[Report] Intuition Control 2nd at Batcave on Aug 24

I call it Intuition Control (since it's different from ITF), but everyone at the tournament seemed to call it "It's Not Quite the Fear". (Also, "I Can't Believe It's Not the Fear" was mentioned too)

I took 2nd (I'm pretty sure I can thank frogboy's kindness in letting me draw into top8 instead of making me play it out for that) and walked away with a new playset of Tarmogoyfs.

Matchups:

Round1: Goblins 2-1 (1-0 | 2-1)
--G1: I punt game 1, lets get to sideboarding!
--G2: EPlague and BEB win the prize
--G3: I don't think I hit an EPlague but I BEB and StP a lot of dudes then I hardcast a couple shriekmaws and win the prize.

Round2: Scepter-Chant 2-1 (2-0 | 4-2) *Maverick676
--G1: This game took a while but I layed an early EE@2 to get his CB and Scepters. I throw down my own CB (top already in play) and we duke it out until I resolve a goyf and beat for the win.
--G2: I keep a 3-land 3-Grip hand but it doesn't go so well when he drops gratuitious amounts of Tarmogoyfs.
--G3: I keep a very solid hand and resolve an early Intuition for Stronghold/Loam/Gigapede. He ends up resolving a Scepter with Swords on it but Gigapede beats in for the shroudy win.

Round3: Survival 2-0 (3-0 | 6-2) *AngryTroll
*Our games should have been much much closer, he got terribly mana flooded both games.
--G1: Him=land, me=goyfs.... 'nuff said
--G2: Same as game 1, unfortunately for him. I believe I hardcast a LotV right before he drops Survival which stops some comboy goodness on his part.

Round4: Counter-Slivers 0-2 (3-1 | 6-4) *Volt [Stupid, getting paired down]
--G1: Well, needless to say, this is the one matchup that I wish I had Deeds instead of EPlagues in my board... I punt this game to Vial+Hibernation+Crystalline.
--G2: Very similar to game 1.

Round5: Max = ID (3-1-1 | 6-4-1)
*Again, I'd like to thank Frogboy for IDing with me, he could've played it out since even if he lost he was still in the top8. Aggro Loam was a matchup I didn't want to play.

Top8: Goblins 2-1 (4-1-1 | 8-5-1)
--G1: Punted again, no biggie though since my sideboard wins the game.
--G2: I keep a hand I should've thrown away 3x Fetch, 1x Top, 1x Plains, 1x Forest, 1x LftL. But, I top into 2x EPlague, so I drop 'em both and he scoops.
--G3: He gets a Lackey T1 and swings in and drops a seige-gang but then I drop a EPlague so... I keep him off of other stuff and hardcast a Shriekmaw and start beating in.

Top4: Goblins 2-1 (5-1-1 | 10-6-1)
*Same as above basically with the exception that the 2x EPlagues were in my hand instead of topped.

Top2: Burn 1-2 (5-2-1 | 11-8-1)
--G1: No CB, I should've mulled but his burn wins.
--G2: CB/Top... 'nuff said.
--G3: I kept a 6-card hand that I shouldn't have, it was 4 land, 1 LtfL, and 1 BEB. I figured I'd either draw into non-land and win the game or draw into land and lose... and I lost.


Props:
-Volt for putting us up in his place.
-Frogboy for IDing w/ me.
-Playing Mental Magic in the car makes 3hrs go not as bad.
-Make-Your-Own trivia on the way home.

Slops:
-Getting paired down against Counter-Slivers.
-My phone, for being out of batteries.
-Me being not 21... 3 more years, /sigh

Yeah, that was my thinking. He was going first and already kept a 7-card hand so I couldn't put myself too far behind and I couldn't risk a bad 5-card hand since then I'm basically stuck with it.

It does when they go to a bar...

In his defense, fake ID's from Washington look pretty terrible from what I've heard, and the bar near the Batcave does card immediately upon entering.

I'm still upset at myself for not realizing I should have killed off my second Piledriver to nuke your Goyfs via Therapy. In two more turns I would have ripped a Wasteland to take down the Stronghold, and after doing some mental math when Bret told me I had the game, it would have been much closer than I was thinking at the table.

The E. Plagues were also a complete surprise, good call on putting them into the sideboard. I figured since only 1-2 people had brought the deck in for the past tournaments that nobody would have put them back in again, sure as hell made game 2 a total surprise for me.

The game would have at least been closer if not gone in your favor if you had done that. I top decked the Stronghold so you had no idea that was coming, so it probably would've been the right play. But then again, who knows now since I would've gotten at least 1 goyf back and whatever else I top decked (too far back to remember what I did though).
