Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
when you play your deck, do you miss SFM? When your answer is yes, add 1, when your answer is no, 2 is good ;)
@Moon Dark
I wouldn't play more SFM than equips, add a SoFaI, cause it sucks to draw a SFM, knowing that there is nothing left to fetch with him + your dudes NEED equips, they are all so little ;)
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Youre right Leto - 2 SFM is fine at all - but im still looking for a better option for the Space of Mother of Runes - but I cant find any... is there any?^^ And im playing 2 Jittes because in my Meta EVERYONE plays Jitte, so i can get a second one once the first got destroyed due legendary rule etc :)
And i really gotta say: I like dark ritual - idk why so few ppl play it nowadays :/
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
cause it sucks if you draw it later in the game instead of Removals/Critter/Equip...
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I did some modifications to the list:
Artifacts:
4 Ęther Vial
1 Umezawa's Jitte
1 Sword of Feast and Famine
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
Creatures:
4 Gatekeeper of Malakir
4 Stoneforge Mystic
4 Dark Confidant
4 Stoneforge Mystic
4 Phyrexian Revoker
4 Tidehollow Sculler
Spells:
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
4 Thoughtseize
4 Swords to Plowshares
Lands
1 Plains
4 Swamp
4 Scrubland
4 Polluted Delta
4 Marsh Flats
4 Wasteland
Sideboard
4 Mindbreak Trap
4 Ethersworn Canonist
4 Tormod's Crypt
2 Perish
1 Engineered Plague
Some comments:
a) Removed the Hawks, needed more aggression / disruption, that came in the way of Phyrexian Revoker, I can say this guy is amazing. You can even shut down LED vs combo, and tendrils can't use their black tutors without an empty hand, so it can give you that extra turn.
b) Added SoFaI, it's very good. Gives you more more aggression while augmenting your card advantage and even board control if played on time.
I'm not sure about Gatekeeper, I think it's zero synergy with Vial is not helping at all. I've been tempted to test Serra Avenger, because at least it's more aggressive and it's a flier.
Some suggestions are very welcome.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
@Moondark: You need Serra Avenger. Without her you're just playing shitty creatures without evasion and you're going to gt run over on the ground every time.
Your sideboard needs help. I don't know how much combo is in your meta but Mindbreak Trap generally sucks ass against anything other than Belcher. Canonist is a must but 4 is too many. Play Enlightened Tutor as well as Chalice of the Void.
It seems to me like Merfolk is going to rape your face and eat your babies. What's your plan against them other than going to Long John Silvers post tournament?
4 Stoneforge is way too many. I like 2, 3 is pushing it.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Leto, dark ritual isnt bad - just try it once - ill give you some examples of lategame draws...
1) i play sfm and search for SoLaS play dark ritual and cast this sword + equip it + wouldnt be possible without the ritual
2) you remove something on the other side of the board with vindicate and got 1 mana left - you play ritual and gatekeeper and bam....
just try it....
and even if you dont like it...what would you play in its spot?
Greetings
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Saw a game from SCG open legacy today of a white black deck. He ran rituals with 4 bob, 3-4 stoneforge, couple of gatekeepers, sofaf, sofai, jitte and Batterskull and mirran crusaders. That approach does as well look interesting. Commentators said he ran Obliterators as well.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
We could really use batterskull, loving the idea so far.
I upgraded my list and removed the gatekeepers to add +4 serra avenger, seems more solid now. Still need to figure out my SB though, but in MTGO Merfolk is not very common these days.
as for 4x SFM I could go -1, but with batterskull I don't think it's a good call
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
If running batterskull i would run 4 stoneforges. Just for more opportunity to forge the skull into play. Mean just imaing geting a nut draw with t2 stoneforge, t3 batterskull forged into play t4 forged sofai equip to batterskull against goblins or merfolks :P
His Version: http://www.starcitygames.com/magic/l...b_Durward.html
Joe Bernel, played an other interesting version with chrom moxes, Bitterblossom, mirran crusaders, batterskull, bob, stoneforge with others. With a singel godless shrine in his mana base.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Quick thought for Vial lists: Spellskite. It works with Vial at 2, has a big butt to block with , and could be used for some pretty nifty combat tricks, like protecting an attacker from swords/path/bolt or redirecting a Belcher activation or something.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Spellskite is definitely an interesting thought. Doesn't really apply any pressure and is probably bad in most situations. I won't find out for a while though because...
Phyrexian Obliterator is my favorite creature ever and I'll be picking up a list close to Caleb Durwards. I've been playing way too much standard lately getting ready for the invitational and thanks to Cock Blade Obliterator isn't a good maindeck card. I'll definitely be playing him in Legacy though! It's a much more aggro deck but I like the looks of it a lot. I'm not sure about his board though, like what the fuck do you bring Batterskull in against? I need to find some Bitterblossoms now though.
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I've liked this deck for awhile, though other decks always had me wanting to play them more, but due to the price of duals, goyfs, and forces, this deck is even more appealing. With two in the top eight of the SCG 5K it has proven that it is good and this is the list im liking.
Creatures
4 Dark Confidant
4 Stoneforge Mystic
3 Gatekeeper of Malakir
2 Mirran Crusader
Artifacts
2 Chrome Mox
2 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Umezawa's Jitte
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
Spells
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Thoughtseize
4 Vindicate
3 Bitterblossom
3 Cabal Therapy
Lands
4 Marsh Flats
4 Scrubland
3 Verdant Catacombs
3 Wasteland
2 Swamp
1 Godless Shrine
1 Plains
Sideboard
3 Extirpate
2 Perish
2 Phyrexian Revoker
2 Shriekmaw
2 Tidehollow Sculler
2 Tormod's Crypt
1 Batterskull
1 Sword of Feast and Famine
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
And what are you gonna kick out for spellskite? I cant think of any suitable card to be honest.
What i was gonna ask.... ever thought of playing Phyrexian Unlife?
It can be kinda useful - testing it atm( cause my list, im getting so much stronger as longer the game lasts - so i got accelerators like dark ritual but vs some aggros im still to slow and there 10 extra life could be useful - but im not sure - once youre at 0 hp, does the effect of confidant give you poison counters?
Greetings

Phyrexian Unlife says damage dealt to you, Bob causes loss of life. To me its sorta meh. Sorta reminds of the artifact... back in Urza, when you take damage just mill that many cards instead.
To me the card says Combo, like Transcendence, it needs a deck dedicated to it imo.
The card I'm trying to test atm is Cataclysm. I'm building a Deadguy deck tossing in Flagstones, couple artifact lands, and creatures like Bob, Stoneforge Mystic, with Bitterblossom for my Enchantment. The list I threw together looks pretty tight, just short some cards before I can build.. and Vindicate went way up in price :/
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I saw all the Deadguy matches that where broadcasted by Star City Games.
Some thoughts:
1) The list that Joe Bernal ran had too few lands IMHO... 18 + 3 chrome moxes ? I saw the guy loose a game by mulligan to 3, I constantly felt that he was having a hardtime with the manabase.
2) Mirran Crusader is INSANE against Team America, still not sure about main-decking the guy WW is not trivial in a meta full of wasteland, I'm trying it maindeck for a while though.
3) I'll keep 4 SFM + 2 Jitte + Batterskull + SoFaI ( 2 jittes to remove a possible opponent jitte)
4) Hymn to Tourach is excellent, you need to be running this card IMHO. I'm back to 10 discard 4 Hymn 4 Thoughtseize 2 Kozilek.
5) I'll keep testing the Vials ( I've also tried chrome mox ), I like Vial more, helps against merfolk quite a bit and I feel is not such a bad top deck as a chrome mox is.

For what matchups Scullers, Shriekmaws and Batterskull are needed?
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
Nah honestly phyrexian unlife protects you from stormcombo and you can use bob even when youre low on life in the lategame - im still testing and first experiences are good to be honest
+ I dont run neither chrome mox nor vial
Re: [Deck] Deadguy Ale (B/w Confidant)
I will test this SCG-list posted yestersay. Thx Riszo.
I will show you my results and post it later.
But this single Top isnt my friend. I dont like Top!
It's for me, just for me. A bad card.
My 2 cents

I will.

I fixed that, to make it more poetic ^^
I agree, why run top when we can just needle it so nobody gets to use it!

Scullers are for combo. It gives you more discard as well as a little pressure.
I'm guessing Batterskull is for Merfolk. It seems like it could be ok there since it has lifelink and is a body. Taking 5 when revealing it to Bob, yes I know it's a slim chance, is bad but the lifelink may make up for it.
I have no clue why you would play Shriekmaw. It's sorcery speed removal that doesn't kill black/artifact creatures, hits you for 5, and will almost never have a body. I'd rather play Gor for the Throat if I need extra removal.
My initial thought is that the one Top should be another land, but I'll have to play it some first.
