goes^^

1st UGW Threshold
2nd RGB Goblins
3rd meathooks
4th 43 land
5th Tes
6th dragon stompy
7th Angel Staxx
8th ?

copy-paste ftw
It was indeed 8 rounds without top8. People weren't very happy with this, especially since the Legacy event finished 2 hours after pretty much everyone had left.
I was planning on entering but the side event started while I was still doing my judge exam.

Congratulations. Good luck in Berlin, hope you do well because it has got to suck to miss Top-8 on tie-breakers.

Thanks.

Actually I knew that even before drawing in round 15. I had only one bye, so my tiebreakers sucked majorly. However because of those tiebreakers, I would have fallen out of Top 16 with a loss and I didn't want to risk that as my deck pretty much sucked.

Also a 3-2-1 in draft playing 5 of those matches against French Uber-Pros (Nassif, Win, Antoine Ruel twice, 2 losses, Wafo-Tapa, Win, Levy, Draw) was absolutely okay for me especially as I didn't have a single SHM-SHM-SHM-draft before.

What bugs me more is the cut of the amateur-price, that would've been 1500$ more for being best Amateur...

Also thanks for the decks, I would've had a hard time there with Solidarity

I was 8th, playing Loambalance (http://mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8099&highlight=loambalance), without Confidants and with a white splash for 4x maindeck StP; they were amazing. I build the deck half an hour before the tournament, because I was busy with the main event before (had 3 byes but got a poor pool)

Small report:
Round 1 vs Countersliver with Wastes (3rd):

1st game I'm 1 turn too short to wipe the table with Deed.

2nd game I've got a nice hand with 2 Wastelands and 2 lands, I decide to denial his weak Thresh-like manabase. I don't know how he eventually found more mana sources than me, Wasting himself some of my lands, countering my Mox and playing a land every turn till the end. Shit happens.

0-1

Round 2 vs some RU Welder Control with Mindslavers

Easy games, thanks to Thoughtseize, Mana denial and SB Blue Blasts.

1-1

Round 3 vs some White-Black aggro deck (with Duress as only piece of disruption), easy wins thanks to my CA engine, after some huge fights of Swords to Plowshares.

2-1

Round 4 vs Ugb Landstill

First game, he plays successively 4 Standstills and Extirpate (maindeck) my Loams.

Second Game, I resolve Countertop and beat him, even though he had an early Extirpate for my Loams, I extirpate his Grips and eventually win.

Third game there's not a lot of time left, he's screwed so I try to win fast, but make some mistakes with my Thougthseizes and Countertop, which results in a kill 1 or 2 turns after 5 turns of time.

2-1-1

Round 5 vs White Stax

Slow start for him game 1, easy win. Screwed game 2.

3-1-1

Round 6 vs Mono Red Burn

I don't see any Swords to Plowshares, Counterbalance or Hydroblasts both game, so I lose.

3-2-1

Round 7 vs Mono Red Burn

Time for revenge: first game, I've got 2 6/6 Terravores on turn 4 and am able to Sword one to be out of reach.

Second game, a Goyf and a Swords are enough to be out of reach, he makes a mistake trying to kill my goyf but was 1 damage too short because of a Fanatic in his grave. I would have won anyway.

4-2-1

Round 8 vs TES

First game I keep a risky hand with first turn Mox, Brainstorm and I see no other land. I've got a Thoughtseize to slow him down, but he has got 3 Chants to Timewalk until he's able to kill me.

Second game I keep some risky hand again, playing 2 Moxen, a Wasteland and a Goyf first turn, with a Hydroblast in hand as only piece of disruption (having the advantage of him not knowing my deck). He tries an EtW for 10, I Blast a copy, then resolve Goyf and Terravore and finally beat him to death.

Third game I have to play Counterbalance on turn 2. He tries to combo while I have no mana left, and I reveal blindly a Terravore on top. I think it's over, but he plays Manamorphose and gets a bad card with it, so his only options are Etw for 12 or Returns. I assume he doesn't try Returns because of my 3cc card going to be shuffled for a better one. Unfortunately for him, I've an EE in my hand...

5-2-1

Interesting fact for Bryant  : there were 3 TES in the tournament, 1 finished Top8 defeating another TES (a friend with my list) in the last round. Each other finished Top16.

Just checking: you knew and applied the new ruling that says you don't lose your land, right? If you didn't, well, now you know for the next tournament.

I think the ruling isn't in effect yet. However, it might take players a long time to remember anyway.

It became in effect with release of Shadowmoor, I think, which was the day before. So it should've been applied.

The ruling was already in effect, and I knew it (the judge confirmed it to my opponent). But I also knew he had a Stifle in hand, waiting for my fetchland...

Hey, I was the one playing URb Slaver. :P

And yup, our match was a one-sided slaughter involving some giant trampling monster trampling all over my dead body and doing it again. Anyway, if I'd play that side-event to win, I wouldn't have played Slaverish.dec but Rgb Goblins. :)

Actually I got to draw like 2 FoWs on all the side-event, which kinda sucks while playing control. Anyway, the deck isn't really good (like, it's crap, utterly bad, to be honest) and I do something like 1-3 drop, after losing to a girl from the Netherlands playing Death & Taxes and owning me hardcore with a jitted Stonecloaker.

But, that was good times, and my drop early in the rounds give me time to actually look at the finals.

That GP was a blast. And kudos to the top8 of the side-event ! A friend of mine got 9th with Aluren, IIRC...

Are there decklists listed anywhere? That third place MeatHooks intrigues me (I wonder if it's the one with Wastelands from Elmi's report?).

Alright alright, I'm blind. Lists, though. Where are the lists?

Hehe frolll you're the second one I've played against in this tournament with who I already played on Mws/Legacy-France without figuring it during the tournament.

Pinder, I don't think anybody got the lists because the side event finished after the main event and I think they wanted us to leave ASAP (friends were waiting for me so that's what I did, maybe someone got them though). What I know about his list is that he played maindeck Wastelands, Stifles, Plated Slivers, Muscles (almost sure to have seen one or a trop) + the usual (Sinew, Crystalline, FoW, Daze, Brainstorm, Vial). Saw no other Cantrip or thing of interest.

I haven't found the decklists either. I don't think they will be posted.
Anyway, this was my list:
1x forest
1x plain
1x island
3x tropical island
3x tundra
4x windswept heath
4x flooded strand

4x nimble Mongoose
4x tarmogoyf
2x mystic Enforcer
2x trygon predator

4x brainstorm
3x sensei’s divining top
4x ponder
3x predict

3x counterbalance
4x force of will
3x daze

3x engineered explosives
4x swords to plowshares

Sideboard:
2 Krosan Grip
3 Pithing Needle
2 Mind Harness
2 Threads of disloyalty
3 Tormod’s Crypt
2 Hydroblast
1 Red elemental blast

I played (in that order):
1. White thres: 2-0
2. Suicide black: 2-0
3. Elves: 2-0
4. Ichorid: 2-0
5. Belcher: 2-1
6. TES: 2-0
7. Angel staxx: 2-0
8. Goblins: 0-2

I was lucky beating some of my worst match-ups...

How'd you do?
Got through first oral exam, floor test (judged 4 rounds of the GPT in a quite obvious purple "JUDGE" shirt) and 2nd oral exam, but my mentor and interviewer said that I best not make the written test, since there would be a 3 month downtime if I failed, which would mean that I could miss out on my next opportunity (Belgian nationals). My rules knowledge was sufficient, my knowledge of the penalty guidelines and how to handle problems during a game (never try to go back in time and such) wasn't good enough.

I have the contact information of the local judges and I should be trying again at Nationals or a short time before that, if the other judges think I'm ready.

Actually, if you see Kris play with the deck it's a lot more impressive. I haven't seen him participate in a tournament and not make top8, regardless of the deck he plays with, though it's usually a form of thresh.

I haven't seen him play, but winning 2-0 against White Stax and Ichorid is rather impressive. I'm sure maindeck Explosives and Trygon Predators were tech in this field, even though some luck is still needed for those match-ups as he said.

Congrats!
