Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
The Modern speculation is people assuming it is going to be a PT/GP/PTQ/large event format. I expect the # of Modern GPs more or less equal to the # Legacy GPs next year. I think we'll see 2-3 Legacy and 3-4 Modern.

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
Vendilian Clique has really shot up in price recently. I guess any of the decent cards that weren't banned in Modern are going to do this. Jace was going up right before it was announced to be banned and I'm assuming that trend will stop.

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
Clique is also really, really good right now in Legacy.

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
I think that the jump has mostly to do with Modern. Ravnica duals are going up a lot right now.

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
It's time to basically stock up on all great aggro cards that haven't jumped yet: Phyrexian obliterator, aether vial, Knight of the reliquary, tarmo, etc.

Damn, Clique is $34 on magiccards.info. It used to be like $10 or $12. When did this happen?

Goyf has jumped.
It's crazy how Clique jumped quickly. It rocks alright, clearly one of if not the single best 3-drop in the game, but I mean 25$+?

Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
I can understand the high prices on things like revised dual-lands, but Clique? Really? Prices are getting stupid. I sure hope this bubble pops soon, or Wizards better starts doing reprints...
-
Re: Raise, raise, raise. The price of cardboard
I think that the main reason for the jump in prices was when it was announced that Pro Tour Philly was changed to Modern. Players were only given three weeks notice on this. Cards that are expected to be staples in that new format are skyrocketting as a result.

Yes, but it is happening to every card. Look at Woodfall Primus. How the fuck is this shitty card $10? That card was worthless until EDH started growing in popularity. It seems as if every format (less so Standard) is warping prices to ridiculous levels.

Re: [Official] Bitching About Prices and Reprints Thread
Ha! I wonder how long before EDH actually prices its target demographic out of the format...

I've been wondering the exact same thing lately.
On another note, I'm surprised KOTR has never gone up in price, it being one of the best creature in Legacy and quite a decent card for EDH and all.
Last thing, I pity the people buying Clique at 25$ and Thoughtseize at 30$. Seems like an extremely poor investment given the possibility of reprints when things go out of hand. Is it just me or it looks like they're reprinting stuff a lot more "aggressively"? Just in the last year, with the Commander precons / DD, we've seen our fair share "good cards" reprinted. For people looking to speculate, the playables on the reserve list seem to be a safer bet... For anything past that, well, you never know!

I think the people buying Cliques, Thoughtseizes, and Confidants are foolish because early in the format Zoo and Boros are going to steamroll those decks, especially without, Misstep, Jitte and big Jace.

Grove of the Burnwillows is going through the roof... !
What next?
I understand people don't want to get caught behind the wave, but this is getting completely insane.
Edit: And since when is Pact of Negation selling for 20$?! Terrible timing to be buying these if you're doing so in a Legacy mindset. September is but a few weeks away...

First off Pact of Negation is not selling for $20, on Ebay I haven't seen one go over $15 and the average seems to be under $10. TGCPlayer does not indicate the actual price of cards.

Vendilion Clique was definitely undervalued pre-modern announcement when it was less than $10 a piece. I mean it sees play in Vintage and massive play in Legacy as either a main or side card for any deck that plays islands. What Modern has done is make more people see that the Vendilion Clique was undervalued and now it seems that due to the rise it is now being overvalued (in my opinion) with prices for the regular non foil, non judge at $30+. Vendilion Clique settling between $15-$20 is totally a fair price for what is one of the most amazing creatures blue has to offer but I could be wrong.

Yeah, you're right. It seems to be averaging out between 10-13$ rather than 20$, my bad.
Grove on the other hand...

No kidding, I was lucky to pick up one (!!!!) before it jumped up to $15. I've heard its upto 15 euros over on the other side of the pond over the weekend. If this card is going to be a key player in Modern, then the new red Leyline might be worth playing.
