[Deck] Aggro Loam

I think I have a list that best utilizes vortex.

4 wooded foothills
4 bloodstained mire
1 forest
3 badlands
2 taiga
1 bayou
1 plateau
4 wasteland
1 tranquil thicket
4 forgotten cave
1 dryad arbor

4 mox diamond

4 dark confidant
1 deathrite shaman
1 sylvan safekeeper
1 gaddock teeg
1 tarmogoyf
1 scavenging ooze
3 countryside crusher

4 loam
3 green sun's zenith

4 molten vortex

4 abrupt decay

3 Liliana of the Veil

Sideboard --
1 green sun's zenith
1 gaddock teeg
4 ethersworn canonist
3 golgari charm
1 sylvan safekeeper
1 reclamation sage
4 leyline of the void

I only got to run gsz + safekeeper in a couple of tourneys so it definitely needs more testing but I really like the concept. The creatures in this deck can really takeover so protection can go a really long way.

FYI, Niklas (schniggaz) has a feature match on at GP Lille. He is 4-0 going into this round (Round 5).

So far in just running the deck - it either works amazingly well. . . . or doesn't - far more often. Honestly - after all my tinkering, if Molten Vortex has a home - I doubt this is it. :cry:

While thrilled with the results, I must admit I'm surprised-I thought the Omni matchup was prohibitively bad for this deck. I have yet to try Slaughter Games in a non-Burning Wish shell though.

My understanding is that Omni got hated out pretty hard in this tournament.

IMO, Aggro Loam was the most impressive deck of the GP. There weren't very many copies of it, and only three players on the deck made day two, but two made top 8 and the third finished 52nd. That third player also recently won Prague Eternal and a previous BOM.

Christoph got the decklist from Niklas (Schniggaz on here) and Jaroslav quoted that he based his list off the one from Prague. The deck is super solid. I ve been playing it several times after BOM last year and it is a blast to play while being powerful. T1 Chalice is strong right now and a T2 Teeg is amazingly good against Storm G1. This deck is not as soft to combo as you might think.
Sneak and Show felt bad, because they have 8 enablers but they have been absorbed by Omni, which is a lot softer to Chalice and Teeg.

Elves and Omni are the only combo decks I feel disfavored against.

I think Sneak is fine matchup as Karakas actually has a textbox against them, unlike against Omni.

There are some other bad match ups. Shardless doesn't feel good. I doubt burn is great either.

Dropping Ethersworn Canonist off Show and Tell and destroying the Omniscience with Golgari Charm requires two cards.
Dropping Qasali off Show and Tell, lets them cast Emrakul before having priority to destroy the enchantment.
Reclamation Sage is way better. Play him. In addition it is way better at fighting Blood Moon in other Matchups.
I thought about playing Nevermore to fight OmniShow.

I'm new to this deck. Ran a slightly modified version of Niklas' Prague list at a small event, but played Depths and it seemed very good (in part due to improbably frequent natural drawing). What informed the widespread decision not to play it? I get that the colorless slots hurt and double-knight activation usually means you're up anyway, but any more insight?

I mean, you basically just nailed it. The hoops you have to jump through make it more of a gimmick than an actual strategy. Those two land slots are precious, and playing two useful lands instead will make your overall game just so much better.

You have to cut Maze if you want to do this. Part of why Maverick can run it is because they have a lot more mana dorks, though i have played with it and won because of the combo.

Even then, Maverick cut Maze of Ith years ago because of how little it mattered - but overall yes, I agree that Maze or DD/Stage combo, but not both. Mox Diamond helps somewhat to mitigate that awkward no-colored-mana opener tho.

It is really lili's fault that the kronberger list can't play Lage. -1 Maze -1 Dual +1 Stage +1 depths downgrades a black land to a colorless land. The manabase is strained as is at 1BB. You could "downgrade" other lands but that would probably be even worse. Otherwise Lage is great in the shell. Stage is a fine land on it's own with the land toolbox.

I'm playing this list. There is no lili (personal preference) so I don't have the mana constraints and am able to make use of this extra angle of attack.

It was indeed the most impressive thing that happened, so where is the coverage of it?

I was pulling my hair out (not that there's much left) looking at yet another Delver game.

That would of required at least 1 person on the coverage team to have a passing familiarity with legacy. That's clearly a bit too much to ask of them for a legacy gp.

It's awesome to see this deck do well. I've had Niklas BoM 2014 list in my modo decks forever and love playing it every now and then.
