Re: TML Open 3 - Stratford, CT. - Nov 3, 4 2007
Congrats to Ewokslayer for being amazing at everything and everyone else for top 8ing and coming, it was a blast. 4-2 with U/W Landstill both days getting knocked out in the last round sucks, whatever.
Props:
Ray for running an incredibly smooth and fun tournament, and for throwing all kinds of prizes at everyone.
Ewokslayer for back-to-back Top 2s
Mr. Nightmare for bringing the party
Everyone I met or re-met this tourney
Academy Ruins for being BROKEN
Slops:
The Landstill Mirror.
David Gearhart's decks - you should be playing blue instants, not green permanents.
My team for scrubbing out.
Awesome tournament all around, hopefully more in the future.

Truth.
I think it might have something to do with the fact that everyone scheduled big events within months of each other.
What I envision happening is scaled down monthly events (equivalent to vintage power tournaments), with maybe 3-4 50+ turnout events per year.
This is correct. You have to remember that including travel and hotels and a $25-30 entry fee, people are throwing down ~$100 a tourney to go to these big ones. That's out of reach for a lot of people, and certainly drives attendance down more than anything else, especially when there's two tourneys in a relatively short timeframe and a person can only hit up one of those - each tourney is going to have half of those people show. The only part of Legacy that's dying is our bank accounts.

Fuck you.
Thanks to Ray and Gaming Etc. for allowing this to go down. Thanks to Slay for playing Gleemax so I could Void naming 1,000,000. Thanks to Aluren for having infinite game against my deck. Thanks to Lego and Slay for driving me. Thanks for the amenities after Day 1, Cuse and Virginia. Thanks to David Gearhart and Jesse Hatfield for not coming up with a better creature than Bosh, Iron Golem after we came up with him in Magic Scattergories. INTO THIN AIR!

Re: TML Open 3 - Stratford, CT. - Nov 3, 4 2007
Wow, so much bitching and moaning about what decks made Top 8.
If you wanted to help determine which decks won, you should have come to the tournament and played. Though I suppose bitching about a result is easier than attempting to affect those results.

Re: TML Open 3 - Stratford, CT. - Nov 3, 4 2007
Brian, did Primal Command work well for you? I guess its utility, but it seems pretty expensive to get rid of 1 permanent and/or their graveyard. Seems like you would want gy hate cheaper than 5cc. Let me know how it was, cuz it seems a bit clunky.

Re: TML Open 3 - Stratford, CT. - Nov 3, 4 2007
Counterbalance sucks my balls.
-
Re: TML Open 3 - Stratford, CT. - Nov 3, 4 2007
Counterballance was so key cuz it smahed thresh and alot of combo as well, also it helps against goyf sly and other burn decks, aluren also has some isues with it, so all in all that card is a champ.

Re: TML Open 3 - Stratford, CT. - Nov 3, 4 2007
Edit: I would also like to see the Cephalid Breakfast list that managed to power through all the Threshold and Fish decks that showed up. I'd also like to see Anwar's list, if he's kind enough to post it, since he whooped my ass with it.
-
Re: TML Open 3 - Stratford, CT. - Nov 3, 4 2007
I went day two with stax.
I lost to Matt from CT playing Cephalid Breakfast first round. Which is a good matchup but he hit me with Deed games 2 and 3.
Then I beat Alix playing his black thresh list with Sea Drakes. I easily took the games with Chalice/3Sphere unfairness.
I beat some dude that wasnt Bryant (again) playing TES. The lock pieces were far too much game one. Game two brings the Shatter Spree proof Glowrider in for the nail in the coffin.
Then I lost the rest of my games starting with Brian playing survival. He got early Magus both games and I had to wipe the board with Smokestack unable to rebuild before dying to an undercosted llurgoyf. Game two Im at one and he takes a counter off his Spike Feeder, puts it on his BoP and flies over for the win. Dying to BoP just ruined the rest of the day.
Then I lost to Thresh because of a stupid uncosted llurgoyf. And Landstill because its an awfull matchup.
It was still a fun tournament. The highlights were playing against Alix and Brian. Also meeting Machinus finally.
Its probably worth noting that if Ray made a price cut for playing both days (like Eli) more people from my team would've gone both days. Good job running it though.

Speaking of the DTB forum, now that White Thresh has failed to T8 again, are we going to do something about it having its own DTB Thread? It placed one deck in the T8 of eligible tournaments. If it has its own thread, why not UGb, or UG, or even UGrw?

Isn't it about time that Thesh turned into an ATB? UG, UGr, UGw, UGb, UGbr, etc etc etc. Its still practically the same deck all things considered. They have the same core elements in them.
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Nimble Mongoose
+0-4 additional creatures
4 Brainstorm
+8-12 additional cantrips
4 FoW
4 Daze
+1-4 additional counters
+0-8 removal/utility spells
+16-18 lands

Well... there's Black's Thoughtseize and pseudo-Swords to Plowshares, everybody's tendencies to run 7-12 burn cards in Red Thresh, and White having only Swords and Enforcer... and Teeg/Mage, I guess.

Can't this safely become 4 Ponder, +4-8 additional cantrips?

Sometimes they only run 3 Daze.

The Thoughtseize and Ghastly Demise fill the "0-8 Utility/Removal" slot. A lot of Red Thresh lists I've seen only run 4 Burn spells. And Teeg/Mage are usually in the board.
All that aside though, whatever happens, UGw does not deserve its own thread.

ehh... I guess... but personally, I think we need different threads for the popular variants of the deck though...

Re: TML Open 3 - Stratford, CT. - Nov 3, 4 2007
I think it is pretty lame to have seperate Thresh threads when Survival is doing awesome and has only one for all of the different colors (RGB, GWB, etc)

Re: TML Open 3 - Stratford, CT. - Nov 3, 4 2007
WTF does any of that have to do with the T8 for TMLO? Stay on topic.
