Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
Checking in after GP Prague. I played Ub OmniClash to a 5-4 record, losing my win-and-in. It was great fun and felt strong. I misplayed and it cost me. The deck was definitely good for a Day 2 showing, just not in my hands.

Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
I've been playing ANT recently and neglecting U/B Omni.
That said, anyone have Akash Naidu's list from the recent SCG Worcester event? Apparently he sleeved up Day's Undoing, makes me curious what else he ran with.
Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
Hey there folks,
I've been playing the U/B list this last two Tuesdays in my local store here in Barcelona, ending 2-2 the both events. Mostly I'm losing to variance (or absurd mirror matches), and I lost yesterday vs BR Reanimator due to a huge misplay (I've tried to combo through Show to Omni to Cunning Wish, just forgot about the Iona I knew my opponend had in hand :really:)
The thing is, I have usually big trouble finding Show and Tell. I don't know about you guys, but for me, 4 S&T, 3 LDV and 12 cantrips clearly are not enough (yesterday vs Reanimator, match 1 I was 1 mana short to hardcast Omniscence; my deck gave no S&T nor LDVs in 32 cards). I'm thinking about jamming an Intuition and/or the 4th LDV in the sideboard; I should think what to remove from there (maybe a bouncer and/or Noxious Revival; not really sure). Any feedback about it? Thanks!

I am 100% sure this is an issue of your use of cantrips, given that storm has no troubles to find 4-offs with less library manipulation. To lean wide out of the window: I suspect you blow cantrips for lands and protection early and then don't have enough left to dig for your combo
Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
Thanks for the feedback! This is a reasonable assumption, but I tend to shuffle away extra lands as much as I can and I'm not searching for protection especially. Maybe it's just variance and I'm overthinking.
Anyway, your comment makes me think about the number of lands of my build. I'm currently playing 20 lands, 2 of them being Boseiju. Maybe is too much? But on the other hand, if I was to cut a land, it would be to replace it with the third Spell Pierce, not with cantrips or the like, so I don't really see how this would be a solution.

I am convinced that 20 lands is indeed too much for 12 cantrips, especially as cards like Gitaxian Probe could create additional redundancy for finding lands, combo pieces or protection. Its not that you want to draw more than 5 lands in an average game. Personally, I don't like LDV for its carddisadvantage and cost (black) as I like running BackToBasics in SB. I favor MB Jace
Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
Usualy when I play the 3 GP sneak and show I only play 19 lands and when I play without the GP I play 20 lands. Also no preordains.
Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
Hey there folks,
Top 4'd yesterday at Catalan Legacy League (65 players) with U/B OmniTell with 4x Thoughtseizes and 3x Lim-Dûl's Vault main. I'll try to write some report or at least share some thoughts about the deck. I was 5-2 during the Swiss, entering 7th by tiebreakers; won vs U/R Omni-Tell, Burn, Junk and 2x Jund and lost to Shardless BUG and Colorless Eldrazi. Won the Top 8 against Lands and lost the Top 4 vs Miracles.
More in a few days, I hope. Combo for life!
Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
I find that in Legacy, where discard flies here and there, LDV's ability to put the needed card exactly on top is the best thing of it. Especially it synergises well with Top (I play 2): tutor for two combo pieces in one pile at end of turn, draw one for upkeep and the other for Top and combo out being discard proof. Before this you just cantrip and disrupt the opponent, holding 0-1 combo pieces in hand. Pretty awesome.
Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
Well, here's the promised reoprt. The tournament was five days ago and my notes are minimal, so there will be some inaccuracies. Sorry for that
First, the decklist:
2 Tomb
2 Boseiju
1 Flooded
5 Island
1 Misty
4 Delta
2 Scalding
1 Swamp
2 USea
3 Emrakul
4 Brainstorm
4 Cunning
4 FoW
3 LDV
4 Omni
4 Ponder
4 Preordain
4 S&T
2 Pierce
4 TSeize
Side:
1 Boseiju
1 Echoing
1 Eladamris
1 EExplosives
1 FForesight
1 Intu
1 LDV
1 Massacre
1 Pact of Negation
1 RtAnts
1 Slaughter Pact
1 Toxic Deluge
1 Trickbind
1 Wipe Away
I included Intuition and LDV in the sideboard, replacing Surgical and Noxious Revival, after an awful evening of testing where I was unable to find any Show and Tell during two entire rounds. In the end I didn't use any of them even once, and I don't feel they are necessary anymore. Maybe there would be a point in playing Intuition, but 4th LDV side is not needed; I'll switch again to Surgical. I'd like to find space to play a 2nd Toxic Deluge and maybe a Ravenous Trap.
The tournament was like this:
Round 1, win 2-0 vs U/R Omni-Tell (an almost monoblue version, with a red splash for Pyroblasts and other red cards in the sideboard). First match is strangely long and controllish, as I only draw Thoughtseizes and countermagic, so my opponent (who knows my hand thanks to his Probes) can't go off. Eventually is me who ends winning when I can assemble the pieces with double Fow backup. I sideboard minimally: +1 Flusterstorm -1 Preordain. Match 2 I open a hand with Omniscience, Cunning and some counter, so given that there was little time remaining, maybe I should have waited to his Show and Tell to win in response to his first spell post-Omniscience. Anyway I drew S&T shortly after and won from there. In this matchup Thoughtseize really shines, being able to discard combo pieces or protection instead of just seeing it with Probes is invaluable. 1-0.
Round 2, win 2-0 vs Burn. I mulligan first game on the play, but I see in my notes that I end at 9 life, so I suppose I assemble quickly (no, I don't remember anything of this game ). Sideboarding vs Burn is tricky, as I want to take out as many Boseijus and Thoughtseizes as possible, so I have to side in 5-6 cards. I sided in Flusterstorm, Explosives, Echoing, Intuition and maybe Wipe Away, and I left 1 TSeize main. That leaded me to a mistake: I had to directly Show Emrakul and send the turn back at 4 life and with a Rift Bolt suspended over my head, and I tried to Cunning to Flusterstorm in his upkeep, only to remember I had Fluster in the maindeck (I fetched Pact, but I couldn't play it as I couldn't pay the 3UU next upkeep). So I was down to 1; luckily for me, he didn't drew anything relevant and I swinged next turn with the Flying Spaghetti Monster, leaving him boardless and at 4 life. He doesn't find anything to finish me off and concedes. 2-0.
Round 3, lose 1-2 vs Shardless BUG. He mulligans down to 5 on the play and he has to keep a mediocre hand, so I win quickly. Games 2 and 3 he does his thing of creatures+discard+counters and I can't offer much resistance (though I can kill an unexpected Meddling Mage with an also unexpected Explosives). 3rd match was the only time when LDV was really bad; I found two of them stucked in my hand and I didn't have the time to play them under pressure. Maybe I should sideboard out one of them at least. For this match I'd like to find space in the sideboard for the second Toxic Deluge (and the 130€ to buy them both foil ). 2-1.
Round 4, win 2-0 vs Junk. First match I think I won easily, he didn't hit me with discard so I had no pressure. He Zenithed for 2 to Gaddock Teeg, which is a play that doesn't bother me especially, and I won next turn via Show to Omni to Flying Spaghetti Monster. Game 2 he played Ethersworn Canonist, slowing me down a little. The fun play of the day came when I played Show and Tell putting Omniscience and he deployed Tidehollow Sculler and saw Cunning Wish and Massacre. He said "luckily I don't have any Plains in play" and exiled Cunning Wish. I passed the turn, he hit me with his critters and send the turn back. Then, when I play Massacre for free, he said "but I have no Plains!"... and I pointed to my Omniscience . I wipe his board, get back my Cunning and win from there. 3-1.
Round 5, win 2-0 vs Jund. I know my opponent and he usually plays Miracles, so I'm surprised when he starts with some turn 1 Jundish play that I can't remember; seeing my notes, he went down to 18, so possibly he Thoughtseized me. I decide to go all in and Show an Spaghetti Monster as soon as I can find it (I think I had FoW, just in case for an early Liliana). He didn't had any answer so I won. Game 2 he Thoughtseizes me turn 1 and Hymns me turn 2, but I didn't had anything relevant in hand first turn and Hymn took away some redundant cards, so I win shortly after. 4-1.
Round 6, lose 1-2 vs Colorless Eldrazi. I win game 1 through a turn 1 Chalice of the Void; I already had Show and Tell and Emrakul. He deployed TKS, which would have been useful in the case I had had Omniscience. After the game he said he was doubting between Seer or Endbringer. Lucky me. Anyway I didn't have any options games 2 and 3; he also opened both with Chalice @ 1 on his first turn (he played Simian Spirit Guides to accelerate his first turns, which I think is a great idea). I don't draw anything useful and lose quickly and horribly to his colorless tentacles. 4-2.
We are 65 players, so it's highly posible that some 5-2 will Top 8. I am the first 4-2 and in seventh position, so... win and in!
Round 7, win 2-0 vs Jund. Here's where my topdeck festival starts  Game 1 I Thoughtseize him to find Hymn, Liliana and irrelevant cards, so I have to take away Hymn and hope to deal with Lily later. Things start to go south quickly as I can't find answers. I'm facing Liliana and an army of beaters, and I have some blanks plus an Omniscience in hand. I topdeck Brainstorm, play it and find Show and tell AND Emrakul . I win easily from there. Game 2 he plays Turn 2 Liliana and starts eating my hand; turn 3 he has three Shamans into play, but I can deal with them with an Explosives at one. Shortly after, I find myself with Omniscience as only card in hand. Then I topdeck Show and Tell . I S&T Omniscience and pass with an empty hand. From there, I draw another Omniscience and two straight lands, but I was at 19 life so I have plenty of time until LDV comes to win me the match at 5 life (in the meantime he ultimates me with Liliana, letting all lands in one pile and the 2 Omnis in the other; I choose the Omnis, obviously). 5-2 straight into Top 8!
Top 8, win 2-0 vs Lands. He starts blazingly fast with Mox Diamond, Land, Exploration, Land, Gamble. I hit his Loam and discard it. Turn 2 he already have Thespian+Dark Depths. I need to find Show and Tell to win. I topdeck Show and Tell. I win. Second match he starts as fast as in the first one, with Grove, Exploration, land, Gamble. Again, I hit Life from the Loam. I have all the pieces of combo in hand (and by all, I mean Show, Omni, Emrakul and double Cunning), but I need to survive until turn 3 to win. He has Thespian+Dark Depths+enough mana to activate turn 2, so he summons Marit Lage at the end of my 2nd turn. He hits me... but I was at 21 life thanks to the Grove activation in his first turn, so I survive at 1 life. So in my 3rd turn I play it all and win a very, very fast and close match. Top 4'd!
Top 4, lose 0-2 vs Miracles. He assembles CB+Top as early as turn 2 (or maybe 3) and I can't really fight back. The funniest play of the match comes when I LDV in my turn (he has a cost 1 on Top and was tapped, I think) to find a Boseiju. He lets LDV resolve, and in his turn he plays Jace and put Boseiju on the bottom of my library. He's tapped, so I try my luck and play Show and Tell, but he had left Entreat the Angels on top. Oh well. Second match he sideboards a lot and sees almost every sideboarded card (Containment Priest, Pyroblast, he even Snares a LDV!), so I don't have any option. I don't see any Boseiju or counters in the entire match, but I've been so insanely lucky at round 7 and Top 8 that I can't really complain.
Overall: I made top 4, 6-3 in rounds, 14-6 in matches, and I won every 1st match except the Miracles one. To be honest, I was extremely lucky when I needed to be, and I didn't win against Eldrazi, BUG nor Miracles, that are the decks to beat currently, so I'm really not 100% happy. The BUG and Eldrazi matches should be addressed with more Toxic Deluges in the sideboard (2 for sure, maybe 3?), and I feel that Miracles should be beatable with 3 Boseijus post-side, 4 Thoughtseizes and the set of counterspells. I'm positive about one thing: The UB version is WAY better than the monoblue one right now. I think I was not critically wastelanded not even once during the whole tournament.
tl;dr: Play UB Omnitell, the deck is fun as hell (oops, now I'm a poet ). Sorry for my bad English and combo for life!

I'm with you there, this is one of the few foils I'm missing for this deck. lol A 2nd Toxic Deluge may not be a bad idea if we're looking for an additional sweeper in the board.

I've actually found that this sort of thing happens a lot with this deck. With everything being 4-ofs, our chances of getting lucky are greatly improved. I've often been in a woops I just won the game situation.

You're a poet and you didn't even know it! lol Thanks for the report, keep them coming!
Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
1)Has anyone of you running the version with Thoughtseize and Lim-Dûl's Vault tried out Terminus?
It is a virtual 4-of in conjunction with LDV and can buy you several turns in theory.
2) Has anyone tried out Rhystic Tutor? I am thinking of a list with 5-6 sol lands and 3 Petals to ensure an early Tutor.

1) The idea of using LDV as a Miracle-enabler is interesting. Anyway, to use Terminus we should add white to the deck, and I think that the drawback of a third color is not worthy. I'll play 2 Toxic Deluge+1 Massacre+1 Engineered Explosives in the side to deal with hatebears. And the blue Miracle cards aren't good enough to fit in the deck neither.
2) Rhystic Tutor is not really needed IMO. LDVs (and, in the worst case scenario, Cunning to Intuition) should be enough to find the pieces you need.
Off-topic: Yesterday I tried Omni-Attack in my weekly store tournament. And I hated it. Really, REALLY hated it. It seemed to me amazingly clunky and misleading. I'll re-sleeve UB Omnitell ASAP.

LOL it may be  (I have to say that I won vs All Spells turn 1 with Tomb+Petal+Show+Omni+Griselbrand+draw 14+Emrakul )
But the thing with the deck is that, very often, the pieces of combo you have in hand force you to take wrong decisions (example, having Sneak Attack, Omniscience and fatties in hand, shuffle away Omni and then draw Show and Tell). I also missed my Thoughtseizes. Maybe is simply that I'm too used to Omni-Tell, of course; I find it so streamlined that I didn't enjoy Omni-Attack. Anyway, tomorrow there's the August edition of Catalan Legacy League and I'll play UB Omni-Tell again; I'll let you know the outcome!

Hmm, did you lose that game?
Show and Tell into Sneak Attack into fattie should be enough.
Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
I'm still on the dreamhalls version because it's so flashy. Enter the infinite? Yes plz! Being able to play 12 cantrips and pact of negation is awesome.

Interesting. I've been having the exact opposite opinion of Omni-Tack. I've been loving it so far. I switched to it from a UR Omnitell list where I played 4 Emrakul and my plan A was to chain them. I've always felt Omnitell was clunky. There are a lot of times you just die with a bunch of Omniscience and no way to get them into play. I've been liking the streamlined approach. You get some of the raw power of Sneak without being stonecold dead to certain cards.
My biggest hurdle so far has been using Griselbrand properly. Sure, most of the time you just plop him into play and draw to your heart's desire, but sometimes it's not as simple as that.
Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
I will say that you are both correct. The strength of Omni-tack is also its weakness. It plays multiple strategies and can therefore adapt depending what deck it's facing. Example; against D&T it can switch from sneak attack to omni to avoid most of the hate cards.
The weakness of playing both of these strategies is that you end up with a lot of bad pairs: Wish+Sneak, Wish+Emrakul/Griselbrand, Sneak+Omni. This heightens the variance of the deck and can sometimes lead to clunky, do-nothing-draws.
I will say that that the pros and cons of the deck sort of cancel each other out. Once again my point being; you are both correct.
KjU :)
Re: [Deck] MonoU OmniTell
Hey,
do you board in Boseiju(s) against Delver decks with 4 Wastelands or don't you board them and try to fetch basics?
I'm very unsure about this, because delver decks often present a very fast clock so that you can't afford to get wastelanded or to pay 2 extra life.
Cheers,
