I wonder how long it's going to take until we'll see another price spike for fetchlands, considering how Aaron Forsythe recently said that it's going to take a while to reprint them.

The only thing that "takes a while" is them thinking about if killing Legacy isn't more profitable than reprinting stuff so people swap to modern, a format where they can Reprint any staple without touching the reserved list. Sure Fetches have some overlap with Modern, but that's the tradeoff.
They can Reprint Fetches and other Legacy staples at will, but refuse to and it's open to your imagination why cards like FoW never saw a reprint

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
Today i was about to buy a top-tier, hand-made longbow and a hand-made leather quiver.
I was shocked to acknowledge that the price was lower than a Legacy deck.
-
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
They can modify the reserved list at will. They can abolish the reserved list at will. Thus they can reprint anything at will. They can declare that CE/IE and gold bordered cards are legal for Vintage / Legacy play (given double sided cards i'm not sure what the hold up is).

But we agree that silver bordered cards should not be legal for Vintage nor Legacy, correct?

ill rather be a planeswalker than play robinhood.
also, i believe bows can be found in roughly the same pricerange as a legacydeck (50 to infinite Price)

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
I'm not exactly "playing robin hood" cause i practice marksmanship as a legitimate sport. Hell it's even featured in the olympics. But i'm not here to quench my flaming offended butt :(
What i was trying to point out is that MTG turned into a luxury hobby, and not one of the cheapest ones. When you are comparing something made carefully over several months by an artisan to a mass-printed piece of cardboard, and you find out that the latter is the more expensive it's easy to notice that the train has derailed.

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
I think I've decided to sell one of my extra Legacy decks and move into a less expensive hobby that I've always wanted to try - owning and operating a Formula 1 Team.
Or, maybe I'll fund a private search for the missing Malaysian Airliner.

I started archery training years ago, but as I'm left-handed, there were some trouble with stuff so I quit. But I think it's a beautiful sport.
Edit: it was in times when LotR went to cinemas, so there were hordes of people who thoguth that I started because of Legolas...
Obv. I make my decisions by the Hollywood movies, sure thing, no question...

Start a vineyard/winery. At least the land should hold onto its value.

If you had any spare money lying, I would probably invest into Underground Seas. Even I'm tempted to do it. The current rate at which prices increase is ridiculous. 500$ USeas in July/August doesn't sound too unlikely.

I'm no expert on that kind of thing, but how realistic could that be?
Didn't we already establish a while ago that stuff like Tarmogoyf is worth more per ounce than gold?

As I read this I had to glance above my screen, annoyed, at the beta copy pinned to my wall... In all seriousness are any Magic collectors rational? Chas Andres quoted someone or said a few months back that the time to sell magic cards is 'never'. Is this the one idiot proof collectible market or are we going to finally see a correction and some much needed sanity in the future? I worry a bit about you guys talking about buying up U.Seas in quantity but that's my problem I guess... It certainly would seem that everyone NOT buying them on credit are complete fools.

The main problem about the entire ordeal is that it's basically like a stock market, except there isn't anybody who regulates it and prices on RL staples are guaranteed to rise.
The only ways I could see the entire thing crashing (aside from Magic dying) is either SCG dropping the Legacy Open or the Chinese stepping up their game in terms of quality fakes.

I have a goyf. You buy 1 stock (out of 100) priced at 1$. Goyf prices go up. You earn more money.
Just like gold

Every card worth more than $90 is worth more than its weight in gold.

When Deathrite was banned in modern he shot up to 40, but has been slowly trending downwards since. Probably simply because the Modern PT Happened and that created hype for the format, which led to a spike in fetches, snap casters, Goyfs and all that good stuff. However in the wake of that tourney there hasnt been much else and everything is trending downwards. It seems that the format isn't quite popular enough outside of its season to really keep driving the prices up like in legacy. I'm sure come Modern PTQ season Snapcaster will be a 40 dollar card, and every fetch land will see a 20-30% increase in value.

I am worried about card prices when modern ptqs start next month. But the incoming shitstorm is sure to be entertaining as well

Makes me wonder why it takes at least two years to churn out reprints. Yes, there's planning, development, etc. involved, but it's clearly showing now that Wizards can't keep up with the demand and price spikes. Times have changed, but Wizards has failed to adept.
And since reprints takes ages to take place, Modern has a similiar problem like Legacy, except in an accelerated state due to a) demand and b) speculators already knowing how to manipulate the format.

It's a natural response time when speaking of this kind of business. (yeah, I'm writing b-crap, but w/e.) Imao it's more about sets being produced too fast than about reprints being produced too slowly.
also, I remember the times when the cards were expensive only because we lacked money and have to split the few bucks we got between MtG, beers and R&R. Sadly, nowadays prices are ridiculous and lots of fun is lost in constant speculation and such. I''d love if prices fall down. And by "fall down" I don't mean usual the prices from last year or w/e people talk about. A tier1 Type 1,5 deck for fifty dollars, that's what I mean.

Been going up steadily for the last few months. Stupid me, selling my 3 spares. I only have a set +1 for vintage. :(
-
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
i felt sad because of these rising prices.
i sold all my staples before moving to HK not long ago and now decided to get into it eternal format again even though we only have a casual playgroup here.
however, it's quite frustrating since im buying stuff that costs half less than 6 months ago, and i have no choice :(
anyways, i read somewhere that it's partly the fault of fetches not being reprinted that contributed to the duals spike.
blue fetches are now hitting 100 usd mark which pushes the price of duals higher.
had the fetches stayed in 30 - 50 usd mark because of reprints, dual price will not be as high as it is now.
i have accepted the fact that my Beta dual project will not be a reality in the near future and may well as be settling for FBBs.

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
So, there is talk that Brainstorm (and StP) will be printed in Conspiracy, which means a wide release of foils.
I, for one, am quite pleased, but then again I am one of those filthy savages that actually likes new boarded foils.

I like them too. Another foil StP is not too much to celebrate though. I remember being excited about the judge foil since it was the only foil release coming out other than the old bordered, beta-art promo. Then after the judge came the ftv20, then this.
Brainstorm will satiate more needs, but will it also mean another influx of printings like StP? (i.e. a few more foil opportunities in the next couple of years?)

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
Wastelands increased by 30$ each because it isn't in Vintage Masters.
Wow, just wow.
