Hello everyone. I just read the 3 articles from Jandax. I really liked them ;).
There was one part that I didn't understand completely. The part about the lands under a blood moon. I mean I knew that artifact lands are still artifact mountains. Jandax wrote that non basic lands are non basic mountains and legendary lands are legendary mountains under a blood moon. So far so good.
I thought about the following situation. I have a blood moon and my opponent plays a Karakas. The Karakas is now a non basic legendary mountain right? What if he now plays a second Karakas? Now my opponent has 2 non basic legendary mountains. What about the legendary rule? Does he have to sac. one of the lands? Can someone please explain to me why or why not............
Thx :smile
Edit: What if my opponent has one Karakas and one Dark Depths. That would also mean that he has 2 non basic legendary mountains.
I'm confused ^^.
Blood moon only change the subtype, not the name.
If you have one karakas and one Dark Depth under blood moon you have 2 legendary non-basics mountains : one named karakas and one named Dark Depth. Hence no legendary rule.
But if you have two karakas (under blood moon or not) : you have two legendary permanents with the same name and you must choose one and put the other in your graveyard.
Basically, what you do with a Blood Moon in play is to see all non basic lands with a filter on, that says:
"Hey man! I only tap for red mana, that's my only goal in life!"
When I play against a player, not familiar with the effect that Blood Moon has on the game, I usually tell him/her, that you take a big magic marker and write Mountain on the lands.
Whats our gameplan vs elves? They are so fast that it seems our only winning play is a turn 1 Blood moon or if we combo within 3 turns. Alot of their decks seems to run alot of forest now so Blood moon is only effective against some builds. They have a ton of artifact killers. With a bounce elf in play, it terrible on our deck. Is this another of the decks that we just have to hope for the best and not bother about allocating our SB to?
@Spector - there are a lot of lists to look over for SB options in the last few pages of the thread. Jack (Capn Cook?) has a good starting point. Some people vary a little with the type of creature removal they are using (eg. I am using pyrokinesis now). There is also some variance with the combo hate. Most people use trinisphere, ethersworn Canonist and some other mana denial artifact. Others, such as myself, use leylines + ethersworn. You really have to play a lot and see what you like and what your metagame is. I am mostly playing online where there is a lot of burn and pox type decks, which is why I use the leylines. If the combo matchups were all omnitell, TEPS and Oops all spells, I would definitely be changing that.
@Tiago - I played with mindcensor a little. She is pretty good when you get her but she is usually a turn slow against elves, especially when you are trying to search her up with a recruiter. Not that great against other matchup other than denying fetches. If you really wanted to go more stompy with the deck along the mana denial plan, I could see cutting one moon and one or 2 other cards and fitting in 2-3 mindcensors to really go after other people's mana. If you really despise elves, this would allow you to possibly open up with one in your hand. So this could be an option for you. Otherwise, as a one of, she doesn't get there.
@oliverpool - elves for me is 60/40. I don't like cage because it partially shuts off our welders and, as Cab pointed out, isn't effective graveyard hate against Eldrazi triggers, etc.. We have decent hate, including your creature removal package (many recommend pyrokinesis or sudden demise in the board over firebolt specifically because of this matchup), bridges, Canonist (really underrated in this matchup), and moon effects. You just have to mulligan appropriately until you get some of your hate in your hand. I personally play one jitte in the main as well which helps, but I think it's coming out, as it's not good enough in most other matchups. By the way, I see you on MTGO in the practice room quite a bit. I would be happy to playtest with you some. I have a few legacy decks built online and could throw some different matchups at you (unfortunately no elves).
Thanks for the answer man.Since I'm now 2-3 months that I do not play longer with this deck I wanted to understand if there was some radical change but I see that in any case always depends metagame. I was intrigued by the Batterskull in the side, however, require the addition of some mystic accompaniment, right?
Yeah, I played with one stoneforge and one jitte main and one batterskull in the board. It would come against burn and miracles. It was good against burn if you could survive long enough to get it out. The nice thing is that they are constantly having to point their burn at jitte equipped creatures, the stoneforge or the batterskull instead of your face. It wasn't as good as I thought against miracles though so I ended up cutting it to fit the RIP/helm combo in against them. Helm has good splash effect against show and tell so I like it better. A few of the earlier players are still using the stoneforge package though I think, so maybe they can also comment on it.

Is your MTGO handle drude1 as well? The MTGO meta has changed somewhat. It seems like burn/Delver/Stoneforge/D&T decks has almost dissappeared. In recent weeks, I see elves, reanimator, S&T plus storm. It seems like the emphasis now is speed.
I do agree correct mulligan of hands is important vs elves. If they get wirewood down before we can do anything about it, it almost signals game over. As they will try to get reclamation sage through their various search engine(natural order or GSZ). Glimpse of Nature is also a whole lot of card advantage if they draw it early. Of course our hosers Blood moon and Magus can come in turn one and will mean game over for them probably 60-80% of the time if they do not have a forest. I do admit that recalling my games against them, I did not mulligan my hand when it did not consist of cards like Moon/Magus/Revoker or painter with blast. That is probably a key point why my record vs elves has not been as good as it could be.
After going a few 3-1 in the recent daily. I did pretty badly in the last 2 going 1-3. Most of the games were lost to elves and reanimators/S&T. There is a new version of reanimator that seems even faster with a instant reanimate for one turn with haste. That deck plays emurakul which means that game one is going to be tough to win. I am still trying to figure out how they prevent the shuffling effects. Going to go through those 2 games again.
Just checked. This reanimator deck cast entomb for a emurakul then before the shuffle effects goes off, he cast goryo's vengence to get it into play for one turn with haste.
The “new” reanimator you mentioned is actually not new at all, it is called Tin Fin and you can find the thread about it in this forum. It is a hybrid deck utilizing griselbrand as bargain, drawing a bunch of cards and storming into tendrils. This deck is not that stable and often loses to itself, just bring all the storm hate and graveyard hate against them. This mu is not easy but still manageable.
I played with tin fins many times. This is the first time I seen this version though. They cast entomb for a emurakul then before the shuffle effects goes off, he cast goryo's vengence to get it into play for one turn with haste. I guess there are quite a number of different reanimators decks around that I never saw the one with emurakul till now. Why is it called tin fins?
