Looks like a good day for this deck. 1st place in a big legacy event and multiple top 8 positions in TC decks. Looks like this deck is doing much better in Europe at the moment.
Just finished sixth place in a local tourney here in Finland also. There were only 19 players though. Hopefully we make a comeback at the decks to beat section soon. :)

First place at an event in Italy with 119 players.
Interesting is his use of arena instead of confidant with creature package (12 mystic, goyf, knight). No moxes/karakas/maze of ith/manlands either. 8 duals + 8 fetch + 4 wastes + 3 basics.
I'm not a big fan of the list. But I can see how arena does less damage and doesn't get countered by spell snare which is already a pretty big problem in lists with goyf/confidant/mystic/hymn.
So.. he is also replacing Dark Confidant with Phyrexian Arena and Ethersworn Cannonist in SB with Rule of Law? Seems funny, but considering we are low on threats and everyone and their Snapcasters run loads of removal, i guess he's got a point there.
I guess he wants the effects without dying to infinite removal. A legitimate option. I just feel like it's 2004 every time I play Phyrexian Arena :tongue:

Interesting list. Also, no SDT nor Sylvan library. Many differences from the core deck we are used to play with!
PS: just to clarify, there says the 119 players event was in Catalonia, so it took place in Spain, not in Italy (nothing important, maybe I just wanted to point it out because I'm Spanish :smile: ).

The Red Splash didn't really come into play, since I never drew any of my nut-cards against Stoneblade. I don't think 2 REB is worth it, so I'd probably stick 2 Extirpates in there. Maverick was pretty fun; Deathmark was the MVP of the tournament: funny looks, WTF's, and blowouts all around.
Ooze was super good in the Maverick matchup, I definitely wouldn't cut it. I tihnk the Red Splash is fine, but I'd almost rather (I mean, more testing is required, and I love Ancient Grudge) run 3 Krosan Grips and 3 Extirpates, instead of 2/2/2, especially in a meta with Reanimator. If no Reanimator, I'd definitely run 3 Grip 2 Grudge 1 Meta slot (Teeg).
TL:DR: Deathmark was the tits.

Sde_matt, you might want to cut the Windswept Heaths for the full set of Marsh Flats, especially since you seem to be leaning on the Badlands plan after sideboarding a fair amount of times. Flats doesn't get you basic Forest, but can find any dual in the deck still, so I think it's a bit more preferable to ensure you hit your colors. Imagine sitting on a Grudge with Bayou, Scrub, Plain, Maze etc in play, and drawing the Heath instead of the Flats, while they land Batterskull. Ouch. NOT a big deal by any stretch, very corner case, but improving the mana base is always something that can only help this deck. I see why you don't run the 4th Wasteland, and it's probably not uber-necessary right now, but I've always loved 4. Also, I ran 2 Bayou, 2 Scrub, 1 Savannah for awhile and got away with it, so you could always try cutting a dual somewhere.
Haven't played Junk in awhile, or Legacy in general actually, but I'm still on the train. Eventually I'll actually learn how to play RUG Tempo (have it mostly built), since I think it will teach me to play better. But Junk is always so much fun, and I will certainly sleeve it up again someday soon.
Also, you always go with the Smooth Drink over the Expensive Lady. At least I do. :wink:

In the land of the Spell Snare the one eyed Arena is king.
The only thing I'm worried about is that on Turn 3, I want to be playing Knight, ideally. Plus, then Stoneblade 8-12 Swords actually get everyone, even more so, if we run less creatures.

It's interesting, don't get me wrong, I just love playing 1 CMC removal though now that MM is banned. But, I still find the list interesting, and very much like Aggro Loam. But, I see a problem there as well: if you're not on a Mox Diamond hand, you're behind.
PS: I tend to quote my signature a decent amount, especially in restaurants when the waitress can overhear. Then I ask for the 12-year Scotch. It's great.

What I'm really pondering is, I'm really shoehorning in the light red Splash for Ancient Grudge, either as a 1 or a 2-of. My real question, would it be better to just go with the first option (3 Grips) or 2 Grip 2 Grudge? This also has a bit to do with the fact I lose an Extirpate, so that would be meta dependent, but this decision is more to do with my Stoneblade boarding plan.

MY real thing is, I keep playing against the local Stoneblade player, and he's the only guy I continually lose to, week after week. He usually just has more bombs than I do, or goes nuts with SoFF and I can't stop it. My usual boarding plan with the current decklist is:
-3 Inquisition of Kozilek
-1 Scavenging Ooze
-1 Dark Confidant
-1 Random
+2 Ancient Grudge
+2 Krosan Grip
+2 Thrun, the Last Troll
Now, I didn't see any of the cards I sided in last week, and thus, I didn't do much and lost. But, am I even boarding correctly? I'm just wondering if I should be keeping in as much discard as possible (when I still played Hymns, those came out).
Should I actually be doing something like -2 Birds, -1 Dark Confidant, -1 Ooze, -1 Inquisition for +3 Krosan Grip +2 Thrun, the Last Troll. It leaves in more discard, and I don't really have to worry as much about staying on colour (since, most of the time anyway, Birds die to removal).
I mean, all of my cards are great in general against Stoneblade, but my question to you all is, would it be easier/better to just run Grips and not bother with Grudge (maybe as a 1-of instead of the third Grip, but at that point, is it even worth it?). Grip is more easily castable (no need for Birds/Badlands), and allows me to cut a weaker card in a more grindy matchup (instead of cutting possibly crucial discard).
My point: If I cut the worst card, Birds, I have to cut one of the best card to bring in, Grudge. I know the "answer" to this is run Mox Diamond, but again, we're back in the arena of cutting other actual good cards instead of just manadorks.
Thoughts? I'm almost inclined to alter the manabase to 3 Marsh Flats, and run a 1-of Grudge instead of the third Grip, as a sort of intermediate measure. I'd still cut the Birds during boarding, but with only a singleton Badlands, it should be fine, as I can always fetch it.
Then, my board would look like:

2 Krosan Grip
3 Extirpate
2 Path to Exile (I'm wondering if this could also be Deathmark or Ghastly, but I heart Path since it's better generally, but Ghastly/Mark would mean I could bring it in against Blade and Maverick)

Matt, Cut the Inquisitions when you're boarding. Leave the others in. Just beware of actually using them on turn 1. Play as though they're three drops (or at least after they get to 2 mana) and you'll usually nab an equipment. (Why not 4 Thoughtseize? Why the Duress?)
Keep the Bob in, the card advantage will be better for you while your opp searches for removal. Either way, even if it's a small body, it's a body. It can win the game for you 2 damage at a time.
Ooze and a Deathmark can come out. Yes, I know it kills SFM but it's not that good against a deck that only really plays 1 white creature (as a 4 of) and the creature is meant as a win-con tutor. It's better to steal from the tutor than to kill it. It's typical of a counter player to let the tutor resolve if they can deal with the tutored aspect.
Lastly, if the removal and sword are what's beating you, try and Elspeth over a Grip (1... I'd say two if wanted to find room for another). you can't tutor it, and it's something that can get countered, but it'll win the game if it hits.
So, I'm suggesting SB option 1 with a slight change.
-1 Krosan Grip
+1 Elspeth
and boarding plans of:

-3 Inquisition
-2 Deathmark
+2 Krosan Grip
+2 Pernicious Deed

your CMC goes up but your deck should be fine with that as they'll five you time. You're running more lands due to the lack of diamond and you should be able to take out the Sword a little better (and protect Elspeth a little better) with the deed than the Thrun.
If you want the Thrun in, I'd suggest cutting 1 Zenith and 1 Goyf for them. You'd rather have a real creature than the Zenith and you'll have the ability to keep pressure on. If you want to keep the Zenith route, I'd suggest Accetic>Thrun as your opponent will almost always assume it's Knight and you can take the game over from there. it's probably right to have 1 Troll>Thrun just because you have 2 and options are better than no options when you do have a Zenith.

we have been testing it for 3 weeks and we are having great results (he is a very good rock pilot). In particular, what has been great so far are:
- 3 ooze
- the remouval package : [4 stp + 2 e.e. + 3 vindicate]
engineered explosives are great vs delvers and very often we use it as additional remouvals to opponents' jaces (we run mox)
as for the manabase is concerned:
I cut the basic plains because of three reasons:
1) I already have one land (karakas) which gives me just white mana
2) I have mox, so I little suffer opponents' denial
3) I wanted to encrease the number of horizon canopies
in the side we have:
3 grave hate slot
3 duress
2 Chains of Mephistopheles
2 timely rienforcements
2 massacre
3 open slot
I'm thinking about this possible change:
- 1 scrubland
- 2 qasali
+ 1 elspeth
+ 1 horizon canopy (up to 3 total)
