That's Vintage Masters at work not SCG imo

It's a well known fact that all Vintage players make a minimum of 200k a year, so Vintage has more or less already achieved that.

Likewise, I also bought into another piece today, and mostly because it was a bit of arm twisting from SCG's buylist. Did I need it? No. But I'd rather get the piece now before the market stabilizes at a few hundred dollars than today. Incoming Alpha Mox...

I fucking love the venetian ... I don't even particularly like Vegas. We should have a Source Gentleman's Vintage Cup there some month.

"Did we just become best friends?"
Yeah, I went to Vegas once (for some bizarre reason that is where my sister wanted to get married)...120 something degrees later I decided the desert is unfit for any sort of human habitation, unless you just happen to be a Bedouin (this may also be related to the fact that we got a little lost due to our own stupidity and ended up walking about a mile along the interstate in that heat).
The best part was after the wedding we walked around strip and my policy is that once I put on a suit, I am wearing it the whole day. In every casino, at least one person assumed I worked there. I also got numerous cat-calls while walking down the street, plus people telling me I was crazy (apparently wearing a suit when it is over 100 degrees makes other people delirious).
Highlight of the trip though was visiting the Venetian, I vowed if I ever went back it would only be to stay there. Frankly I wouldn't even leave the hotel, every other place seemed like a cesspool. I'm going talk to some of my North East Vintage friends, we should really make this happen at some point. I don't know if we can do 2015, but maybe 2016.

Gonna have to do it in 2015. GP TBD is coming up.

I was just looking at the schedule a while ago, you are talking about GP TBD at the end of May, right?
You're thinking it'll be in Vegas?

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
It's just been the general rumor for some time. Educated guess, but it fits and I wouldn't be unhappy to have an excuse to visit Vegas (for the first time).

I was shopping for my first lotus and then this happened.... :frown:

I think that early in 2015 is off the plate for me, new baby in January and I need to get a new vehicle that can fit the 7 of us in it, plus I don't have paid time off from this new job until late in the year.

Living in the NE though, it's probably still totally worth it. You are in the only place in the US that Sanctioned Vintage can actually happen with any regularity.

Just get a used baby instead and quit your job.

I would love to have this conversation:
"Honey, let's trade in the baby for an older model, I need the cash, the guys want to play Vintage in Vegas."
:really:
"Also, I'm going to quit my job because I'm a man and I gotta be free."
Is it just me, but doesn't ABUgames has some reasonably priced pieces of (Unlimited) Power? Eh, I am totally out of touch on what prices have been though.

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
Not happy about this trend. I sold my sapphire, jet, walk and recall a week before they doubled in price a few months back. My lotus is on eBay with less than a day left and I'm contemplating canceling it if it's just gonna be worth double what it sells for in a month. I'm the guy who sold his NM Chains of Mephistopheles to Jupiter for $30 each a week before that guy played one at a SCG event and they went to $300-400 overnight. I wanted to watch something burn....

Either you have three wives or you're completely insane.
Also $20 Containment Priest can suck it.

Wait, having three wives wouldn't be completely insane?
My wife had four before her husband up and decided to abandoned them. We got married and now we are having one, so seven of us. In fact, we'll probably have another within 2 years, but that will probably be all.
You can still find played Power at reasonable cost, if you move relatively quick.
On Containment Priest, I'm actually a little surprised that it isn't a bit more expensive, but then again it is just a sideboard card (and not Blue).
In general though, it's always a bad time to sell and a good time to buy, especially for Power and dual lands.

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
I'm a little late to the party, but I recently noticed the price jump at SCG on their Lotuses. Alpha lotus went from 10K to 20K since I last checked. I had expected it to go up from what I'd been seeing on Ebay, but I was shocked that they bumped it to 20. Is this realistic or are they just anticipating future increases? I mean are they actually moving at this price for NM?? (They have none in stock in any condition)
Is this increase because of increased popularity in Vintage due to MODO Vintage?
With the 20 year anniversary and upcoming MODO introduction, I had a feeling they would go up. But dang.

Very nice! You're real man!
We got only three children and we ride Citroën C8. Not the best choice ever, and we lack the last row of seats as the car is bought from some rocker who didn't need them while carrying a guitar and combo. But it's still good for the money.

Do the wives need to know about each other?
I asked a friend of mine who is good at tracking down cards to see what he can find. I am getting 8 of the 9 (No Twister) and 4 Shops for just under 12 grand. Not a bad grab. I had been wanting to do it all slowly and make it feel like I earned it all myself but if the prices are going to shoot, I just went "Fuck it, I am getting a loan".

Wow, taking a loan out to buy power! I hope the investment works out for you. I'm fortunate that I started collecting power back around 2001. I paid 100-150 for most of my first Unl Moxes. Paid 325 for my Unl Lotus.

I'm with you, I went into debt (sort of, I can totally pay for it) to upgrade my UL jewels to Beta at EW via a friend at a cost of $10,600 (which was funded by selling UL, a stack of duals and $3.5K of my own money). He popped them in the post to me and by the time they came out at the other end they had nearly doubled in value. Man oh man am I happy that I paid that $100 in interest to land that deal then.
-
Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
11 months ago I bought an Alpha Black Lotus from the owner of a local card store that I've been going to since I started playing magic in 1994. It wasn't a cheap purchase. It's in great condition. That's the most I've paid for a magic card by a long shot, but looking back it was a great decision. That card has at least doubled, if not tripled in value. Oh, and as a joke when I bought the card he threw in a pack of Theros. I pulled a Thoughtseize in the Theros pack. Lol.

I know it's impossible to tell from a scan, but what would you guys grade this? How much should I value it? (I'm not interested in selling, but just for insurance purposes)

Yeah, third row is a definite need, the 4 kids are usually trying to sit on, lay on, kick/punch/murder each other in the back seat of our car right now. I guess that's normal if you have 4 boys? I have no idea, I had only one sister. Right now, on paper, we are looking at a used Honda Pilot, but we need to actually go test drive one to know if we like it.

Chances are good if they are in the same vehicle, they know about each other.
Man, in 2010, I bought 8/9 (No Jet, it was Beta and I didn't want to go that road, how stupid of me) plus 2 Bazaars and a Workshop for $3,000. Even though that wasn't an amazing deal at the time, it sure has payed off now. Plus it's a good thing, there is no way in the world I could afford power at it's current price. Hell, I am having a difficult time even trying to get some FBB duals...

Four boys trying to start a fight? Pretty usual, I'd say.
Our kith and kin got ten children. If you're ever going that route, than VW Transporter might be your best bet.

I would call that Excellent +, or Slightly Played. Value? I don't really know, over $6,000 minimum, I'd guess.

Oh, no, no, I am far too old for that many! This pregnancy has been kind of rough on my wife, I'm sure the next will be tougher, so I think we both realize we can only do this once more after this. I think 6 kids will be enough, right? They can even play casual 2-Headed Giant games!

6 kids will be enough? :)
Got only an 8 years old daughter, and i guess i'm going to get another one just for the sake of her not being alone in life when my life and I will leave this world.
If that wasn't for that reason alone, I would stop there as taking care of childs is just exhausting :) (An i'm not Not saying that there are no good things in having childs).

I made a new thread, I think we've derailed this one enough.

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
With the exception of dual lands it seems as though the reserve list is not hindering new players from joining the legacy format. This is comforting because if new players feel like they can at least compete they are likely to at least try it and thus the legacy community will grow.
Maybe dual lands don't need to be reprinted for legacy to grow?
-

Choose as you like. But really, this will be a factor sooner or later.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that if Legacy were growing, SCG wouldn't have three opens in six months. Attendance, if anything, has been more or less stagnant.

you would be incorrect, there seems to be a somewhat positive trend. look for yourself.
GP Strasbourg (13/04/2013) - Number of Players : 1365
GP Washington D.C. (16/11/2013) - Number of Players : 1698
GP Paris (15/02/2014) - Number of Players : 1587
GP New Jersey (15/11/2014) - Number of Players : 4003
Why was GP NJ attended 2-3 times more than others?
