I know blue is touted as the best color in the game but with the printing of Thoughtsieze has the balance shifted to black? Based on the key aspects of the game which color has the most to offer the format?
Disruption?
Spells-
Thoughtsieze meet Force of Will- answer most of anything
Daze meet Duress- situational power
Cabal therapy meet spell snare- metagame/knowledge power
hymn meet counterspell- just good
Blue has the advantage of being reactive wheras black just barges in and kicks over peoples plans. Black does not prevent topdecks and blue must always be ready for the worst
Resolved Stuff
Blue has bounce and control magic where black had destroy, kill, stab and maim. Black has more permanant answers but cannot handle artifacts or enchanments.
Little Dudes
Fish vs Suicide creatures
Bob vs Kai
Big Dudes
Tombstalker vs Morphling?
Power
Which would you rather be playing at any point in the game. I love blue but cannot find myself playing a deck that does not have black in it(I heart bitterblossom)
What do you guys think?
(sorry I just kind of stopped but I lost my writing momentum)

Give a clear definition of "best", then we'll talk. Otherwise this thread will just consist of words randomly thrown about.

Agreed. You really cannot compare colors like that since counterspells and discard spells are completely different.

You have to look at different elements other than Countermagic and Discard. Dark Ritual, one of the top 10 best black cards. It wasn't even mentioned in the opening post. Black has much better combo cards than blue. Blue has better control cards than black some could argue. Both suck at turning dudes sideways in my opinion.

Dude, that wasn't a serious reply.
If we were going to discuss it seriously, though, :u: IS 'better'/'more powerful' than :b: .......look at top8 decklists and compare # of cards that are blue vs. # of cards that are black. I say this as a big fan of :b: who knows that :u: is better.
People built a whole deck around Stifle, ferfuksake...
...but the good thing, from the "Health of Magic" perspective, is that you can use either, depending on what you want your deck to accomplish.

Blue has FoW, Black does not have it.
Also; I could argue that blue is also the better combo-color.
Really.
How many mono-black combos have you played?

Blue has much more in the department of card advantage. Thoughtseize and duress both trade 1 for 1, but something like counterbalance will give advantage, not to mention blue has better search (brainstorm, ponder) with less drawback than black.

Counters and discard are probably more like each other than any other major mechanics. Certainly there's less difference between Hymn and Counterspell than Bolt and Cspell, or a Counterspell and Wrath of God, or etc. etc. etc.

Win.
Thread closed. It's just going to go downhill from here.
@ OP. "Better" and "best," by definition, are relative terms. Without a deeper context and frame for debate, discussion is pointless.
