I'm willing to bet that simply due to the mass of people attending, we will see more GPs.
Also, the interest may help to tilt Wizards hand towards reprinting towards the staples(not trying to instigate an argument).
Yeah, there were some questionable plays on Mullers part, but the report didn't give enough details for me to completely say. In game 3, If he had kept the extra land from the Study, he could have M. Tutored in his upkeep for Reanimate for his Iona and go from there. But, playing 20 rounds is liable to fry anyones brain.
1600 players come from Spain, I don't know how many players would be in Italy or France, for example.
Here in Spain we have a lot of regional Leagues of Legacy, so we can play a massive Legacy tournament every month (or two, or three if someone want to travel a lot)
Agreed, I am loving the love Legacy is getting lately - completely justified too. I love this format!
After testing against Reanimator a few weeks ago (and getting pwned), I figured it was only a matter of time until it won a tournament. So dirty.
Awesome for the format imho. Hope something like top 32 lists will be posted, although I'm pretty sure it won't happen... Shame on you, WotC coverage team.

I've just arrived from the place, after having some fast-food dinner with some friends. I was watching the whole Top 8. First of all, I'm very happy for my friend and team mate Alejandro Delgado, he's one of the best Legacy players in Madrid and probably one of the best Canadian Threshold players in Europe. We also got him to play Zoo, after we all beat his Canadian in previous days. However, he was unlucky to get paired against ANT. But hey, he must be proud, and we all know Zoo can't do much against ANT, but it was sad as the combo player didn't seem very good. First round he got pawned, second round his opponent missplayed and went for Ad Nauseam when he could have worked its way to an IGG win, that let Alex to kill him with Firesblast. Third game, some asshole in the public (don't know if a friend of the ANT pilot) said there was something strange with Alex's sleeves (after all top 8 players got deckchecked by the head judges), this lead judges to inspect his deck. Finally they didn't found anything and both players did mulligan to six. My friend then mulliganed to 5 and was forced to keep a slow hand, he got to drop a Crypt to stop IGG, but his opponent managed to topdeck bouncers and combo him out. The sleeves moment was pretty tense and if the local player would have got some kind of game loss, there would have been some verbal and maybe slightly physsical violence from the public.
Saito deserved the win, but he wasn't very lucky and kept funny hands, like double Confidant+Tendrils. Not running Orim Chant helped his opponent a lot, only having to goldfish on his turn against slow Saito's hands.
I was kind of disappointed as finalists were probably the worst players amongst top 8 players, but hey, that's magic. And I was happy to see Reanimator winning, as if the ANT kid had won, now everybody would be bitchig about how much ANT warps the format. However, seeing something rather surprising and not running neither Goyf nor CB winning the whole thing will shut some mouths.
I saw pretty weird plays (though maybe not wrong) the whole day. The final was full of strange things and both players were playing his combo decks very conservatively. I was on the Reanimator player side, so I could see his hand and his opponents, thanks to Thoughtseize, and we were all questioning some plays. The most interesting game was the last one. Quoting the WoTC coverage:
Müller had blue card, so that he could have picked up Force of Will and Reanimate Iona that very turn instead of playing Toughtseize. When he saw his opponent's hand, he realised his opponent could cast Ad Nauseam off LED mana on his turn. However, it was funny how he had a chance, as he had Daze in hand and his opponent had only 6 mana (Land, Land, LED, Petal), as he needed to top and play Nauseam. Do Anh was lucky enough to get a land from his top, but was forced to sac the petal to avpid Daze. That meant he had no mana in his pool. The coverage shows the rest, he didn't get any Petal or Mox and lost to his own Nauseam with 19 lands. It's lovely to see how that Daze gave him the game. That was pretty sick, the few people who still remained there burst in cries of surprise. I think it was quite an exciting ending for the biggest GP ever seen.Quote:
Off to the final game of the final match: Do Anh started with Sensei’s Divining Top on turn one, Müller had Careful Study, discarding Iona and a land. Do Anh used Top in his upkeep, played a fetchland and passed the turn. Likewise in his upkeep, Müller cast Mystical Tutor, getting Thoughtseize. He cast it and once again Do Anh responded with Mystical Tutor putting Ad Nauseam on top of his library.
When the Thoughtseize resolved, Müller didn’t seem happy at all to see the following line-up: Lion’s Eye Diamond, Lion’s Eye Diamond, Lotus Petal, and Infernal Tutor. No matter what he took, Do Anh would still be able to go off! To not make it too easy for him, one Diamond had to go.
In his upkeep Do Anh rearranged the top three cards of his library, so he wouldn’t draw Ad Nauseam just yet. Instead he laid a third land, cast Lotus Petal and Lion’s Eye Diamond, sacrificing the latter, before using Sensei’s Divining Top to get Ad Nauseam.
Daze from Müller meant he had to sacrifice Lotus Petal too, and start the combo without any mana in his pool. But with 19 life left to spend, that surely wasn’t going to be a problem, was it?
The metagame was awesome as there wasn't anything really dominant. Zoo was the deak to beat, making CB deck lean towards Bantish builds, so european combo experts AND Tomoharu Saito realy had the chance. Mad props to everyone. I also have to mention Rafa Riego, a 16-year old kid I was playing with on Thursday and Friday, who was playing Ugr Faeries running Jace, the Mindsculptor, beating LSV and ending in 9th position tied in points with the eighth player with only a 2% difference in tiebreakers. Mad props to him too.
It was a blast of a weekend!
EDIT: I almost forgot! We finally tapped the final with an iPhone (looks nice). It was funny hows it run out of battery just as So Anh resolved Nauseam. We said, it doesn't matter, he just wins from here...
Maybe I should not have traded Saito 4 of my LEDs. Looks like they could go up some with 2/8 decks being ANT.
I was hoping a survival deck would t8. Any configuration. Hopefully there will be some game feeds popping up but I doubt it.

Even though I didn't go that well, it was a blast. Nice to have met Godryk and spiritofthewretch. Very happy Sven Dijt ended up in the top8. He's a local here who has his own card shop (he forgot to print '.com' on his t-shirt after the manamaze thing, you should check it out: www.manamaze.com). We tested a bit with him, so it's good to see him do well. All-in-all the Dutchies did pretty well (5 out of 55 ended up top64, 17 people made it to day 2), so it was a good weekend for us, nice to seem some extra rating entering our pool.
I played the same deck as my teammate who ended up 40th. I may post a short primer on it. It's something called Red Rock.

He still had 2 lands and a Top on the board, one of which an uncracked fetch to pay for Top activation with.
Any card taken would still give him the win. By playing MT and not being able to IT anymore (as to not shuffle AN away), he essentially discard 2 cards: LED and IT. I guess he should just have let the discard resolve and win with whatever was left. By not casting mystical, he would have ANed out with at least 2 spare mana through Daze with either Tutor, an thus, likely won.
Anyways, as mentioned above, I believe the result helped prevent/hinder the "Ban LED" cries, and I like it.
I will be willing to read it, because i think we won't be seeing day 2 decklists from wizards...anyways, it will always be better to hear from red rock from someone who actually played it.Quote:

Three of my first four matches at the tournament were reanimator decks. I lost to two of them and beat the third. They were considerably faster than the decklists I playtested against. First turn Dark Ritual + entomb + exhume Iona is nuts, and I lost twice to entomb in response to chalice at one followed by exhume next turn. Despite those crappy pairings, I somehow was able to end with a pretty decent 4-2 score before getting mana-screwed twice against a merfolk deck that ruined my chances to make day two.
The other decks I faced where zoo, pikula, and ant, which I totally slaughtered. All my opponents were really nice and some of them told me I should have played a GPT with that deck because I would have won 3 byes.
Highlights of the Grand Prix:

- The same player taking 10 damage from Progenitus after an Honorable Passage.
- The Zoo player siding out Path to Exile because he thought I was playing some kind of control deck.
- Mark Poole drawing a Pacman on Akron Legionnaire.
- One of my friends losing to turbo-fog.
- Nice players and incredible participation.
The bad parts:
- No lunch break.
- The delay.
- Taking thoughtseize and faerie macabre off my sideboard because I thought I wouldn't need them.
- The horrible misplays on the finals.
