Question about the stack and resolving

If the opponent has a crypt out, and i have a putrid imp in play; and i play a exhume; they crack the crypt; i discard through the imp after crypt resolves; can they counter the exhume then?

Fair warning: if you play an Exhume you need to immediately (without passing priority) also discard the creature you want to reanimate, if it's not already in your graveyard. Otherwise priority is passed to your opponent, who can just do nothing and then Exhume will resolve without you having a second say in the matter.
