God I feel this build so much random... I don't know...
Everytime I tested it I felt raped on almost everygame. Maybe it was some bad games, no luck & all. But overall I feel that my wins are way much "consistent" with SDT...
I like Defense Grid but Pyroblast & REB are kinda better against blue... You can't counter The Omni Mono Blue decks and you can kill Jace... But DG is better when you got Chalice in play...
You're friend with Jeff Hoogland? Ahah my bro plays his deck. He is a fan of 4 color loam but the MU is bad for him. Unlucky you didn't win imo...
SDT is good, but I'd rather just play more lock pieces and threats. I also don't like opening myself up to stifle when running the SDT and fetch package.
Agreed the loam matchup is more in our favor, but I just drew bad. In that game 2, I just need a land or 2 and he would've been just dead. He also had a lot of combo hate in his board. We both knew our lists and he knew what he needed to have a chance. He had it and I didn't. So goes magic sometimes.
I asked in an earlier post, does anyone have the deck on MTGO?
Re: Big Red (Mono-R Sneak Attack)
I see what you mean.
Maybe I should try this build again sometimes.
I don't have MTGO. I Playtest on Cockatrice only, sorry!
Re: Big Red (Mono-R Sneak Attack)
@Kid: Very well done! Glad you're finally having some success with the deck. Tough luck on the MUD matchup. I feel like it's usually in our favor, but like Davis says, Blightsteel kills...:-/
@Davis: Never give up, Never surrender! Glad you stuck with it for a decent finish in the open. Tough luck on the Loam matchup, we usually smash that, but if your opponent knows what you're on and just mulligans to what he needs, what're you gunna do? As for Blightsteel, I love the guy and don't have any problem with him, I just think worldspine is a slightly higher percentage with all the early x/2s out there. There's definitely something to be said about 9 blightsteel wins, but worldspine would have done the same for 8 of them (all 9 if your storm opponent couldn't go off that turn, 7 if you don't count the RWU Delver player having one more turn to draw bolt while you were at 3). I'll concede he's a little better with esper dying out, but I have no plans on giving up my wurms. And no MTGO here, I can't imagine this deck would be that expensive though.
Now that we've had some successes with AND without SDT, I'm confident we have a solid shell. I think i'm going to go out on a limb and run a version of whienot's white splash at my next big event. I've been thinking about it a lot lately and I see hope in a white OR black splash. This is a good enough 'stompy' brew to stand without SDT, but I really missed it last time I played. I think trading chalice for silence or a discard spell and keeping top is plausible. GP DC is quickly approaching and I'd love to see a Non Blue sneak attack list in the top 32. I think chalice is only absolutely necessary for the storm matchup. It helps in others, but they're winnable on the back of a blood moon too. It's time to see if silence is good enough to stop storm. I don't think it's going to be against good players, but if it does enough work on counerspells too, it might be worth it. We'll see. I'm running out of steam testing this deck outside a competitive environment so tournaments are where I'm getting most of my info from these days. Probably not the best testing strategy, but at least I won't be sick of mountains when november rolls around.

Has anyone tried Chandra Pyromaster? Looks pretty good in theory.

As much as I like Chandra, I don't think it fits the deck very well. Ideally if we have 4 mana to throw around we usually use it in a way to kill our opponent. Also, with her 0 ability we"re gonna be hard pressed to cast a lot of our spells that are exiled. It works in painter because it can kill problem creatures and be a source of card draw for a deck that can reliably cast all their spells.
Re: Big Red (Mono-R Sneak Attack)
Chandra Pyromaster doesn't work in this deck because how do you cast Worldspine Worm? Emrakul? Griselbrand? That's like almost 25% of the deck right there.
Re: Big Red (Mono-R Sneak Attack)
Why Chandra is good:
1. Sometimes Emrakul/Titan leaves opponent at 4/5 life. Someone has to seal the deal - ping ability helps
2. 0 ability is virtually draw a card. There is situation, when this is useless: you have sneak attack/breach in your hand and you need to draw fatty.
3. Ultimatum is useless. There's a little chance to triple cast Through the Breach, but it's not our plan.
@Koby, @ xdavisx - I agree with you, but I'll try to use Chandra during next tournament.
Re: Big Red (Mono-R Sneak Attack)
Right on. Take it for a spin and let us know the goods.
Re: Big Red (Mono-R Sneak Attack)
Would Blind Obedience have been a life-saver in any of the games you lost?
Re: Big Red (Mono-R Sneak Attack)
Hi all! I am currently thinking about building this deck to take a break from RUG Delver. My idea is to use a Dragon Stompy shell with Big Red enablers and big bodies. Here is the brew I am thinking about. Please let me know if this is a viable idea.
4 Ancient Tomb
4 City of Traitors
13 Mountain
4 Simian Spirt Guide
25 Mana Sources
4 Blood Moon
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Trinisphere
12 Lock Pieces
4 Sneak Attack
4 Through The Breach
2 Pyromancy
10 Enablers
4 Inferno Titan
4 Worldspine Wurm
3 Grizzlebrand
2 Emrakul, the aeons torn
13 Big Bodies
Sideboard: Have no idea
I understand this deck has no filter like other Big Red Decks with Top or Faithless Looting. The idea is to be very consistent every game with the plan being lock piece ---> enabler---->big body----->win.
Re: Big Red (Mono-R Sneak Attack)
@darkenslight: No, everything that killed me had summoning sickness anyways. It may have given me an extra turn due to gaining a life at some point but consistently expecting that one or two life points will buy a whole turn is unreasonable. The tapping part could help in the mirror but the extort part does very little. There are plenty of games where we never cast a creature.
@Lambert: Seems fine. You've essentially traded some speed for some lock Pieces. Instead of seething songing or spirit guiding on the first few turns to land a sneak effect, you're just casting low CC lock pieces and sitting behind them until you build up to the 5 land necessary. Same ends, different means.
@all: we're gonna have to figure out how to deal with swan song after next week :-/. A one mana hard counter on all of our enablers is rough!

"Lowest CMC" - so you put in a Titan/Magus. Most decks will try and jam their big hitters (Siege-gang, Mangara, Emmy/Griselbees).

This comes in against decks that do not run creatures. It allows you to have a "Show & Tell" effect against those decks. Typically heavy control or non-creature combo.

The old tech against landstill when that was a thing...they didn't run creatures so it read 1R: put progenitus into play or [insert fatty here]
Enjoyed watching this deck in action. Pretty sweet how close he was to turn 1'ing a few times.

yeah guys,
finally our Mountains lovely deck has a recognition for the a "pro" player and channel fireball website XD thats nice
i have been all the summer without playing magic but im back. Last weekend i played our legacy league tournament. I played 4 COV 4 blood moon main deck list, and the decks works quite better against tempo decks, but last weekend wasnt my weekend ..... :frown::frown::frown: i drew so bad all the day. Example: aginst WUR patriot i played a turn 2 blood moon...... resolved. he played 2 lavamancer and he won the game. i had the rest of the combo in hand excepting 2 manas, 6 turns later i was dead XD so sad
anyway im happy with the deck and im gonna continue playing and improving the deck with all of you like a great mono red familly XDXD
This is the list i played
4 sneak attack
4 trough the breach
1 pyromancy
4 seething song
4 goblin spirit guide
4 blood moon
1 lotus petal
2 chaos warp
4 emrakul
3 griselbrand
4 wordspine wurm
3 inferno titan
4 chalice of the void
9 mountains
4 ancient tomb
2 city of traitors
3 sand stone needle
side
4 trinisphere
4 macabre
2 pyroclasm
1 volcanic fallout
3 defense grid
1 WORD OF SEIZING XDXD Hdeck i didnt use it in all the day :frown::frown:
31 players 5 round
round 1 Rug delver lose 1-2
round 2 Rug delver win 2-1
round 3 BIG RED(new player in the league) lose 1-2 .i won the first and 2nd 3rd 5 turns for 1 mana descarting end turn wordespine to shuffle and drawing 3 times wordspine XD
round 4 elves win 2-0
round 5 patriot lose 1-2 win first. 2nd turn 2 blood moon and die 3rd turn one chalice and die XD
i think is necesary to play the deck with cristal ball or something coz it is so hard to play top decking
i ll test new things, talk to you soon
regards
JOY
Re: Big Red (Mono-R Sneak Attack)
some thoughts:
1. cards manipulation is really necessary? if yes what card? sensei, crystal ball, scroll rack?
2. colossus or worldspine? i vote for worldspine (yes, it gives 1 more turn to opponent combo deck but it's more efficient)
