View Full Version : MWS Source Tournament (signups)
technogeek5000
06-12-2008, 05:30 PM
The tournament is going to start on Thursday, July 17th at 8 PM At GMT -5. I will take tournament registrations until 2 hours before.
So, as some of you may know, me and dynamite decided to help set up a MWS tourney for the source. I will be running the tournament and DeepfriedDynamite will be providing prize support (see below). This tournament is not going to commence for some time, due to the fact that Im going on vacation and it will be neraly impossible for me to try and run the tournament while doing so. The tournament most likely wont start until after the 14th of July but that also means that you can register at any time you would like between then. The official date that the tournament will start will be announced at a later time. The tournament has no player cap so the more, the merrier. To avoid disputes between matches, I strongly suggest that people save their game logs. If you do not, then there is no way for us to know what happened. Rounds will most likely last 3-5 days. This tournament will be swiss and cut to top8. To register, make a post telling me your deck code and any contact information. If you wish to change your deck code, you may do so only before the tournament starts. If you would like to donate prizes, PM me and we will discuss it. The more prize support, the merrier.

We have 59 people currently and that beats the attendance for the last source tournament.

Ditto.
I'm not going to post a deckcode now as I have not decided if I'm going to play yet (work can be a killer on things such as this).... but, since my magic comes few and far between (once a month at best) I might have to indulge myself.

So, after some debate, I have unfortunately come to the conclusion that it would not be ecomnomically viable to have prizes sent to Europe or anywhere off of North America. I am very sorry for anyone this incoveniences, but with shipping costs and insurance it pushes the cost of running this much, much higher. If you would still like to play then by all means go for it, but you will not be elligible to recieve prizes. Again, Im really sorry.
How long will registration be open? Or does registration end when you get back from vacation?
The tournament will start shortly after I get back. The official date has not been decided.

Update: Thanks alot to Sacearuse who has generously offered 20 assorted CE cards to the tournament.
No problem, I will send them out Monday so they can become an official prize. I may throw in some other stuff too, I will look when I get home... Good luck to every playing, this should be fun.
Are you sure about sending international? It's $0.90 w/o insurance and barely over $10 with.
Anyway, if you still refuse to ship to our non-american friends, I'll offer a judge foil Mishra's Factory to the top finishing player outside of North America.
technogeek5000
06-12-2008, 10:47 PM
I didnt say I was refusing to ship to Europe, its just that I did not know where to look so I used Fed-ex and it said it would cost 45$+ to almost any European country and nearly quadruple that for outside of europe (we have one person from Australia). Show me a link and Ill retract my statement (or would any post office do it? I honestly have no clue  )
suprafan386
06-12-2008, 11:13 PM
Its a hell of a lot cheaper shipping out of the us to other countries using the postal service.
All my dealings with trading and stuff overseas the price was always determined by the weight of the envelope with the cards in it when you go to the post office. Obviously soft sleeves would make the envelope lighter and therefore cheaper to send but it also has a high risk of bent or damaged cards.
Jaiminho
06-13-2008, 12:00 AM
Every time I bought stuff from eBay, the shipping cost wasn't over 4 dollars and it always arrived. In case the winner wants, may he pay the shipping value to receive the prize?
Anyways, I'm in. Deck code to be given in the future.

The rates I quoted are USPS rates. I've shipped dozens of eBay purchases internationally.

QFT...I have shipped things to other countries and had it be cheaper than shipping in the US...just look it up or go to your local post office and ask.

Truth. Shipping was always around 3-4 dollar, even the shipping cost from China and Singapur were the same.
3 dollar for registered airmail should be enough. Of course, shipping with insurance is a more expansive.
Anyways, count me in, sec-code will follow.

06-13-2008, 07:38 AM
You can participate no matter where you live. He even said that in the opening post(Edit: Sorry, he actually didn't. Still, just register if you can deal with playing at odd times). You just have to be able to deal with timezone differences.
Also, the way it's looking right now, shipping to a place outside the US won't be that big of a problem.
@Raider Bob: Don't worry. It will propbably be done with 48 hours per round, maybe a little more, maybe a little less.

Open up MWS. Load the deck you want to play. At the top, you'll see a tab called 'Tools' (by File, Edit, etc). Click it, and on the pull down menu is something called 'Get Deck Security Code'. Use that to get your deck's security code.

Just a couple of quick suggestions, if you're going to change your deck just edit you original post. I also think the everyone should post what time zone they're in, this will may make things easier once we start.
technogeek5000
06-16-2008, 06:25 PM
I actually like them making a new post because that way I dont have to go Looking through all the pages of the thread every few days. It makes it easier to update the first page when I can do it one person at a time. I do think it is a good Idea to post your time zone though.
Im -5

You may want to have rules, or something of that sort, just so you don't have to answer recurring questions like 'how long is a round again', or 'my opponent fell off the face of the earth, what do I do?' or 'the timezones just don't work out. Now what?'
You also might want to have something spelling out what happens to no-shows for a round.

Question: What's the deck code and where can I see it?
Open up MWS. Load the deck you want to play. At the top, you'll see a tab called 'Tools' (by File, Edit, etc). Click it, and on the pull down menu is something called 'Get Deck Security Code'. Use that to get your deck's security code.
Or just click "Test Deck in Solo mode" and the code is listed in the window that pops up.

No, if I allowed Eventide, I would get 35 more deck changes inless then 2 days and there would be way too many complaints from people who arent MWS savvy.
2. no, the code is just to make sure you dont switch decks. The patches wont make your decks illegal or anything.

With that last spike in attendance, we now have 59 people which gives us 2 more people then the last source tournament. I will now put up my Garruk Wildspeaker for prize support. Im looking forward to a excellent tournament.

Sorry, realized I was missing a somewhat important card, and that made me legitimize a couple other minor last second changes. :-P
Almost submitted another entirely different deck until I read the no-EVE post.
EDIT: Holy crap 60 people... awesome. I'm hoping were going more towards the 5 days than 3, I'll be out with a ladyfriend Thursday and gone camping for the weekend. (take note first round opponent)

It's not too important, but my timezone, as indicated in my previous post, is +8 (I live in China) and not -8 (The US ?). It might have impact later in the tournament, so I hope the opening post can be corrected. Thanks

It\'s not you. It might be better for everyone to use servers other than mwsplay.net, because it\'s pretty unreliable.

Are you going to restucture the prize payout for the Top 4/8 or are you going to keep it as it is now?
technogeek5000
07-17-2008, 05:26 PM
I think that it is fine as it is. Remember that this is the first of these tournaments to give a prize outside of first and the bigfirst prize is what makes the tournament worth it. Ill consider adding a third but I really dont see a need to do a top 4.

I found out that this was too late. My post on the next page explains this. Sorry for my screw up. I was told that it was 8:00 PM deadline and automatically assumed Eastern time. As a result, this change is invalid
