I had my first tournament piloting this deck a couple days ago and finished in the top 8 losing out in the quarter finals heres the decklist I used:
Lands
4 City of Traitors
4 Ancient Tomb
11 Mountain
Maindeck
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Gathan Raiders
4 Seething Song
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Chrome Mox
4 Trinisphere
2 Chandra Ablaze
4 Blood Moon
3 Magus of the Moon
4 Rakdos Pit Dragon
4 Reckless Wurm
Sideboard:
4 Pyrokinesis
2 Red Elemental Blast
1 Pyroblast
3 Tormod's Crypt
3 Powder Keg
2 Anarchy
This was a 6 round tournament with a cut to the top 8 and I finished 4-1-1. Ill forego a proper tournament report here and focus on the elements in the deck I chose that are not seen too often in DS. Chandra Ablaze + Reckless Wurm go very well together and I wouldnt have played the wurms without Chandra. Chandra ablaze was absolutley back breaking every time she got into play (amazingly no one ever countered her). I got the idea to use her from the all in red deck used in extended. the idea being to get her out then burn the opponent with any spare cards and never let them get a stable hand together long enough to form any kind of strategy to use against you. Reckless Wurm complements this strategy quite nicely by burning 4 for with her +1 ability then sticking around on the board.
My loss came against a weird landstill deck that was just loaded up with answers and eventually won by answering every threat I was able to produce and winning off Elspeth and my loss in the quarter finals was against merfolk. The draw was and intentional draw in the last round.
As I did say at the beginning this was my first time running the deck at a tournament so I really wasnt sure what the right sideboarding strategies were and sometimes being unsure of which hands are keepers and which arent so Id really like to hear some suggestions, comments, and or changes I could make to improve the deck. Merfolk was a really bad matchup for me so I was thinking of trying either Magnetic Mountain or Boil in the board for such an occasion.
