Mauler should up your game against goyf, etc. :)
My biggest question is if anyone has noticed a difference when playing 19 lands (11 Mountains) vs. 18 lands (10 mountains)? It seems to make the deck a little more stable- i.e. you can mulligan a little better, etc. Thoughts?
I was thinking of dropping my 2 main board Jitte's and going with +1 Mountain and +1 Tauren Mauler. With that being said I haven't had a issue with getting mana, though I doubt that adding an extra mountain can do anything but make it more stable as you said.Quote:

I dont think the jittes are worth the maindeck spot anymore. True they can get you out of some situations sometimes, but other cards disrupt the opponent more, and if you do play vs jank you just need to get hellbent and bowl them over ASAP. Against jank(depending) assuming I won G1 I would just board out my 3spheres for 2 jitte, 2 powder keg or anything else in my board that would help that matchup.. 3sphere has its best effect against anything non combo turn 1. The deck empties hand very fast and often has in hand/topdecks something unneeded (second Trinisphere/Chalice, Mox/land/Simian after you have enough mana and/or need just more punch) so Raiders are 5/5 for :3: in this deck wich is very good. Raiders also help to enable Hellbent for Rakdos Pit Dragon (Bented dragon = awful lot of damage). And you still able to hardcast them (this is very rare situation, but 5/5 for 5 is not so bad)...
There are many reasons to play gathan raiders:
1. They can be played for 3, which usually means a second turn in dragon stompy. They fit very well the mana curve of this deck.
2. The discard hability enables you to achieve hellbent and usually you get rid of cards you really don't need, like a second trinisphere, a second city of traitors or a second anything.
3. It can be very easily a 5/5, specially when you see two of them and you discard 2 cards of your hand.
Gathan raiders is absolutely a 4 of in any dragon stompy list. I think everybody would agree.
One of the easily overlooked but powerful advantages of Raider is that it can be cast off of Colourless only, making some hands keepable that wouldn't have been otherwise.
Everyone's pretty much dead on Gathan Raiders. Gathan Raiders is, in my opinion, the single most important creature in the deck. It's one of the few cards that adds to the deck's consistency and power simultaneously.
Gathan Raiders is somewhat the god of Chalice Aggro decks. I run him in both Green and Black Chalice, as well, because when you get right down to it, he's a colorless threat.
EDIT: For everyone's amusement, I'm tinkering around with Greater Gargadon in the Mauler slot. Probably won't make the cut, but is surprisingly way better than I thought it would be.
The bad thing aobout Gargadon is that you'll probably have to sac 3sphere to get him in to play, and for him to get in to play in a deck with mox/SES/Raiders, guess that it takes a lot of time also.
By the time Gargadon's hitting play, Trinisphere has probably long since ceased to be useful. The fact that you -can- sacrifice Trinisphere makes it somewhat useful. Gargadon's kind of the opposite of Mauler, who you want to be the first guy on the board. Gargadon's the last guy on the board when your first wave got stopped.Quote:

The other thing Gargadon does is give you something to do with hands like Mountain, City, stuff, where leading with the City for tempo risks leaving you mana screwed. This way you can lead with Mountain, suspend, and at least be making progress towards curving out better.
How many gargadons are you running?
Two. Keep in mind I still think it's probably worse than Mauler. It's just not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

The thing I don't like about mauler is that it is the most anti synergistic card in the deck. All of our other cards either help us gain tempo or finish the game. The mauler sits around waiting for your opponent to do something. I haven't found the card that would fit better than him but mauler sticks out like a sore thumb in this deck.
The deal with Mauler is that the opponent has to find:
A) An anweser to your lock (moon, trini, CotV)
B) An anweser to Mauler
During this time, he grows preatty fast.
He is solid. Try it.

That's what I call a Straightfoward list. all 4 offs, exepc from the "flex slot" Gargadon.
but 8 moon effects+4trini+4CotV isn't too much?
Normally people play 6-7 Moon effects.
And don't come say to me is because you can sac them to Gargadon, because you only run 2.
I don't run the 4 ofs because I can sacrifice them to Gargadon. I'm trying out Gargadon because I run the 4 ofs. Gargadon's the effect, not the cause.Quote:

Mauler is the only creature in the deck that doesnt suck if it gets down before humility hits. That alone is a decent reason to run it.Quote:
