Thanks man!
Stock list with 4 therapy and 3 silence. Sideboard also stock with the 2 surgicals. Only boarded them in against AnT (fun fact: I grapeshooted my way into day2 in G3 against AnT.)
I don't know his name, but he was losing against reanimator and made a lot of suboptimal plays imho. I asked him why he took a line I thought was better, and he got all rude and shit (could've been frustration, I don't blame him). He played Echoing Truth which he boarded in against Reanimator and still had the Empty main after boarding.
There was a decent amount of Reanimator, but an absolute crapload of Dredge. So I'm pretty happy with the sideboard!

I definitely want to write a report, however playing the deck for so long takes up a lot of mental energy. I didn't make any notes because of that. Between rounds I had to clear my mind (and my bladder haha) and eat and drink a lot, so I didn't take notes then either. Today will be the same, I guess. But I definitely want to make a report because I faces some harsh matchups and went 'through the eye of the needle' a lot of times.

Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm
Congrats on your Day 2, Tom. Hope some other guys made it to day 2...
On a completely unrelated note, I played at a small local event today, where I experienced one of the weirdest games of Magic I've ever seen. I was against a less experienced Reanimator pilot who was just getting into the format (he was playing Watery Graves, Darkslick Shores). I was playing a stock list. After getting him the first game with turn 1 14 goblins + Therapy, he opens game 2 with Petal, Petal, Entomb for...Elesh Norn. He Reanimates it and passes. This is awkward, as I kept an ok 6 with only Xantid Swarm for protection. Probe shows his other cards are Pierce, Force, and Exhume. I durdle around a few turns, trying to get rid of his Force, while he draws cards that aren't lands and beats me for 4. I finally Probe, seeing Tidespout, Exhume, Pierce, Force, an Entomb, and a Petal. I draw a Therapy, strip the Force and see my only decent line is Telemin Performance. I hit Griselbrand and draw 7, going to 1. I hit triple land, double Xantid Swarm, and Silence. Great. I pass the turn with my 5/5 Griselbrand facing down his Elesh. He finally draws a Watery Grave, plays it untapped (going to 11) and Entombs for another Griselbrand. I draw City, swing for 5, going to 6, pass. Chant him on upkeep so he can't Exhume, he beats me back to 2. I draw for turn, and hit...Wish! I knock him down to 1, play my sixth land, Wish, pay for his Pierce, and Grapeshot him for 3.
Sometimes storming is hard. Sometimes you just have to beat your opponent up with a Baneslayer Angel, then finish them off with a Bolt.

@Tom
Sad u didnt make it.
I was the guy with long hair and piercings watching you day 2.
All the time you wasnt playing I was playing vintage side event (won a usea).
Was nice to see you play^^
Sad I could not convince the judge the thing with the chrome mox. But after the round I spoke to a judge and the thing is really hard. Some judges would have let u imprint other not.
Its a harsh decition.
Good result anyway!

So the issue with the Chrome Mox:
I play a Chrome Mox and my opponent responds to it by casting a Surgical Extraction on my Gitaxian Probe. Surgical Extraction resolves entirely and he gives me the OK. I tap my Chrome Mox while announcing Brainstorm. He calls a judge and I realise this huge punt.
I explain the situation to the judge and he gets another judge. In the meantime 2 other judges get around the table, not to help us, but for shits n giggles. After 5 minutes or so the judge comes back and said it is perceived as if I missed the trigger of the Chrome Mox and the Brainstorm is still in my hand. From that point on I can continue my turn. Immediately one of the watching judges pulls the judge away while telling us to wait for one more minute. After some minutes the judge returns and explains we can continue like the way he said before he got pulled away.
I asked out of curiosity if it was because of Brainstorm being an instant, and because I have another land in play the Chrome Mox trigger could still be perceived as if on the stack. This was exactly the case, but the deciding factor of the issue was that I tapped the Chrome Mox. Afterwards I thought to myself that tapping the Chrome Mox is also an illegal play, but whatever: I messed this one up, big time. EDIT: it isn't an illegal play to tap the Mox, so never mind :tongue:EDIT2: I could also tap the Chrome Mox while its trigger was still on the stack
Togores, I was wondering who was hovering around haha! I saw you making notes. Did you make notes about the game? If so, could you share them with me, because my memory is really bad. Also, huge congrats to your Vintage-succes and to Juan for his top100. Our match was a little awkward, but he got there haha!
I'll write the rest of the report this evening.

Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm
Won a bayou at a 19 man legacy event yesterday. MD was stock with 4 silence and 3 therapy with sb slots: 2 A-decay, 1 Chain of Vapor, 2 Pyroblast, 1 Cabal Therapy, 1 Trop, 3 Swarm.
Summary:
0-2 RUG Delver-G1 keep 7 against his 6. T1 Fetch, pass instead of casting brainstorm since I really need a land off the storm. I had knowledge of him being on a deck with 4 Bolts and Volcanic and guessed it was UWR delver. I was incorrect when he went wooded foothills pass. I get stifled and never do anything. G2 wasted out of the game.
2-0 Budget Hightide
I out play him with therapies and wishing for therapy was needed in g1. Thoughtseize could have done it. G2 He bricks on his tide after I took 1 and he immediate drew another. With him casting a meditate, I get to do whatever I want. At one point, he could have brainfreezed to attempt to mill my last remaining wish or ad naus, but doesn't do so before he is silenced.
2-1 Merfolk-He knows I'm on storm since he sat next to me last round. He mulls to 6 keeps a solid hand with waste. I lose game 1. Win games 2 due to him keeping a mono permission hand and I am able to cast swarm, get forced and later wish for therapy to seal the deal. Thoughtseize wouldn't have worked. G3 I make goblins and they win.
2-1 Merfolk- This guy is pretty soft just looking at him. I discover he is not playing wastelands and was chatting up how I was playing goblins and lost to RUG. I win game 1 with goblins. Game 2 he mulls to 5 and I am ready to go off on my t4 since my natural ad naus draw simply couldnt find mana. He topdecks an arcane lab which I couldn't played around with the silence I left in since I had both therapy and silence. I've never even seen that card in years though. G3 I bait his force with xantid and he doesnt take it. By not forcing the darkritual later, I am able to summon 12 goblins and take his cursecatcher on therapy flashback so I win the race.
2-0 Reanimator- My opponent has never played reanimator before today and I take advantage of it. My plan is to rite into wish for therapy but he forces my rite of flame on t2 since I'm on the play due to seeding. He eot entombs via a petal and grabs iona. He casts careful study on main and discard land grissel and pass. We play draw go for 2 turns when I know his hand is all lands due to therapy on exhume and I am able to storm off via wish for past in flames, crack 2x leds, flashback my 2 infernals for other to leds, cast rite and ad naus with 1 floating to win. G2 he forces my spare chrome mox which is the first spell I cast. He doesnt find the reanimation and is all lands again. I win the following turn.
2-1 Junk creatures. On the play again I make 18 goblins on t2 therapying knight and his spare deathrite leaving him with teeg/swords/karakas. I win. G2 he mulls to 6 and I gitprobe seeing a nice bob/gsz/mother/waste hand with his t1 deathrite. I therapy his gsz and he plays waste my land, bob. I am ready to win in 2 turns until he immediately topdecks thalia. G3 I keep a spicy hand with 2x leds, infernal, ponder, land, rite, and wish. I ponder into gitprobe and Ad naus and that's all she wrote.
2-0 Omni wish show/grissel.dec I am on the play and my opp mulls to 5. I gitprobe seeing 2x wish, city, fetch, preordain and know things could get bad very fast. I play land brainstorm with a pretty mediocre hand, but has wish for therapy. After I land wish for therapy, he declines to use one of his wishes on his t2 and leaves open UU. I therapy and take wishes and win shortly after my ad naus bricks and I have to pass turn and cantrip storm him out. G2 I know he isn't on leylines since I saw his board earlier in the day so I leave in most of the therapies. My hand has cantrips, dark rit, infernal and pyroblast and led so I keep. On turn 2 my plan is to to hold up fetch + trop and counter his show and tell for emrakul since I know his hand can do that with daze backup. He drew a brainstorm the turn before which I was unaware of and goes for the show. I pyroblast and he found double daze to resolve it through my pyroblast. I'm flustered, but shake it off. I put in gemstone and brainstorm on endstep. My hand contains a ponder, brainstorm, wish, rit, rite, infernal, petal and another land. Decline to keep wish in my hand and ponder into a shuffle which give me rite. I brainstorm and am able to get the storm together to win.
Pyroblast felt sweet and I like the 2. I wasn't in love with silence, but there's no way to both have therapy wishable and have 4 discard thats infernable for 2x in the md other than running a low 2 therapies. Alternatively, I could see going 2 silence, 3 therapy, 2 Seize to get what I want, but then it's questionable how good 2 silence actually is and double seize is really taxing.

Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm
What is your grief bout 3 Silence/4 Therapy? Have you taken down notes every time you wished that Silence was a discard Spell? Why it needs to be Therapy in the board?
-
Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm
I don't have a grief. Bryant has stressed enough on making burning wish as good as possible and to do that therapy must be in side. Whats your grief with wish?

Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm
Ok guys, I wrote a (small) tournament report covering the day 1 of Grand Prix Paris. It was a brainwashing day and when I got to bed that evening my brain was still rushing with thoughts. Because of that a lot of the matches, cards and order aren’t correct. I tried to figure out the game by going through my notes of life-totals and cards seen with discard/probes. So if anyone I played against (or who saw me play) has something to add, please contact me.
GP Paris
Round 1: MUD - Jonathan (France)
Jonathan was a really friendly guy and after some small talk we start the game.
Game1 I win the die roll and he starts of with a mull to 6. A first turn probe reveals Mishra’s Factory, Cavern of Souls, Wasteland, Ancient Tomb, Lightning Greaves and Grim Monolith. I draw an extra land and need the business spell more than my fetched land so I fetch and Ponder into the business. He wastes during his turn and in my turn I Ad Nauseam into Tendrils.
SB: +2 Abrupt Decay, +1 Chain of Vapor, +1 Thoughtseize, -1 Ponder, -3 Cabal Therapy.
Game2 I keep a hand with Silence, Probe, Ponder and mana (don’t remember but it was like land, land, petal, led). I figure if he doesn’t have the turn one hate-permanent I can stall him while seeing 6 cards and look for the kill or another delay like silence or discard. He has the turn one Thorn of Amethyst, and from there on he wins the game by putting another one into play and beating with Revoker on Chrome Mox, which I had in play.
SB: +1 Thoughtseize, -1 Ponder
Game3 I mulligan to 6 and have the Cabal Therapy, Probe, LED, Brainstorm, Chrome Mox, Petal. I should have mulliganed this, but I figured at the time I could pick his early hate and rely on the Brainstorm. I probe into a probe into a Thoughtseize and see he has Chalice, Ancient Tomb, 2x Revoker, 2x Kudoltha Forgemaster, Trinisphere and Grim Monolith. So I remove the Thoughtseize with Chrome Mox and Therapy his Chalice. Next turn he draws, says “sorry”, and drops a Tomb into Chalice@1. Tough beats. After that I can’t recover.
Games: 1-2
Matches: 0-1
Round 2: RUG Delver – Ralph (Brasil)
So I lost the first round to my worst match-up. Ah well, nothing you can do about that!
Ralph is another really friendly player and it’s too bad I have to Ad Nauseam him, first turn on the play. I went on with the Ad Nauseam after getting the right mana just to get some Probe or B+Therapy. It was a little foolish of him to let the Therapy resolve, however I got a peek at his nice foil artist-altered Strands among other shiny stuff.
SB: -1 Infernal Tutor, -1 Chrome Mox, +2 Pyroblast
Ralph fetches Volcanic Island and plays Ponder. He keeps and draws and passes the turn. I have a Burning Wish with a lot of mana and a Pyroblast. I Probe him seeing Delta, Foothills, 2x FoW, Rough/Tumble, Surgical Extraction. I could go for goblins but they would die to Rough/Tumble. A turn later I have the natural spellchain through Daze and FoW with a Silence if he uses his FoW or Surgical. I cast Silence after some sighing and act a little uncertain as if I hope he doesn’t play FoW. He does and I Pyroblast the FoW. After that I Tendrils him for 18, while he’s at 17 life.
Games: 3-2
Matches: 1-1
Round 3: BUG Delver – Roope (Finland)
I don’t know much about this match but in the first turn I probe him seeing Brainstorm, Daze and some beatsticks (Delver as third and last blue card) and removal. I cast Cabal Therapy to take the Brainstorm and next turn I can make 14 goblins through the Daze.
SB: -1 Empty the Warrens, +1 Pyroblast
He starts of with a turn1 Deathrite Shaman. I play a fetch and artifact mana. He plays a Delver of Secrets and Hymn to which I respond with brainstorm to set up my kill. I play a Burning Wish that gets the counterspell and he plays a Liliana while he flipped his Delver in his upkeep to Golgari Charm. In my turn he has just 1 card left in hand, the Charm, and I draw the Infernal Tutor to Ad Nauseam. Ad Nauseam gets there.
In testing this deck seemed 50/50 pre-board and much worse post-board. I’m glad I got through the eye of the needle.
Games: 5-2
Matches: 2-1
Round 4: UWR Delver – Chris (Germany)
Game 1 my starting hand isn’t that good, but it’s okay. He counters my Chrome Mox and cantrips, while his Delver and Stoneforge Mystic and later Batterskull beat me to death.
SB: -1 Infernal Tutor, -1 Ponder, -1 Chrome Mox, +2 Pyroblast, +1 Chain of Vapor
Game 2 I have a cantrip heavy hand and he puts Meddling Mage on Infernal Tutor. I don’t find what I need and can Burning wish for 8 goblins the whole time. I’m looking for at least another mana and a Silence to DimRet asap. He’s beating me to death with Delver and Meddling Mage (on Infernal Tutor) and Stoneforge. While I’m at 4 I have to Grapeshot his board (6 damage total), through a Spell Pierce. I know he still has FOW, Jitte and Batterskull while he has 3 lands in play. We draw go with me at 4 land and a Chrome Mox. He has the Delver after some draw go and I die.
This guy wasn’t too familiar with my deck and didn’t play optimal because of it. However he was funny as fuck and I enjoyed the match even though I lost it.
Games: 5-4
Matches: 2-2
Round 5: Geist with Flair (UWr Miracles with Geists and Standstills) – Johannes (Germany)
A well-dressed German fellow sits down and I put him on something blue immediately. He wins the roll and I draw a sick hand: 3 Dark Ritual, Underground Sea, Ad Nauseam, Lotus Petal and Gemstone Mine. He starts of with a flooded strand and passes. I draw Burning Wish and proceed to combo: Sea, Petal, tap Sea to cast Ritual(BBB), Ritual(BBBBB), Ritual (BBBBBBB), Ad Nauseam. This way I play around Pierce+Daze. However I could’ve also gone: Sea, Petal, Ritual(BBB), crack Petal for red and Burning Wish (BB) for Thoughtseize, Thoughtseize (B) your FOW/Pierce/Daze or let it get countered, Ritual(BBB), Ritual(BBBBB), Ad Nauseam.
So did he have the Force or Pierce+Daze? He FOWs and proceeds to take over the game with Snapcaster Mage and Vendilion Clique (taking Burning Wish) before I can assemble another comboturn.
I feel as shit as I came across 5 horrible matchups in one row. But that’s the price you pay for playing your pet-deck regardless of a hostile metagame.
SB: +2 Xantid Swarm, +2 Pyroblast, +2 Abrupt Decay, +1 Thoughtseize, -1 Empty the Warrens, -1 Infernal Tutor, -1 Chrome Mox, -2 Silence, -2 Cabal Therapy.
Game 2 he mulls to 6 and I start the game with a Gitaxian Probe revealing 2xFlusterstorm, Tundra, Brainstorm, Geist of Saint Traft and Pyroblast. I Cabal Therapy, he laughs and puts his Flusterstorms in the bin. I shake my head and announce Brainstorm to his surprise. He draws and plays Tundra go. In my turn I cast Xantid Swarm and pass the turn. He draws and passes back. I Ad Nauseam in my turn after an attack of the Xantid Swarm.
Game 3 I keep a possible turn 1 kill with Gitaxian Probe if I draw an extra Petal, Rite, Ritual or LED. He starts of with a Volcanic Island. I probe him and he reveals 2x Geist, Bolt, Standstill, Tundra and Clique. I proceed to kill him via Ad Nauseam.
Games: 7-5
Matches: 3-2
So it’s round 6 and I still have a shot at day2. This means I have to win 4 more rounds without a single loss. At this rate I’m enjoying the Grand Prix a lot and I think it’s already a successful day because I beat 3 hard matchups already. I made one obvious punt and some judgment calls that didn’t work out. Apart from that my play was pretty tight.
Round 6: Mono Red Sneak Attack – Ben (Italy)
In this round I got lucky, however it’s also not that bad of a matchup.
I’m on the play and Probe him seeing Sneak Attack, Worldspine Wurm, Simian Spirit Guide, Through the Breach, Inferno Titan, Sandstone Needle and Ancient Tomb. That is a turn2 kill so I decide to Silence him in the upkeep of his second turn. My third turn I Ad Nauseam which gets there.
SB: +2 Abrupt Decay, +1 Chain of Vapor, +1 Thoughtseize, - Empty the Warrens, -3 Cabal Therapy.
He has the mountain, I have the turn1 Ad Nauseam.
Games: 9-5
Matches: 4-2
Round 7: UWR Delver – Julien (France)
He starts of with a Flooded Strand. I Probe him seeing Stoneforge Mystic, 2x Force of Will, Spell Pierce, Brainstorm and Wasteland. I try to find enough Silences, Cabal Therapies and Burning Wishes. Mystic, Delver and Batterskull beat me to death while I try to work around his countermagic.
SB: -1 Infernal Tutor, -1 Chrome Mox, -1 Ponder, +2 Pyroblast, +1 Chain of Vapor
Game 2 I have a Pyroblast, Silence, cantrips, a couple of lands and a Burning Wish. I start with a fetch into Underground Sea and Ponder. He starts with Delver of Secrets of a fetch. I keep setting up a kill with Silence, but his Delver flips and I Pyroblast it to gain some extra time. Then he drops Ethersworn Canonist. I keep on looking for answers and the next turn he drops a Rest in Peace which limits my options. The next turn I find the Chain of Vapor but I don’t have the combo ready, because of Wastelands. I hope he plays something during his turn so I can bounce the Canonist end of turn (so he can’t counter it). He doesn’t play anything and I try to bounce it with the Chain of Vapor which catches a FOW.
At this rate I think my day2-dream will be crushed as I can’t get rid of the Canonist, unless…
In my draw-step I draw a Burning Wish! I’m now at 7 life and in my turn I cast it dodging Spell Pierce and Daze. He doesn’t Force and I get a Grapeshot before I pass the turn. He attacks me to 5 and in my turn I drop LED(1), Petal(2) and Grapeshot(3) his Canonist. He calls for a judge because he thinks the storm-copies are played. They aren’t and the judge agrees. It seems he has the Force of Will. Luckily he didn’t Force my Wish and luckily I played 2 artifacts already so there are 3 Grapeshots on the stack, targeting the Canonist. Canonist dies!
After that I cast Silence(4) which he FOWs(5), Brainstorm(6), LED(7), Infernal(8), Burning Wish(9), Tendrils for 20 while he’s at 18. Awesome!
Game 3 he starts of with Volcanic Island into Delver. I probe him revealing FOW, 2x Spell Pierce, Pyroblast and Meddling Mage. I Cabal Therapy his Spell Pierce because I don’t fear Meddling Mage at this point. His Delver doesn’t flip for a couple of turns, while he wastes my lands, but eventually his Delver does due to a Daze. In the meantime I manage to get my combo ready and make him use his Daze on a Burning Wish. The turn after that I can Silence him which he Forces(pitch True-Name Nemesis) and I create 16 goblins while he has Meddling Mage, Pyroblast and one unknown card. One goblin is sacrificed to Cabal Therapy to strip his Meddling Mage. He reveals his hand discarding two Meddling Mages. He keeps on hitting with his Delver putting me on two on his last turn. He Brainstorms and has to find the land+Bolt for the win. He doesn’t.
At this rate I’m super excited and am certain I will day 2. It’s still far away, but this was just incredible!
Games: 11-6
Matches: 5-2
Round 8 – Elves! – Clement (France)
We both keep our seven and he starts with a forest, to which my heart skips a beat. He follows up by playing a Green Suns Zenith. I have the Probe to see his Nettle Sentinel, 2x Elvish Visionary and 2x Gaea’s Cradle. I cast Ponder of a City of Brass to see I have the Ad Nauseam next turn. I also have the Silence and the Lotus Petal, but I don’t think he can combo out next turn. I play the Lotus Petal just in case.
He plays Visionary and Cradle into Visionary and passes the turn. I Ad Nauseam him into lethal Tendrils.
I figure he will board in 6 discard spells, a Gaddock Teeg, some Thorn of Amethyst or Mindbreak Trap.
SB: -1 Cabal Therapy +1 Thoughtseize
He mulls to 6 and starts of with Bayou into Deathrite Shaman. I have a Gitaxian Probe, Underground Sea, Brainstorm, Dark Ritual, 2x Silence and Ad Nauseam. I draw a Burning Wish and I probe him seeing 3x Cabal Therapy and Thorn of Amethyst. That’s a pretty scary hand. The probe gives me a Chrome Mox. After that I Brainstorm which finds a Ponder, Rite of Flame and LED. I put back LED and Ponder and play Chrome Mox imprinting Silence. In his upkeep I cast the second Silence and he passes the turn after drawing his card. I proceed to cast Ad Nauseam with one red floating, which gets there for a Tendrils of 32.
So the only thing that lasts is the win-and-in. I check up with the other dutch players and it seems like the half of the Dutch Legacy-scene will be competing for day 2 or is already qualified.
Games: 13-6
Matches: 6-2
Round 9: ANT - Piere (France)
During shuffling we have a little chat and before the game starts he says “Please don’t kill me on turn 1”. That is the specific paranoia I can relate to each non-blue discard deck, so I put him on Jund. Lucky for me I have the turn 1 Ad Nauseam on the play and he scoops when I Probe him. Funny enough during my comboing out he seems to know exactly what I’m doing which is in contrast with his “please don’t kill me on turn 1” that only inexperienced Jund players say time to time. During sideboarding I’m thinking what I would be up against and then it strikes me: he was trying to make me think he isn’t on a Storm deck himself. This is a guess, but I decide to go with this feeling.
SB: -1 Empty the Warrens, -1 Cabal Therapy, +2 Surgical Extraction
Game 2 he starts of with a Gitaxian Probe into Tropical Island and Ponder, keeps them, and passes the turn. Shit, I might have misread him unless he is setting up a Xantid Swarm protected kill. I draw a card and now have the turn1 Infernal Tutor into Ad Nauseam again. I Surgical his ponder and look at 2x Infernal Tutor, Lotus Petal, Dark Ritual, Ad Nauseam and LED. I proceed to Ad Nauseam and get stuck at 1 life with not enough initial manasources. I take his Dark Ritual, but in hindsight I should’ve picked his LED I guess, so he has to go of with AN and BBB floating from 18 life, and only if he draws extra mana. He gets a Brainstorm into Dark Ritual(BBB), LED, Infernal Tutor crack LED into Tendrils.
Game 3 I have the turn 2 Infernal Tutor into Ad Nauseam in my hand along with a Silence and a Chrome Mox. I need the Silence at this rate for my Mox in my combo turn. If I Silence him in his upkeep and I draw a Chrome Mox or land I can’t go off. He duresses me in his turn and at that point I realize I should’ve cast the Silence because the chance I draw a land or mox next turn isn’t that big. He takes the Silence and I draw a Ponder to make my own Mox Sapphire. I Ad Nauseam of 18 life and get stuck at 2 once again lacking mana. However, I have the Lotus Petal and the Silence for his turn and enough resources for a Past in Flames kill the next turn. So I play Petal. In his turn I Silence in upkeep to which he responds with Brainstorm and passes the turn. I start my turn with another Silence and a Grapeshot for exactly 18.
Games: 15-7
Matches: 7-2
Boom! Got there! In the end I explain my opponent I’m not an asshole but I just thought the Grapeshot kill was a beautiful way to end the day 1. He responds with “I understand, it’s just class”. Awesome guy. We had a small chat afterwards and after that I search my friends. It seems 4 out of 6 of us are in day 2 with X-2 and X-1-1.
Tops:
- My first day two
- Friendly and cool opponents
- The location was big and vented enough, facilities were great (clean toilets and all)
- Lejay signing my Doomsdays
- Meeting Jona, the German Grinding Station dude, and getting some new ideas and a fresh look on his deck
- 4 out of 6 of the team Day 2
- Pyroblast and Cabal Therapy
Slops:
- The meta being very hostile
- Parisian traffic and multiple streets with the same name + a retarded TomTom
- Little memory of the played matches
To be continued (because I’m tired now)

Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Stor
How is silence against BUG delver? swapping them for swarms would protect them from being discarded and enable cabal flashbacks in the case of golgari charm. while they can easily charm around silence. Im thinking -3 silence, -1 infernal tutor, +2 swarm, +2 Pyro. IF This turned out to be a better plan, it would be a good reason to play a third swarm in the board over a surgical since BUG is so popular.

IF This turned out to be a better plan, it would be a good reason to play a third swarm in the board over a surgical since BUG is so popular.
You board Pyroblast for their Delver and FoW only then. Don't do that. Their threats to you are Hymn and FoW. Against both Silence has some application unlike the Xantids which also die to Golgari charm itself and do shit if they tear your hand with Discard.
Hymn is so fucking strong atm that I run it in my ANT builds for disruption heavy metagames. Hymn + Therapy - Black: The Cardadvantage
P.S. Triple Hymn in a single combo turn off Cabal Ritual is mean ;)

Because of those Golgari Charms I think the goblins-plan post-board is a lost cause. Therefore you can board out the 4-drop and can board something in. I think Pyroblasting their cantrips and Delvers slown them down a lot and that's a good thing. However you can also board in the Thoughtseize. This matchup is really hard and at the GP I got lucky postboard.

Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm
Hey guys :) Long time lurker first time posting!
I picked up TES a while ago but since I don't play too often I still think I'm a newbie to the deck :)
I was at GP Paris too! Making a less than honorable 2-5 (or something I lost track, but I did win an 8 player pick-up that made me really happy ^.^ to beat esper thingie, maverick and ANT) I wanted to talk about a couple of things.
I'm using the maindeck list on the first page with a couple of changes:
1) -1 Empty the Warrens, +1 Tendrils of Agony. True-Name Nemesis put too many things running -1-1 effects and I haven't noticed much of a problem going main plan Tendrils or wishing for the goblins.
2) -1 Infernal Tutor, +1 Past in Flames. This was a last minute change the night before. While playtesting there were just too many times where 2 things happened: I either wanted to Wish for an Infernal Tutor or I wanted another engine than Ad Nauseam.
You'll forgive me if I didn't read through all the thread to check if this was brought up already, but I wanted to bring these up :)

1) How do you win with only 6 mana + Infernal against Discard or Hatebears without EtW MB? You simply can't.
2) You can still Infernal for Wish to grab an engine other than Ad Nauseam. This is an Ad Nauseam deck and cutting Infernal for a 4cc card like PIF is absurd in that regards. PIF is a miserable MB engine for TES as RoF doesn't push your mana development like Cabal Ritual does in ANT unlike you see 3 RoF in your graveyard as given
Other topic, folks:
Looks like miracles in back with full force ...

[Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm
Empty the Warrens seems almost useless the last couple of months due to -1/-1 cards thanks to tnn.
have you ever thought about 0 Empty 2 Ad Nauseam in the Main?
My friend Timo plays Ant with 2 Ad Nauseams for extra Speed and he is satisfied so far.

Does he run Burning ANT or does he also have Tendrils in the MD? That sounds extremely greedy.

[Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm
No it's Ant without Wish although he played a version with ant during gp ghent.
Tendrils is in the MD obviously.
Actually he plays 4 "Big" Spell,in particular 2 Ad Nauseam,1 Past in Flames 1 Tendrils
I always like to have Ad Nauseam in Hand when playing TES,it doesn't get spell snared and we just need 5 Mana (instead of 7) to go off.

I think he is implying no maindeck win condition. However, despite the rampage of -1/-1 sweepers being played, a singleton Empty the Warrens is still great against the non Team American tempo decks.
Also, the deck that is most likely to run Golgari Charms(that we care about) is the Team America decks. Sacrificing our other matchups for what is one of our worst matchups seems counterproductive.
Edit: Ninja'd, but I still think Empty needs to be in the maindeck.

Schünemann? He played 1 Ad Nauseam in Paris.
As you know, ANT Ad Nauseams are more used to refill your hand as they are easy to cast off more lands and ******** Cabal Rituals unlike in TES where you want to use the 5cc Spell to flip your library and 0cc artifacts over for a kill in the same turn asap. I've tested with 2 and with 3 AN in TES as I started playing the deck (like the Vintage BobNauseam decks did at that time) and was not satisfied by the result.
The moment EtW isn't an option in the metagame anymore turns the whole concept build around Cabal Therapy, Infernal and Wish for Goblins ad absurdum as I usually won half my games with Goblins at times. IF that's the case, ANT might be a wiser choice for a metagame with a shitload of -1/-1 effects (even if the deck focuses on the graveyard in times of RIP and DRS).
P.S.: I'm also fed up by uphill battles against good pilots on Esperblade or other dual-disruption (counter+hatebear/counter+discard) + sweeper decks. Burned out :/

Hi, TES players. Watch out for my GP tournament report with TES. Unfortunately, time is precious but I try to finish it soon. It was a great weekend in Paris.

Out of curiosity ... how long did you opt to keep this going?

Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm
I'll be playing TES for the first time at a big event in a few months this weekend in PA. Hopefully the metagame is full of fair decks.

Now do you believe me when I tell you that we should be playing 3 Thoughtseize instead of 3 Silence? All of the SBing plans of the aggro-control and control decks revolve around Vendilion Clique, Meddling Mage, Counterbalance, discard and Pyroclasm/-1-1 effects all of which Silence is worthless against.
UBW is a rough matchup, counters, discard, hate bears and Wasteland are a force to be reckoned with and it sounds like you just finally woke up and realized RUG wasn't running the format anymore.
-
Re: [Deck] T.E.S. - The EPIC Storm
Although thoughtseize looks pretty solid it's actually pretty bad to have 7 free-shocks in a deck which tries to fire off an ad nauseam deck.
(You are going to start ad nauseam from 〜13 most of the time after a single delver attack)

Thoughtseize does nothing against floated or topdecked hate in a format full of Brainstorm/Ponder/SDT which was my main reason to keep playing Silence as I mentioned many times before. Cards like Envelope/Spell Snare/Mindbreak Trap and especially a mix of common MB and SB counters in your opponents hand is nothing a single Thoughtseize can handle. Ever looked into a hand of Flusterstorm, Snare and Stifle?
UBW decks like Deathblade are indeed a horrible matchup. Thank God the deck is too expensive to see it every second match. It's not that the switch between Thoughtseize and Silence would matter here

I don't want to be subject to flames. And by the way: I could ask you the same.
I really don't want to have my favourite textmage against me in this forum. Let's stay on topic.
