View Full Version : [Opportunity] Guest writing for SCG

As many of you are aware StarCityGames Unlocking Legacy column is written weekly by 4 writers. No one author can be an expert on all the decks and no one should expect them to be. But that's the biggest reason to have more guest writers. I'm hoping to bring more writers into the fold. While SCG likes to work with just a few authors, I know that if coordinated other people could possibly write for the column. I can't speak for the other writers, but I am more than willing to let people guest write for my slot on the rotation. In fact, I think this would improve the column in general.

So if you have an idea and would like to write for SCG, contact me and we can coordinate it.

EDIT - Don't worry I'm not trying to get out of writing the articles, but just suggesting a possibility. I don't know if anyone will be interested.

I'd be willing to write one on combo.

I admire that fact that you have faith in the diversity of the community, Anwar.

I would like to have a chance to write for the column, if possible. I'll contact you either by PM or AIM, but I am wondering what the range of possible topics is or what is allowed.

Sounds great. Drop me a pm about your detailed topic and we can discuss how to coordinate it with SCG.

How about writing an article together with a competent player?

I really liked your metagame breakdown with the matchup-matrix: http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/article/12455.html

A detailed analysis of the current metagame together with a guest-writer would be awesome!

I personally would love to see DIF or Adan write an article about, well, anything. The German Metagame (while that wouldn't be all that useful to the demographic and most likely useless to me personally, but I'm sure there's something to be learned in there somewhere), Threshold (although overused as a SCG topic), Landstill (though it has the same problem as threshold, but to a lesser degree), NQS (hasn't recieved much attention and had/ has potential), anything they could write on in detail would be a good read, in all honesty.

I might be interested in writing an article (or better yet, working with someone) on an article about all of the different Survival builds; there's RGBSA, GBrw, GBw, and about an infinite number of ways to actually build the deck.

Maybe work with someone and combine a few of the midgame decks like Rock, AggroLoam, and Survival?

I could write something about Dragon Stompy, but I'd rather find something more inspired.

I might be able to write something up about the "Tomb/Chalice/Mox/City" archetype as I have severe experience with Faerie, Dragon, and GargAngel, and mild experience with Demon and "Green" Stompy. Not sure how useful it would be, but I'll think about it.

This seems to be the most open-ended topic brought up so far. There are definitely a TON of Survival variations, and the article could be done in a way in which it focuses on Strategic Deckbuilding in order to be of use even to people who might not play Legacy. I'd be willing to work with you if we get the chance.

I would like to say that I would be willing to write a 4C Landstill article for StarCity, but I won't. The reality is that they're assclowns. I've got articles ready for publication, but they'll never see them.

I emailed their editor(s) last week to offer them some (hopefully) pretty dope articles I have coming up, and just get a canned response. They're not even worth working with or talking to, as far as I'm concerned. I've been a paying subscriber to their website for 2 years now I think. Most of their subscription only content sucks. Menendian and Chapin are the only writers worth reading on a regular basis. If I was a stockholder in a company, and new they weren't doing everything in their power to put out the best product I know I'd be pissed. By turning down good (free) writing, they're doing exactly that. I won't be renewing my subscription whenever this term is up.

Now that I have more time you can expect to see a regular flow of articles from me, about Vintage and Legacy, on MTG Salvation and MagicEternal going forward. But they definitely won't be on StarCity.

I could write about Ichorid if you want, or help you/someone else do it. Seriously, shoot me a PM or something if interested

Well, I've had every intention to write a Faerie Stompy-primer for close to two years now. Maybe I could do that?

I'd be happy to write an article about how to convert a person's PTQ decklist from last Extended season into a good legacy deck.

I'll write a dirty trousers primer if that would help. Which it would, seriously, people need to pick up this deck. I have like infinite store credit because of it. In the hostile NoVA meta none the less.

Now this is something a ton of people would probably read... and I... guess it's best to go for what will bring the most growth to Legacy.

I'd like to pitch in, but I won't be doing video casts for it unless it is for a prototype or covering an event with match coverage.

Reading someone else's writing should be very interesting indeed. Ya never know who might emerge from the cold. =)
