Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
I'll be playing in an event that should have over 60 players. Should be a full powered (most non budget decks) and very diverse (prob not much belcher/tes type decks)
Stuff like: Rug, Maverick, Sneak n Show, Nic Fit, Aggro Loam, Dredge, Esper Control, Reanimator, Elves, Bug and Goblins/Merfolk Should all be out in numbers.
What deck would you bring to this event ( I can make everything except RUG (no goyf) and high tide (no candles).

I have played in the past and have the cards to build:
- RUG Delver
- NO Pro Bant
- Maverick (several varieties)
- BUG Control
- Mono-U Control
I want to play a Punishing Aggro Loam, which seems like it will work in this meta (running 4x Chalice), but my records online are about 50/50 (seems like a deck that needs to run hot to work well, but when it works IT WORKS). I appreciate your input folks!
If you CAN, you should build a Goblin deck designed to beat other Goblin decks, as it seems like if you can make the mirror better than 50/50 you'd be poised to roll everything except Enchantress in that metagame.
Of your listed choices, though, I'd eye a well metagamed BUG control or Forked Bolt-packed RUG Delver.

The answer is usually "Whatever you are most familiar with / play best." But Zombardment seems pretty solid there, as does Goblins. Belcher's also a decent option if the decks you listed are fairly evenly split.

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Thanks for the suggestions Tacosnape. I have been experimenting with a BUG Pernicious "Creatureless" Control to get the hang of it. It's super slow for my tastes (I like action), but I can see where it's strong against my meta.

Just play it faster,

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Hi,
Lurking here for a while, decided to finally post.
What would you play against meta containing:
Omniscience Combo
Nic Fit
Dredge
UWb Miracles
RUG Delver
MUD?
The best player around will be playing either Miracles or Nic Fit, so having something with a good matchup against those decks would be very important.

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
I recently started playing Magic again after a 14 year hiatus and have entered Legacy via The Gate and Modern via Jund. Since I sold off my collection back in the day, the only real staples I own are the ones in those decks (Bob, Wasteland, Goyf etc). I haven't played enough to know my local meta by heart but among the DTB:s I've so far encountered Maverick, Miracle Control, Blade Control and Goblins, with Maverick being the most popular.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a good deck that could be built using at least some of the staples I own as a starting point? If possible, I'd like to keep the deck in two colors so that I don't have to buy more than one playset of ABU duals to begin with.
One deck that caught my eye is BW Stoneblade over at MTGS http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=342919 (sorry, I wasn't able to find a BW Stoneblade thread over here). Would that be a good option or is it far behind the current DTB:s?
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Check the Deathguy Ale thread in Established, that is the BW Stoneblade thread here.
I believe it isn't a bad choice to start with, it isn't T1 ofcourse, but it's not a bad deck at all.
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
The Junk list that top8ed at GP Ghent seems like an excellent choice.

Ah, I was under the impression that Deadguy Ale is slightly different from BW Stoneblade but perhaps that's more of an opinion. Thanks!

Good alternative indeed!
Btw, which Established decks are usually considered as the best ones despite not belonging to the DTBs? I'd like to pick a deck that's reasonably competitive with hopefully some lasting power within the foreseable future.

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
the metagame i play in is a local card store with a bunch of really good players. usually has between two maverick decks, a quadlaser dredge, a reanimator, rug delver, burn, one guy who always brings his high tide deck, and a couple of guys who play u/w stone miracles or straight up stoneblade. the current deck i've been playing their is a basic LED dredge list, i know i normally shouldnt play wiht it at a local meta but i do it mostly to gain experience playing the deck against good competition. for this type of setting im tempted to try out going to manaless against the vast number of guys playing blue counters or possibly switching to my aggro affinity build as artifact hate is NONEXISTENT. any thoughts ?

I want to play a deck that has:
Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
Lodestone Golem
In it. Thoughts?

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Hey Everyone, longtime lurker, first time poster!
I'm going to an annual legacy tournament in November. There's been a fairly large prize pool for a couple years in a row ($700 to 1st down to $100 for 8th). However, it's a largely unknown meta for me.
A few things I do know:
- This is not a very affluent area of the country. I expect card availability to be an issue for many of the players.
- There was a StarCityGames Open a month ago in a more major city (three hours away). At the Open, I noticed a lot of players on some older lists that seemed like pet decks or budget decks - an un-updated Esper Stoneblade list, High Tide, Affinity, Merfolk, Goblins, Elves. This is a small sample size and not necessarily indicative of what I'll see in this smaller town.
- I expect the turnout to be comprised largely of locals in the area. This is not a destination location.
- Otherwise, I know very little about the expected meta.
EDIT: After some more sleuthing, seems like combo decks of all types will be represented more highly than usual. Hope that will shed more light!
So what say you, sourcers? I appeal to your knowledge! A largely unknown meta, with just a few pieces of information to help. I have or can acquire most of the cards to build any deck, with the exception of probably Show and Tell and Candelabra Tide.
My initial thought is to go for Stoneblade with Terminus MB and Supreme Verdict SB. I want to play RUG but there's no guarantee that there will be enough duals/fetches to Stifle and Wasteland. Thoughts? Would be open to multiple suggestions.
Thanks in advance for your kind help!

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
I have burn, but I find it lacking sometimes in my meta.
So, I would like an advice concerning my metagame.
These decks are represented:
1. Uw Control
2. Ad nauseam combo
3. UG aggro
4. Miracle
5. Omniscience
6. Maverick
7. High Tide
And some more, on big events everything is represented.
I want something preferrably cheap, I have burn and it is good, but I want to have another deck.
I have looked into dredge, it is good, but are there more options?
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Voley,
A little bit of more information is needed to give you a good answer. What types of cards do you already have? (Force of Will? Any Duals? Fetches?) This will help us figure out if you might have cards to deal with an existing deck already that might work well in your meta.
As for burn, in that meta if you play a sideboard focused on anti-blue and anti-combo, you should do well vs. most of that field (since aggro seems underrepresented.) I'd run your Sideboard with a lot of Red Elemental Blasts and Leyline of Sanctity.
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
I'm in Los angeles, so the meta is pretty diverse.
I can play dredge, bant stoneblade, UR delver, or bant green sun zenith style
which one do you think i should play. Unfortunately, i sold my goyfs, so otherwise i would have played rug.
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Im a big fan of UR Delver. Tryit out!

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Hi there. I'm pretty new to legacy, and just started going to my local shop with a good ole fashioned burn deck a few weeks ago. It seems like everybody there is either playing goblins or countertop miracles. Got any recommendations for what I should build next? Given a choice between the two, I'm much more stumped on the CBtop match-up. It doesn't seem to have a bad match-up as far as I can tell. Lets pretend that money is no object...whats CBtop's black beast?

BG Abrupt Decay decks are starting to knock the CBtoplock decks out of contention.
If this deck is giving you trouble with Burn, I would suggest to look at picking up Vexing Shusher.

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Sulfuric Vortex is insane against most slow and grindy control decks, especially UW Miracles.
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Most definitly, sulfuric vortex as well as smash to smithereens-ing their stoneforged batterskulls has been pretty clutch. Ill admit I am still making play errors, walking into daze or getting my fetches stifled...its just a frustrating matchup, and I would love to bring something tailor made to hose it.
For example, last week I was in topdeck mode and drew a fireblast when my opponent had an active counterbalance+top and 4 life. Sweet! Except he spins a brainstorm into his hand, then brainstorms a terminus from his hand to the top of his deck for the CB trigger. I was very surprised CB would hit my 6cc cards.
BG with abrupt decay..... I saw a BG pox thread, or maybe BUG landstill or Aggro Loam? I'm sorry if this seems dense, but I'm not sure where to begin the research process.
Its not so much that I'm having a terrible time with burn, its more that I feel ready for a new deck. I was planning on making a storm deck, but with all the countertop I don't think that's such a good idea. The primer Miracle control is the only list I see with countertop. Its in DTB and suggests that Goblins and Ichorid are its worst matchups. I don't really want to join in the stores mob mentality of running goblins, and the way the one guy that runs dredge grumbles about the matchup it doesn't seem promising.
It also feels weird to me for a supposedly well tuned control deck to not be able to deal with aggro. Results are results I guess.
So goblins, something BG with abrupt decay, maybe dredge?
I'll see what I can find playing abrupt decay. Thanks for the tips.

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
I currently have two decent Legacy decks, RUG Delver and Turbo Eldrazi, and I'm looking to build something else for variety.
I play at a fairly small store, so 8 to 16 players is normal for our monthly Legacy tourneys. There is wide variety of decks, with at most two of any one deck. So far I've seen:
Elves
Sneak & Show
High Tide
Hive Mind
Storm (not sure which variety)
Stoneblade
Miracles
BUG (Jace, Bobs, etc.)
Pox
Goblins
Infect
Dredge
Zombies deck with Gravecrawler/Carrion Feeder
several rogue decks
Sometimes I'm tempted to take my Candelabras from Turbo Eldrazi and play High Tide, but I'm afraid that I'd bore myself and my opponents. I'm more seriously thinking of building some variant of Nic Fit or a MUD deck. Is there something else that I should look at instead?

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
I have nearly all of the cards needed to make U/W Miracle control (no Volcanics, sold them recently to make Modern decks) and Esper Blade Control.
Which deck is better in a blind meta?
Which has a lower skill level?
Which is better in multi-player games like Two-headed giant and free-for-all?
Which is more fun (in your opinion)?
-

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
I'm going to a Legacy 2k in a month and I have a good idea of what decks I'll see in multiples. Could really use your help picking a deck!
I expect to see primarily combo and secondarily aggro. There will be a lot of budget decks. In order of frequency:
- Reanimator
- Dredge
- Affinity
- Burn
- Storm
- Goblins
I know that I could play against Blouses, Elves, and High Tide as well. Any suggestions on what to play? I can build just about anything. Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Depending on how much impact it already had on people's sideboard choices, I really like Omnishow in that meta. Reanimator is unfavorable but the rest are really ok-very good matchups.

Cool, thank you. Any other options besides Omnishow that you think would be reasonable? I'm going to set up a gauntlet with my playtest group and I'll definitely start with Omnishow. What else would you consider?
Or does anyone else have any suggestions for the meta I outlined?

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
I have the following metagame, and can build any non-combo blue based deck in the format, the more controlling the better (I enjoy control decks):
ANT 5 6,25%
Miracles 5 6,25%
Monored 5 6,25%
BUG Control 4 5,00%
Belcher 4 5,00%
RUG Delver 4 5,00%
Reanimator 4 5,00%
Jund 3 3,75%
Sneak and Show 3 3,75%
Nic Fit 3 3,75%
12-Post 3 3,75%
Stoneblade 3 3,75%
Affinity 3 3,75%
Junk 3 3,75%
Channel Elfball 2 2,50%
BW Aggro 2 2,50%
Team America 2 2,50%
Dredge 2 2,50%
Food Chain 1 1,25%
BW Tokens 1 1,25%
UR Delver 1 1,25%
Infect 1 1,25%
Monobrown 1 1,25%
Dragon Stompy 1 1,25%
UW Old School 1 1,25%
Soldiers 1 1,25%
Goblins! 1 1,25%
Dragonstorm 1 1,25%
Hypergenesis 1 1,25%
Wildfire 1 1,25%
Zoo 1 1,25%

Rock 1 1,25%
High Tide 1 1,25%
BUG Aggro 1 1,25%
White Weenie 1 1,25%
Enchantress 1 1,25%
After doing the math (stupid forum won't let me paste a table), there's 30.00% combo decks, 17.50% Control decks, 20.00% aggro decks, 11.25% aggro-control decks, 10.00% Midrange decks, and 11.25% Ramp/Stax/miscellaneous decks.
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Of non-combo blue decks, I like being BUG control here. Probably something similiar to what BBD was playing a few months ago http://www.mtgdecks.net/decks/view/41624 Maybe with Zuran Orb in the SB to help against Burn, RUG, UR, and Zoo.
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
My meta consists mostly of RUG Delver, Show & Tell, Stoneblade (UWB+WB), Storm and some Jund, what would be a good deck against this?
I have UW Miracles (which I always get many draws with even if I try to play fast my oponents play slowly), Burn, RG Beats with no tarmogoyf and Monogreen Elves with one cradle and I could play UW Stoneblade too (just dont have Clique, Karakas, SoFF and Geist).
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
My meta is a tempo/combo meta, mostly RUG for the tempo part and Show and Tell variants for the combo portion (though there is a very skilled ANT player here too). You have some outliers like Jund and BUG, but blue control and tribal is mostly absent. I'm pretty much able to build anything.
Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks!
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
@ kirdie: Miracles should be good there, although you didn't mention which version. Rest in Peace makes the RUG matchup easier. Jund is probably the toughest matchup. I probably would run Enlightened Tutor and Humility for the Show and Tell decks.
@ Philipp2293: Do you have experience with Pox? It's never going to be a Tier 1 deck, but I like it against those decks. I think a BUG tempo deck with Delver and Tombstalker would also be solid.

Why not play the jund deck again you played last time? Very good edge versus RUG. If you really expect some show&tell combo, maybe dedicade some of the sideboard discard slots to specific show&tell like hate against top-decks (oblivion ring).

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
MUD and Combo infested meta. 1-2 Stoneblade. I've been playing Tin Fins to success (V little gyard hate), but curious if anyone has thoughts as to what else I might play.
I can build anything (with the exception of Candelabras).
-
Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
BUG? You get Abrupt Deck to break all of MUDs things and Force of Will + Discard to stop combo

On further thinking, part of my success with Tin Fins has been the complete lack of gyard hate. Might rock Dredge

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
In an unprepared meta, dredge is king.

Re: What Should I Play In My Metagame?
Hey, I'm interested in playing lab man doomsday ( I have most of the cards). But is it still a viable deck in legacy? I have no idea what's in my meta game.
