I'm trying out 2 Restoration angels. Tough for them to kill it, and it can randomly save a man.
And I'm on 2 RIP. Might debate some relic action just to somewhat weaken delve strategies. So right now I've got an enlightened tutor and 2 RIP along with of course deathrite

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
With amount of no goys and main removal being lighting bolt for most part Brimaz looks to be a great creature atm. With it being a legendary creature lands like Eiganjo Castle and Shizo, Death's Storehouse has alot of play.
Malicious Affliction looks really strong with Cabal Therapy and lingering souls. Mark of Asylum or Absolute Law also looks to a be solid card against the annoying burn spells thats running arround and its even tutorable.

It's a tough matchup. Probably the most difficult matchup of the Delver decks because their removal package rivals ours.
My opponents build (Bug Delver) didn't have Treasure Cruise. The other Delver decks did. I find Relic of Progenitus to be huge in the matchup. And removing their Deathrite is key. While the matchup is tough, their manabase and spells are much greedier color wise than other Delver decks. So mana can be attacked to better success. This is a matchup that does make me wish I had 2 Heros of Bladehold. Plus all my removal post board is 2 for 1's.
Lingering Souls is huge too. I rarely cast and flashback both. Saving it since they have Golgari Charm. Considering putting a Kitchen Finks in board. It's decent vs Burn. And against BUG, assuming they have no Deathrite, it's a creature they have to kill twice.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Those lands honestly seem completely terrible. Basics that get wasted and don't do anything outside of a tiny interaction that is marginal seem meh.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I used to run Rest in Peace but losing Lingering Souls flashback and Deathrite Activations to be a huge loss. I like Relic in testing vs Cruise decks. Deathrite is ok but Relic usually better. Managed to beat Grixis Delver...he didn't draw removal. I had 2 Deathrites. So I ate everything, probably to the extreme since I probably could have killed him a turn or 2 earlier. He showed me his hand at the end of the game. 3 Treasure Cruise and 2 Smash to Smithereens.
Tried a Singleton Spirit of the Labyrinth. Jury is still out on him since he's so fragile. Still debating on whether it should be a Chains of Mephistopheles. Only one though, since I checked out that it's now $400. That's absurd. I like the fact that the Spirit is a threat but it can die very easily, what's worse some of the Delver decks pack stuff like Golgari Charm or Electrickery.
Probably gonna get a Containment Priest for the board. Being able to hose Sneak/show, Reanimator, hurt Dredge, hurt Elves a bit is enticing. And at worst, he's a crappy Ambush Viper.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I've been meh on spirit. When he's good, he locks up the game (thoughtseize your removal, play spirit, nice brainstorm in hand), and when he's not good, he's blade of the sixth pride that the blue decks need to at least waste removal on. As for priest, I really like it. I'm very much on the fence of how many, and where to play him. Main? Side? 2? 4? Does he replace spirit? Bob? Souls?

I agree, I run a singleton Karakas and I stop there. To me, it's much better than the Castle or Death house as you can use it to not only save your guy but to bounce an opposing Legendary Creature. You could run more Karakas if you have enough guys on your side to save. I think that's totally fine.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
And about Malicious Affliction, in a deck that has multiple Cabal Therapies, I think it could work.
So ideally a deck with Lingering Souls, Brimaz and/or Hero could give you a bunch of expendable guys that could either die in combat or get sacrificed to Therapy. I guess Bitterblossom too but I've died to that card way too much that I'd rather run the other token generators first.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Karakas is fine because it can win a game. The others seem pretty much useless outside of corner cases. I personally don't even like Karakas, but it is probably fine. I just hate losing to mana screw, which is also why I'm on 23 lands now

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
My sideboard is currently:
1 Manriki-Gusari
3 Gaddock Teeg
3 Thalia
3 Zealous Persecution
3 Choke
2 flex
I've had Argivian Find (untested), Rest in Peace (mediocre), and Mirran Crusader (never drew it against BUG or Nic Fit) in the flex slots. Any recommendations?

Heh, the question of "are you playing dedicated graveyard hate"... Wilkin.

It's probably not worth it for Dredge. Doesn't stop Zombie tokens, and I doubt they will keep Dread Return package in. It does kinda stop Ichorids, but meh.

With UR everywhere there is less wastelands played as well.
Used to play Manriki-Gusari in the board but for me it never was of any use.
How will they get any zombies if none of their creatures comes in the mill / gy way? they gonna cast their creatures? :D Stops both ichorids and narcomoeba.
Advantech with Malicious Affliction is that copies itself with the morbid makes it harder to counter.

Lol, yeah Graveyard hate. I can't put together a deck without putting some in. I played a couple of small tournaments with Reanimator.....4 Leyline of the Void and 2 Helm in the board.
Priest is ok. Stops Narcomoeba as well. It's no Yixlid Jailer (lol which I have played before) but it helps out.
Finding Gaddock Teeg very clunky. Had 2 in my board, gonna go down to 1 probably. I considered adding another Bayou main, but I like having the 4 Basic lands. With that and 2 Chrome Mox, it's hard to waste me out or Blood Moon me out of the game.

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Priest is totally awesome against dredge. Unless they are hard casting dudes, they can't actually do anything. As for RIP, what is it you guys are dissatisfied with? It's been great for me. Yes, shutting off deathrite and souls is awkward, but shutting down hordes of Goyfs is great. Also just plopping it down against dredge or reanimator is very nice. I generally am not boarding it against the delve decks though unless it's a Goyf deck

They can still dredge, and they can still cast Dread Return or Cabal Therapy (DR won't return a creature of course).
Also, since it's a 2CC, they might have a Narcomoeba in play.
Zombies still come into play.

At worst they get like 2 zombies? And they can cast thosethings sure, but they won't get their dread return target back, and they may make a couple of dudes, but priest shuts down what really beats you, the recurring ichorid plus bridge. 2-3 zombies isn't really that difficult to beat. Also he can simply jump in the surprise blocka zombie or ichorid to kill off their bridges. He's not as good as like RIP against them, but he's still pretty damn good if he comes down turn 2.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
If they dredge and hit narcs they don't get them so they won't do that. It really slows dredge down a lot, and I mean a lot. No fresh narcs, no ichorids, no DR. Now you have a deck with a terrible manabase that has to cast very mediocre creatures. You should be able to find stuff faster than they do, like RiP to completely lock them out or a way to kill one of your own creatures (Batterskull anyone?). It gives you so much time against them you actually have a chance instead of just dying to a horde of zombies or some big reanimated beast.
Ow and flash is just gravy, respond to narc triggers? Yes please.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I think what you are failing to see Razvan is that Containment Priest won't be the only card sideboarded in vs Dredge. Sure, if Containment Priest is the only card you have then you are in trouble, but that card plus a couple of Deathrites, or a Relic, etc. It all adds up. Believe me when I say that Containment Priest won't be the only card I'm putting in against Dredge in games 2 and 3. :D
For example, Priest is good vs Elves. It shuts down Dryad Arbor from coming in, Natural Order and Green Sun's Zenith. It doesn't stop Glimpse or Elvish Visionary, or Symbiote shenanigans. But It shuts down enough to warrant siding it in.

The same is true with Grafdigger's (although cutting off flashback is helpful) but Grafdigger's basically insta-gibs them.

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I have a few questions for dedicated deadguy players:
1) is leyline of the void a good way to keep souls/deathrite active while hosing other decks graveyards?
2) is tidehollow sculler worth considering still?
3) how worthwhile is splashing green for decay/goyf/turning on deathrite fully?

1) It's probably fine. I just hate the leyline game plan in general, especially when it comes to graveyard hate since there are a lot of very good options
2) Sculler isn't terrible, and he's still really good in a combo heavy meta, but he's mediocre in the fair match ups.
3) I don't find it necessary. At that point you should be simply playing normal junk or whatever imo since green gives you better dudes. I just like a rock solid mana base with the ability to play my game with basic lands

1. It's fine. There are many options though, I run Relics right now since I find it really good vs the Cruise decks.
2. I personally don't run it as it's really fragile and I run a lot of board wipes post board.
3. Not worthwhile to me. I play one Bayou for activations and it's good 99% of the time. I prefer a more stable manabase. And goyfs are kind of meh to me. I prefer creatures that can do more than just block and attack. Well, Hero is the exception although she does make soldiers.
Megadeus. Just saw your deck on TCdecks.net. How did you find Kor Firewalker? And lol, I was kind of hoping you kept the Shriekmaw in the main....for the Restoration Angel.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Hey there, just started building this deck. I was looking at Megadeus's list on TCdecks.net and was wondering why it has 61 cards in it. Also just wondering if any of you thinks containment priest has a spot in this deck (maybe a split with containment priest?)

Firewalker I think I boarded in once against URW Delver (which probably wasn't even right), but I like it a lot. Unfortunately I haven't gotten to test much abd the last tourney I forgot I don't actually own any myself so I just played Gerards Verdicts as my burn/UR hate. As for Shriekmaw, I only cut it for spirit because I have been on a brainstorm/treasure cruise hate tirade lately. I definitely picked up a Russian one just incase I need to go back to it. Also a deck with Batterskull, shriekmaw and multiple restoration angel with Bob's seems... Ambitious lol.
Glad we essentially came to the same conclusions regarding those questions. Relic doesn't seem so bad. I may try it out. I just love the raw power of RIP.
As for 61, I always like playing a random extra card. Always play 61 if I'm not on a combo deck. In this case, the 61st card is a second isolated chapel. And I like priest. Haven't gotten my hands on any to test out with though. In theory it seems real good and I will have a tough time deciding between that and spirit. I definitely will be trying itmain deck personally
Also, I've since cut the Etutor package to test without it. I don't know if it's right or not though. Been on this SB:
3 Kor Firewalker
3 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
2 RIP
2 Zealous Persecution
2 Disenchant
2 Perish
1 Shriekmaw (for delver)

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Not quite there. Finished 12-3 for 45th place. $300 and 3 pro points. Slightly better record than Washington.

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
No maindeck relic. Highlight for me was hero of bladehold winning 4 games, including one where she had sofi and batterskull. Will post a report later.

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Congratulations. Please tell us more about your battle against TC-delver decks;)

Congrats Wilkin! Great job. In hindsight I think this was the best non-blue non-meta deck and I wish I had played it. Someone from my LGS was 5-1 with it at one point, I wonder if he was the other "white-black stoneblade" player.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Congrats man. Good to see this deck is still able to win. I'm hoping to get us a win at the end of the month at SCG ATL. I'm thinking the best way to trump the raw advantage that treasure cruise provides is to play an unanswerable threat

Can't afford $350 chains…personally I would run spirit of labyrinth(die to bolt) as a cheap replacement.

Price to pay for beating the couple dollars worth of cruise and brainstorm :P

Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Hey, I was talking to some of my friends at FNM on friday and we where wondering what resto angel is doing in this deck. Obviously it has a pretty cute interaction with stoneforge, but 4CMC hurts in a deck relying on bob for card advantage. That being said, none of us are really that familiar with this deck, and so any input is obviously appreciated.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Tournament report is up.
Well, Megadeus plays Angel so he is probably best to answer that. Being able to save a Spirit of the Labyrinth or Bob from a Bolt or Plow must be nice. And even as a just a flash 3/4 blocker can ambush a smaller creature.
But 4CMC or 5 isn't that bad really. I play 2 Shriekmaws, a Batterskull and a Hero of Bladehold and it works for me.
-
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I have no qualms over saving up for a chains if it comes down to it, I just like spirit since it is a man. I guess dying to every removal in the game is tough, but sometimes you Gotta take the chance of that happening. Also just doing something and being a man in the non blue MU is relevant
Also the Angel is alright in testing. I've not really had too much issue with Bob. If he's flipping things, you are probably winning. Angel has been nice to eot just put man who can go blow for blow with true name is nice. And ambush blocking is fun. Saving a man with her has been rare, but it's certainly not irrelevant. I've cut to three Bob for locals so I can try out a tomb stalker. Like I said, one way to fight card advantage is to simply slam a man who they just can't answer.

Have you never revealed a Shriekmaw to Bob ? I know uncounterability is a thing but well...
How was the 1-of Council's judgment compared to a 3rd vindicate ? I cannot see a common use case where CJ > Vindicate (except a resolved Emrakul, hexproof guy which I consider mostly as a corner case) but maybe I'm missing something here.
I read your report and it seems that stone raining people have worked like a "charm".
I'm glad Bladehold shows up. I'm playing Sorin, LoI in its place to add further % against control & grindy matches.
I also like your SB, pretty well tuned against TC decks. After the GP, would you make changes, if any ? I'm playing with a second chains of Mephi because it synergizes so well with "Bob + Stone rain".
