Dead Guy Ale looks pretty good. You have discard to disrupt slower combos like Reanimator and Life, multi-color removal to deal with Iona, and land destruction against the other decks. I don't think Dead Guy's Zoo matchup is that hot but its certainly not unwinnable.
What's best to play in a meta full of aggro (with many zoo, some goblins and some merfolk), some reanimator and nausea and a few countertop?
ANT? I'm not the most well informed guy on the boards but ANT seems like a beast in that meta.
A combo deck would be the right call imo but if you cant build it for some reasons, I would go with New Horizon : it is better than thresh and has the needed weapons to deal with any other decks you mentioned (White stax, Dragon Stompy, Zoo, Reanimator, Life, NO-Bant, Tempo Thresh, Merfolk). Dredge could also be considered as a "rogue deck", depending from your opponent usual sb.
It seems that UW Tempo and Merfolk (with the white splash) have a lot of similar matchups. When would you play one over the other?
If I had to guess, Merfolk has a better matchup against Counterbalance, Reanimator, and possibly ANT. UW Tempo has a better matchup against Zoo, Goblins, and Merfolk? Can anyone with experience with both archetypes chime in?
The most played decks in my current meta are Reanimator and Countertop, with also good to high chances to meet UW Tempo, Belcher, Dream Halls and ANT. There is little to no Zoo, Goblins, Aggro Loam. Any suggestions? I can build most decks with my pool, so I'm open to any suggestions.
My meta is inexistant, ( as I expect 12 player sunday)
IT should be 2 gobs , 1 dredge, 1 zoo, 1 cb top NO, 1 landstill, 1 rock, 1 stax gueddon 1 or 2 loam .
I own monored gob, ichorid, pox, MUC, affinity, 3 dual poor man's manabase oldschool thresh w.
Last time the gobs took 1st & 2nd ( and christophe , who had won , top8 bom3 the week after with his gobs ) .
What do you think is the best game for this meta ( exept maybe ant which I don't own yet)
Thank you guys
EDIT : now it's sunday morning, and a few call yesterday had me expecting 3 gobs in the 12 players already inscripted. So I choose MUC , permanent version with propaganda main . pox also have a good gob mach-up but I'm scared of loam players with it.
Re edit : total loose, round 1 hardfucking cast emrackul ( twice ) round 2 show and progenitus, creature controle sucks hard , round 3 evagreen, loose , drop play some cubedraft.
I would have been better with pox.
What would you guys recommend for a tournament like this:
Expected amount of players: 30
Meta expectation, based on previous tournaments:
- CB-top (mostly ProBant): 6-8 players
- Goblins (5-7 players)
- Zoo (3-5 players)
- ANT (4-6 players)
- Other combo (reanimator/dream halls/emrakul cheaters): 4
- Dredge: 0-3
- Faeries UBr: 2-3
- Merfolk: 0-3, see infra
- Rock: 2-3 players
- Stax: 2-3 players
Some random
Other info: Loam and Survival are notably absent. Merfolk is somewhat on the rise around here, but I have no idea if this trend will be continued for this tournament, since a lot of Zoo/Goblins-players tend to show at at this particular venue (and people know this). At most 1 lands player. I own the cards to build most decks, except for Dredge or Lands. Aside from that, I should be able to build/borrow anything, although I'd rather not play Merfolk or Goblins since that would require me to borrow a complete deck.
So, does anyone know some sick brew which could handle this meta?
Thx,
Tom
So, any ideas for a CB-Bant/Goblins+Zoo/Combo meta? Would Belcher be a good choice?
Grtz
@ plm : I would go with UG pox if you own it. Maybe not the optimal choice but a nice call with the meta & your decks imo.
@ Nives : I would go with a dreadstill splashed G (tarmo/krosan) or a traditionnal New Horrizon build. Regarding your second post, I'll then go with Reanimator (Iona/sphynx/archon)
only my opinion though
@Menace: The tournament is tomorrow (well, technically today if you consider my time zone...) and the only additional deck (besides my usual choices, which are ANT/Quinn/Custom built fae) I actually managed to test was the Baneslayer control built from BoM...which I concluded to be a _very_ bad choice in a meta which is bound to have a significant aggro presence (Zoo/Gobs). I extrapolated that knowledge to rule out landstill, although I must admit that my first hunch was some sort of 3-color landstill-built too. I'll admit, though, that I'm I'm too A) Drunk*; B) Tired; C) Drunk*; D) Lazy to create some sick control build myself. However, even traditional landstill builds have difficulty beating Goblins (Zoo is less of an issue), so that in conjunction with a lack of experience with the deck in general has me rule out that option entirly...at least for now.
@LOurs: Although New Horizons is a deck I like a lot, I'm not impressed enough to play it kold in an dverse meta like the one I'm expecting. In testing (10-game sample), I was bothered with the same weakness I found in the old aggro-bant lists: no way to get back on cards after you've spent your hand FoW'ing an opponent's treat and losing your own critter. So, at least until I've been able to improve my game with New Horizons so that I'm not playing topdeck-mode 50% of the time, I'll let it aside (I'll admit that I'm not that good of an aggro-control player, although I'm trying hard to work on that and I'm getting better at it every week).
Considering Reanimator and Dreadstill: I don't own Entombs (=no reanimating for me) nor dreadnoughts, although I could find the latter. I recently built a Ugr Dreadstill list myself, would you mind posting a sample list of your own in those colors in the appropriate thread? It would be a real help since I'd like to explore the archtype myself, but I didn't get to real testing due to exams. A 3-color reference list would be really helpfull for me as a starting point for any future developments.
All in all , thanks for the advice, sad thing that it's a bit late for me to actually move on with it. If you'd like, I'll inform you guys with my final deckchoice (I'll bring Quinn/ANT/UBg Fae to the tourney and decide last minute, with a bias towards Fae since the deck needs testing data) and corresponding results.
Grtz,
Tom

So, for those who care, an update on how my tournament went. In the end, my metagame-prediction whiffed terribly. 25 players showed up. Only 1 goblins-player, not a single Zoo player, no merfolks at all. So much for aggro. Most prevalent decks were bant (5-ish players, some with countertop, some with survival), tempotresh (3-4 players although some we rather innovative, cutting mongeese for better late gama threats), white staxx (3, yes, really) and emrakul-cheaters (1 sheldock, 1 eureka, 1 gamekeeper). I decided to play UBg Faeries and piloted the deck to a quarter-final finish. Track record:
R1: Win 2-1 vs White Stax
R2: Draw 1-1-1 vs ProBant w/ Counterbalance
R3: Win 2-1 vs JaceTresh
R4: Win 2-1 vs MuD/affinity-concoction with ravagers, lodestones, juggernaut, some spheres,...
R5: ID against Lands
QF: Loose 1-2 vs Bant Survival.
Well, good thing I didn't bring Belcher I guess :).
Grtz
Heh, Yeah Belcher would have been pretty bad in your MUs. Baneslayer Control might have had a better chance there, considering you missed every deck you mentioned.
hi! I've been playing in my town with different decks but I haven't been very lucky with them, I think the metagame is the answer to my problem, it's like this (this is from the last tournament I've been in)
Dark Depths 6
Dredge 5
Goblins 7
Survival 8
Elves 4
Zoo 15
I'm opened to different options, what do you think is the best in this situation: combo, control or aggro, and if it's possible, what deck would you build?
thank you!
